Picking up the Pieces
Consuming Questions
What I thought was going to be another feelings and body exposure fest in the saturated look of Gerard's drab-colored bedroom turned out to be something much different, a date. A real, expected, Mary and John style date.
While Gerard was driving, I was pretending to be asleep.
A dick move, I know, but gave me time to think, time to reflect. Time to reflect on what the hell had just happened.
If I recall, l had a moment. An embarrassing shower-centric moment. Then, I put on a dress I could never afford on my own and got into Gerard's car and showed up at Frank's house. It was very short and very awkward.
Now, I'm here, in Gerard's car, most likely going somewhere light and eclectic.
Gerard said to me, "Babe if you can hear me, we're going to that hipster restaurant downtown. The tacky one that serves their drinks in mason jars."
I purposely didn't say anything to him, I was to deep in thought.
Hipster restaurant. I'll order something with kale and a strawberry lemonade. Crisis averted.
Now back to Frank, why isn't he sporting the open robe and slippers look in some upstate mental hospital?
Where did the cops cart him off to after the bank thing?
Is he on house arrest? Did he avoid time completely?
The question was consuming, so consuming that I didn't notice that we pulled up at the restaurant.
"Sadie, are you awake?" Gerard asked delicately.
Gerard got out of the car and went round to the other side to wake me up.
Of course I woke up instantly, since I was never actually asleep.
I got out of the car, holding Gerard's hand.
Together, we walked inside.
