The Ghost of You

Chapter 11

Gerard POV

“So boys, how is your catapult coming along?” Lindsey asked, smiling deviously from across the table.

“Um, it’s good. We’re going to build it tomorrow after we buy the supplies at the hardware store.” Frank said, trying not to make eye contact with his mother. She is so oblivious to the earlier events, even Lindsey knows.

I picked around at my casserole, confused at hits contents. It looked like it had meat in it, but it kind of tasted like a car tire. Lindsey seemed to be thinking the same as me, because she was sniffing a piece of it from the end of her fork. Frank watched us, sighing loudly.

“Mom, you’re terrible at this vegetarian thing.” He said, laughing.

His mom peaked up from her plate and laughed, “It’s hard to find recipes to fit a vegetarian who is allergic to everything.”

Frank got up from the table and went to the phone on the wall, dialing a number from a paper that was hanged on the refrigerator. A man could be heard from the other end, and Frank covered the phone and looked at us.

“Pepperoni or what?” He said, smiling.

We all agreed on a large pepperoni pizza while Frank’s mom rolled her eyes and took up our plates, dumping them in the garbage, including her own plate. Frank ordered a medium vegetarian and a large pepperoni, and then hung up. When the pizza came, we all ate in happiness. After dinner, Lindsey fled upstairs to her room.

“Ma, we’re going for a walk.” Frank said before grabbing his hoodie and grabbing my arm. As we left the house, I realized how dark it had gotten. It wasn’t quite dark yet, but the sky had a beautiful blue color to it. It looked like it was out of some sort of movie, and when a felt a hand brush against mine, it felt perfect. I grabbed frank’s hand and held it tight, and we walked together in silence.

It became dark and we were still walking quietly. The streetlights eventually came on and we decided that we should get back home. Frank’s face was so beautiful under the streetlight, his features were defined, and his eyes were shining like polished crystals.

When we got back, we went straight to his bedroom again. As soon as the door was closed, we were back to kissing. This time it was deeper and more meaningful. His fingers were tangled in my hair and tugging on my black locks every now and then. My hands were on either sides of his back, resting just under his shoulder blades. It was intense, snogging for so long that we pulled away struggling for oxygen.

After we were just too tired for any more, we just laid there. Shoulder to shoulder. Hand in hand. We started conversation after a few minutes, at first it was small talk, but then it became so much more. Crying and apologizing and memories. Our tears stained each other’s shirts and our hands became strained for holding on too tight. His shoulder became a resting spot for my head, and it fits perfectly in his neck. He fell asleep like that, but I stayed awake to watch him. The way his eyes would flutter when he dreamt. The way he turned to me and cuddled up against my chest. The way he smiled in his sleep between light snore sessions.

This moment is perfect.
