The Only Hope For You Is Me
Chapter 9
*Gerard’s POV*
I was not going to give up. That was the only thing I could think about during the meeting. This boy was so fascinating to me and I knew it. I wasn’t going to deny it to myself. I was going to get to know this boy better, and if I liked him I was going to make him mine.
I tried to focus on what Marcus, the engineer, was saying and I managed to listen enough to be able to participate in the discussion afterwards. I mostly asked questions.
After about two hours, we were done for that day. The next day half of the group would fly to a water treatment plant and collect some pieces from machines. The other half including me and Marcus were going to continue working at the lake for all of the morning and half of the afternoon.
Since I had free time, I decided to take a walk to the barns, to look at the animals. The girls hadn’t wanted to go there the day before, because they didn’t want their smelly clothes to stink even more. Even though I didn’t really like animals, I figured that I had to look at them at least once.
I entered one barn and walked through the rows of cows, stroking some of them. There were several people busy feeding them. About ten minutes later I left and approached a smaller building from which I could hear the sound from lots of chickens.
When I entered, I noticed a small figure feeding the chickens, which were running around excited about the food. When he turned, I noticed that it was Frank. My heart made a little jump.
“Hi there, Frank!” I smiled at him.
“Hi”, he mumbled, looking down on his feet. This guy was so shy. What was I going to say now? But Frank took the decision away from me: “What are you doing?”, Frank asked. Wow, he really, actually asked me something? My courage came back.
“I’m just looking around the barns. I only had a meeting today, so I thought I might as well go exploring the base.”
“Oh, that’s nice”, Frank said. He turned away and continued to feed the chicken, but I was not going to let him go already.
“When will you be done?”
“In two hours, I guess.”
That was it, this was my chance! “Why don’t I pick you up in two hours and we hang out a little? You could tell me which comics you like. Maybe we like the same!” He had told me that he liked comics, when we sat in the dining hall together.
Frank looked up and scanned me.“I’m not sure whether...”
“Oh, come on, I’m not that awful!”, I cut him off.
“Well, okay, see you later then.”
I said goodbye and walked out of the barn. I was so excited. I was going to hang out with Frank!
