Chapter 6

"Here, you can use this one." I handed Michelle a Gibson SG guitar. It used to be my favourite guitar but ever since I bought my white Les Paul, I haven't really played on it that much. Her eyes widened and she smiled. I love seeing her like that. "Oh my god! I love it!" She exclaimed. I laughed and said: "Okay, before we start.. I feel like I have to tell you honestly, that if you want guitar lessons, maybe Ray knows more about musiv and he's really good too so, um I'd totally understand if you'd rather-" She interrupted me. "No, I want you to teach me." I smiled and handed her a guitar pick. "Well then let's start."

After 2 hours, I had taught Michelle how to read notes and showed her how to play a few basic chords. She was a quick learner, which made it fun to teach her. When she had played the last strum of a simple song with only 4 chords, she looked up at me with a happy face and asked: "So Mr. Iero, am I at least an 'okay' student?" "You're great! I think you're a natural." That made her face light up even more. God I have to stop focussing on her face so much. I gave her some last tips and then decided to stop the lessons for today.

I looked at the clock, 7:18 PM. "What time do you have to go home? Does your mom even know you're here?" I asked. Michelle just sat on my bed and looked at the ground, not answering me. "Did I say something wrong?" She shook her head. She seemed upset, but I didn't really know what to do, so I just sat down right next to her, staying silent. I didn't know what was on that girl's mind, but I knew she wanted to tell me something. I wasn't going to try to get it out of her though.

We just sat there for a couple minutes, not saying anything, until she looked up at me and started talking. "I don't wanna go home yet, Frank." Her voice sounded shaky and I saw that she was holding back tears. "Why? What's wrong, Michelle?" I wanted to hug her and make her feel better again, but I had to remind myself that we were just friends. At least, that's probably how she felt about it. "Look, you don't have to tell me. If you just want to stay here a little longer, then that's okay. If you want to tell me, I'll be glad to listen, but only if you want to." She thought about that for a few seconds but then said: "No, I want to tell you." And then she told me the whole story.

She told me about how her mom used to drink a lot after her dad had past away, and that since she got a new boyfriend, she had been doing the same as she did then. Maybe it has gotten even worse. I already felt really bad when she told me about how her mom treated her when she was drunk, but when she started telling me about her mom's horrible boyfriend, I felt myself getting really angry. I just couldn't believe that that jackass had the guts to treat her that way. Whenever Michelle told me about Jason touching her, I clenched my fists and looked away, trying to hide my anger.

Somewhere in the middle of her story, Michelle had started crying and by the time she had finished the story, she was loudly sobbing onto my shoulder and I had my arms wrapped around her thightly. "It'll all be okay babe." I surprised myself and probably her too by calling her 'babe', but I didn't even think about it before I said it, it just kinda felt right. It was kinda weird having her in my arms like that, because I had to keep reminding myself that she wasn't mine.
After a few minutes she had stopped crying and I wiped her tears away from her cheeks. She looked up to me and whispered a thank you. "I'm sorry about your shirt, Frank.." I looked down at my shirt and saw that it was all wet from her tears. "It's okay, I'm just glad you told me. How could you keep this to yourself? You know that I care about you, and want you to be okay right?" When she stayed silent I quickly added: "Just like Jaimy and Gerard do." She just gave me a last hug and stood up. "You're a great friend, Frank."

That's when my mom came in. She looked at Michelle and said: "Do you want to sta over for dinner, dear?" giving her a warm smile. She had probably heard Michelle's loud sobs and figured that it'd be a good idea to ask her that. So Michelle stayed over for a couple more hours. We didn't talk about her problems much anymore, but we just watched tv and laughed a lot together. I am not going to let Michelle feel like shit everyday, because of her mom and her shitty boyfriend. I have to take care of her.
