Dawning Midnight
Chapter 14
Gerard's POV:
Before anyone could even open their mouth to speak, there was a banging on the door.
Akina panicked and looked around. "Everyone get into the basement. There you can find your way outside." She opened the door to the basement.
"What is it?" I asked.
"No time for questions, just go!" She shooed us all into the basement and shut the door, just in time before the front door was opened forcefully.
I immediately got to my knees and ducked my head down, trying to giving myself vision of what was going on behind the closed door. But Akina was no longer in the kitchen.
"Where are they?" I heard an unfamiliar voice hiss from the living room. But it was a literal hiss-- which stunned me. Whatever it was, it wasn't human.
"They're gone now." Akina said with more confidence than I ever thought she would, considering the situation.
"No they aren't. I smell them."
Frank clung to my arm with fear, and I had to do everything I could to keep myself from trembling. I tried to identify what the creature was through scent, but it was nothing like anything I ever smelled before. And it smelled like it had no blood in it's body either.
"We need to get out of here" Ray mouthed to us, pointing to the door that would lead out of the house. I gulped and nodded. I got to my feet, helping an absolutely terrified Frank to his feet.
"Tell me where they are!" Came a snarl and a loud bang as some object smashed upstairs.
"You'll have to kill me first!" Akina spat.
"Very well."
Frank gave me a look of horror and I bit my lip nervously, thinking about going to help her. I reached for the door.
Suddenly there was a wolfish snarl, which was cut off short by screaming and yelping. I turned the knob of the door, when I was suddenly yanked back by Matt, who shook his head and mouthed, "No use".
The yelping suddenly stopped, and you could hear the thump of a limp body hitting the floor.
"Search the house. Tear it apart. Leave no area unchecked." Came the terrifying voice again, and Matt dragged me by the arm quickly. I was still staring in shock of what just happened when I was thrown out the door into Ray.
"Gerard we need to run." Ray's voice was urgent and he shoved me towards the car, right into the backseat. Frank hopped in next to me, seeming just as mortified.
Ray got in the front seat of the car, started it, and floored it before any of us could even think about putting on our seat belts.
"Ray slow the fuck down you're going to kill us all!" I finally exclaimed when the shock wore off.
"You don't understand what was after us." Ray snapped.
"No, I don't actually." I muttered.
"Exactly."
Matt was flipping through a book and paused. "It's something that should be dead and isn't. I can't figure out why it's after us though." I caught a glimpse of a frown on his face.
"Where are we going?" Frank asked suddenly, as if unconcerned about whats after us.
"I have no idea." Ray sighed. "Just somewhere...safe."
"I know where we can spend the night. My fathers." I bit my lip.
"Are you sure he's going to welcome us?" Matt turned around and looked at me.
"No, but who else is there?"
"True." Matt sat back in his seat. "Then your father's it is."
Franks POV:
The car was kind of crammed, as it was only a 5 person car, but instead we crammed 6 people inside. Bob and Mikey were jammed next to me, but no one really cared because, well, we were all kind of terrified for our lives at the moment.
My thoughts were very clouded, I hardly payed attention to what was being conversed. As everyone exchanged thoughts and theories, I lay on Gerard's shoulder and kept my eyes shut. I was thinking about how this was, in fact, all my fault.
Though I didn't say it, I felt that my father was somehow behind those strange creatures that killed Akina. I shivered as I remembered her screams and whimpers as the monster, whatever it was, claimed her life. God, this was all my fault.
I must've fallen asleep because I was suddenly shaken awake by Gerard.
"baby, c'mon, we're here."
I groaned and stretched. Everyone was out of the car, everyone except for Gerard and I. Gerard's lips met mine and thats all I needed to wake up. Electricity shot through my body and I kissed him back.
"C'mon lover boys!" Mikey groaned, and I realized everyone had been watching us. I blushed and Gerard giggled, taking me out of the car.
Gerard was extremely nervous, I could tell by his posture. He was slumped, as if trying to shrink, walking up the steps to the small white house with low confidence. He brought his knuckles to the wooden door of the house, knocking several times.
A muscular vampire appeared from the door. His eyes scanned us all in confusion, and when his eyes landed on me, I thought I glimpsed hate radiating from his eyes.
"Father, it's important. Please let us in. We'll explain." Gerard begged.
He hesitated for a moment before opening the door all the way and gesturing for us all to enter.
So we, or rather, Gerard, explained everything to him.
He sighed and rubbed his head. "I can't believe you all. You're all fucking enemies with one another. And yet, you're best friends."
"Its not like we knew!" Ray objected.
"I know. Alright, you guys can take refuge here."
"Dad, wait, why is Franks father after you?" Gerard asked.
He got up and shrugged nonchalantly before walking out.
Gerard groaned. "He knows. He's just not going to say."
Bob shrugged. "don't worry Gee, we will figure this out. We will fix this."
