The only Hope

Hope’s pov:

I went back upstairs after I had caught them staring at me. No way I’m having breakfast with them, Frank is only making dirty jokes and the others are just… Awkward to be around now.

I walked back to Gerard’s room and I let myself fall onto the bed. I thought about last night. It was amazing. I felt so loved and cherished…

But I couldn’t promise Gerard that I would stay…

God, that even hurt me. I loved that man, but I’m putting them all in danger by just being here. Korse will be back and we know it. Anyway, maybe I’ll do some training today. I really have to get back into shape…

Suddenly Gerard entered the room and closed the door. “Hey, feeling awkward?”

I sat up. “Yeah, I’m afraid they’re going to be dicks about it…”

Gerard smiled. “They won’t, they were just a bit angry with me for doing… That… On duty.”

“I can understand that, I’m sorry…” I looked at my hands.

“It’s not your fault you know.” He sat on the bed and lifted my chin.

I smirked. “In some way… It kinda is. I mean, we were both there.”

“True, but still... I made the move in the first place.” He got up and threw some clothes at me. I laughed.

“Here, get dressed properly, we’re going to visit Dr. D. and you’re coming with us.” He smiled. God, his smile was gorgeous… I thought about last night again, how I felt him smile against my neck… How he kissed me, everything was just perfect. I smirked.

“Hope?”

“Huh, what?” I woke up from my thoughts.

“I said you can eat your breakfast in the car, we’re leaving ASAP.” He looked confused. “What were you thinking of?”

“N… Nothing.” I muttered.

He winked at me and left the room. My smile grew bigger. I finally got him out of that bad mood and with that… Also myself.

I got dressed and ran downstairs. I grabbed an apple and a piece of bread and looked outside. The car was already out of the barn and Mikey was waving at me from the passenger’s seat. I walked outside and closed the door.

“Lock it!” I heard Mikey yell from a distance and I saw a key in the lock.

I put my thumb in the air, singing at him, and locked the door. I brought the key with me and handed it to Mikey when I got to the car.

“Thanks, get in!”

I sat next to Frank. “Morning sunshine!” I rolled my eyes.

“Frank, you’ve already said that and if you’re gonna make innuendos I will throw you out of the window. I’m pretty sure it will fit.” I narrowed my eyes.

Frank started laughing. “Sorry, just wishing you a good morning.”

Ray, Mikey and Gerard, who was behind the wheel, looked at him. I guess we all knew Frank wasn’t just wishing me a good morning. He started smirking again as we took off.

I didn’t even know who this Dr. D. was so I decided to ask. “Who is Dr. D. by the way?”

Mikey turned to me and explained. “Dr. D. stands for Dr. Death Defying. He has his own sort of… Radio show, where he updates people on BLI’s progress.” Oh yeah, Gerard told me about him. “He lets us know where Dracs are patrolling, where Korse might be hiding and sometimes we even get missions to save people. This guy has eyes and ears all over the place.”

I thought for a moment. Were they in that building because of me? “So, was I your mission?” They all looked at each other.

“No, not exactly. Actually, not at all. We ran into you by accident.” Mikey turned around again. “We were there because Dr. D. had told us that Korse was hiding there.”

“Oh… But, if this guy has eyes and ears everywhere… Then how come I wasn’t…”

Ray interrupted me. “We’re not sure either, so we wanted to ask him.”

“Oh, okay.” I stared out of the car window. So, they really ran into me by accident… I felt a bit disappointed now, but my mood changed soon after. If it was really just a coincidence, it was a good one. Remember Hope, be grateful.

It took us two hours to get to this Dr. D. and we got out of the car. The sun was already burning on my skin. We were in front of this very tiny building. I mean, Frank could’ve been taller.

“Uhm Hope, could you wait out here for a second?” Gerard lifted his eyebrows.

“Okay, I guess?” I shrugged.

Gerard smiled. “We just need to talk to Dr. D. about something real quick, something confidential. When we’re done, we’ll call you inside.” I nodded and the guys went inside.

I wonder what was so confidential…
