The only Hope

Gerard’s pov:

She looked at me, waiting for an answer.

“We uhm… Injected some painkillers while you were sleeping.” I stood up.

“You drugged me in my sleep!?” Here we go…

“Yes, I know.” I rubbed my forehead. “But didn’t you feel better after that?”

“Yes I did, but… You just don’t do that! It could have been anything…” She calmed down a bit.

“No, we would never do that and you know it.” I pointed at her.

“You know I still don’t trust you fully.” She had a stern look on her face now.

“Well, then now the time has come to do so.” I walked to the door.

“Where are you going?” What? She didn’t want me to leave?

“I’m still on duty, you know.” It was true, I still had to be the lookout for another two hours.

She was silent.

“You just get some rest, okay?” I was about to walk out of the room.

“Wait.” She stood up.

“What?” I turned to her.

“I’ve already had enough sleep today… Why don’t you lie down for a bit?” Was she serious?

I laughed. “Sure sugar, and uhm… Who is protecting the diner then?”

“I will.” Oh, she was serious.

“Yeah, not gonna happen.” I shook my head.

“Why not? Because you don’t trust me? Well, then I think now the time has come to do so.”

Burn. She used my own words against me. I wasn’t able to speak for a second.

“Besides…” She walked over to me and dragged me into the room. “You look like shit.”

“Thanks…” I said sarcastically.

“If you’re not in shape, you cannot protect us.” She was right, though. But I was perfectly fine. A bit tired, but fine.

“Lie down.” She ordered.

“And what if I don’t?” My voice suddenly turned low. She walked up to me now.

“Then I’m going to tell Frank about the touching.” Fuck.

“No you’re not, besides… It’s your word against mine.” She pushed me on the bed. Why am I letting her do this to me anyway?

“We’ll see.” She climbed on top of me, pulling some blankets. Wait…

She lowered her face, which was right in front of me now.

I thought she was about to kiss me, when suddenly she spoke.

“Goodnight, Gerard.”

She got out under the blankets she had pulled up and walked out of the room, she closed the door.

“What the…” Okay, she had tricked me.

Fuck, how could I be so stupid?

But my god, the bed was comfortable… Her scent lingered on the blankets and her pillow. And just… the way she said my name earlier. It was the first time she ever said it to me.

I… Couldn’t get up anymore… Sleep took over my brain and body and before I knew it… I was gone.
