The Lost Girl

All's Well

Gerard's POV

I looked down at Em, ignoring the flash of the cameras going wild. I pulled the lady that called her name aside, along with Em where the paparazzi couldn't touch us. We ended up in a darkened room. I wrapped my arm protectively around Em; whatever the problem was, we'd figure it out. Surely.
'Meet my mother, Gerard. Mom, this is my boyfriend.' Her teeth ground together as she said the words, and I looked properly at this lady. Her eyes were sunken, and she was as skinny as a rake; her teeth were yellow under her foul fake smile.
'Emma, dear, why didn't you tell us where you'd been?' She reached out for Em's arm, but Emma pulled away.
'Because I'm happy now. And there's nothing you can do to stop this.'
'You're not even 17 yet, dear.' I heard the hiss in the witch's words. 'And I'm in a bit of trouble...financially...'
'How much?'
'Twenty K or I go to the cops, and lover boy's band will break down. How about that, princess?' Emma gulped. That was a hell of a lot of money. An idea began to form in my head.
'Em, I've just got to sort a few things out. Please come with me.' She gratefully took my hand.
'We'll get the money and Em will come and find you in a minute. Okay?' The beast in the room nodded.

The usual roar that filled me with adrenaline greeted me and my band mates as we walked onstage.
'How you all doin'?' I smiled. I got filled with confidence on a stage; it danced inside me like sparks.
'Now, I need ya to do me a favor. Could you not make a sound for a sec? Need to get rid of a big, bad wolf. How about we practice?' The hush that met me was eerie.
'Keep like that, for a sec?'
I whispered over the dead mic and the lights hid the silent audience. Emma and her oblivious mother walked onstage.
'So you've got it?'
'No. I'm happy with Gerard.' The evil woman had her back facing the audience.
'Oh really?' As the mother's hand made contact with her daughter's, the lights illuminated a thousand or more screaming people. I had never said any words so seductively, or enjoyed rolling the syllables around in my mouth.
'Security.'
It was amazing the effect one screaming woman being dragged away by burly guys and the grateful kiss could have on the audience. I held Emma, and knew that I'd found my one true love. As she walked offstage, a steady beep pulsed through the speakers.
This was The End - but the beginning.

Notes