Those words seemed to trigger Gerard's emotions and he suddenly stood up, and I could tell he was on the verge of tears. "I'm gonna..go upstairs." He made his way up the staircase.
I jumped up and followed him into a bedroom, and I assumed it must have been his at one point. He looked around the room and let tears fall from his eyes. I could tell he was reminiscing.
I walked over and hugged him from behind.
"I never came here. Too many memories...of my childhood. Before my parents fought." He shivered.
"Why did they fight?" I whispered. "Why did they divorce?"
"I don't know. All I remember is one day my mom came in and said we were leaving. And just like that, she took me to a new house."
"You never asked about it?"
"They just said they got into a fight. They refused to give me anything other than that."
I brought my hand to Gerard's cheek and wiped his tears before kissing him passionately. When I pulled away, he just pulled me back.
He pressed me to the bed and kept kissing me. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed back until he finally pulled away. He laid on the bed and I laid next to him.
"Frankie...I'm so afraid. That we're going to be caught."
"Baby, don't worry. Everything is going to be okay. You'll see." I pushed a lock of hair from Gerard's eyes and smiled at him.
"I just want to live happy. I just want to live my life with you. Adopt a child... show them how great parents are." Gerard laughed a little.
"And we will baby. We will." I cuddled into him.
Shortly after, Gerard had fallen asleep. I got up to piss, and when I got back Gerard was awake and crying again.
"Oh baby whats wrong?" I ran over to him.
"I don't..." he frowned. "I don't like waking up and not having you there."
"Oh baby." I frowned and sat by him.
"I just keep thinking... What if I lose you? I'll never wake up to you again."
I frowned. Gerard really was terrified. His human emotions were really getting the best of him and I felt kind of bad. His eyes were full of fear and he seemed so..so...defenseless. For once, I could see the weakness in him. Gerard Way wasn't the tough vampire I always thought he was. Right now he was as vulnerable as a new born baby.
I guess that's just one of the many things love could do to you.
Gerard's POV:
Franks screams were getting louder.
"Gerard! Help me! Help me please!"
I ran in the dark towards a red glowing room, screaming. "I'm coming Frankie!"
I reached the room and saw Frank was in the grasp of his father.
"Oh, you've come to see your beloved die?" His father smirked at me.
Someone came from behind me and grabbed my arms. I tried to thrash my arms around frantically to get away. I needed to save my Frankie.
"No!" Frank screamed as his father dragged him away. Suddenly, a sharp object was thrown through Franks stomach and he gasped. His eyes went wide and he collapsed to his knees.
"Frankie!" I screamed in horror and fell to my knees, even though I was still being restrained. Tears welled in my eyes.
He coughed up blood and his father sent another knife into his back.
Frank fell lifeless.
I woke up gasping for breath. Frank was holding onto me.
"Gee. Gee are you okay?"
I realized I was crying. I shook my head.
He hugged me tight. "What happened?"
"N-Nightmare." I mumbled through my pants.
He held me until I caught my breath. I then explained the nightmare to him.
"I woke up to you thrashing about and saying "Frankie". Scared the shit out of me. I tried to wake you up sooner baby. I'm sorry." Frank touched my cheek.
"Its okay. I'm just glad you're here." I cuddled him close. Why the fuck was I so paranoid? Everything was going to be okay...Wasn't it?
Three days went by. I had the same reoccurring nightmare of losing Frank. I woke up gasping, and Frank would have to rub my sides and calm me down, explaining that he was still alive and still there for me, and lull me back to sleep with his soft voice.
I felt so guilty waking him up so much, but he told me not to worry. But of course, I did.
My father refused to discuss the subject of Frank's father. He hardly discussed anything while they were there. I sensed his worry, but he didn't show it at all. He pretended everything was fine and nothing bad was about to happen.
I'd go outside to smoke a cigarette, and my dad would be out there just starting his. I'd ask him what his plans were and he'd just shrug and continue taking drags. I got extremely pissed off and tried to get him to talk, but he just said he didn't know what he was going to do, smacked me, and walked off. I was growing really tired of him acting so weird.
I was surfaced from my thoughts. I was laying in bed, frank sound asleep beside me. I had refrained from falling asleep, since I wasn't up for another one of those nightmares. I stared at the ceiling above me.
The second I closed my eyes there was a gasp.
My eyes flew open with a rush of adrenaline and I looked over to see Frank being pulled away by his leg, but I couldn't see anything there.
There was nothing there.
"Gerard!" Frank screamed at the top of his lungs, reaching out for me, his eyes wide with terror.
I tried to grab his hand but some force collided into me, causing me to smash my head into the dresser of the room. I felt blood pour down my back and I felt dizzy. I reached my hand out and called for Frank.
The last thing I remember before blacking out is the faint scream of my name and Frank being dragged out of the room.
Before anyone could even open their mouth to speak, there was a banging on the door.
Akina panicked and looked around. "Everyone get into the basement. There you can find your way outside." She opened the door to the basement.
