Teacher's Pet

Mikey's P.O.V

I was sitting in Mr. Iero's class when I got Mae's text. I was so happy. I really hope she's okay. I mean, she can't be that upset that I told her I loved her. Right?

"Mikey?" Mr. Iero's voice cut through my thoughts.
"What?"
"Are you going to pay attention or do you want to stay after school with me today?"
"I'll pay attention."
"Good."

He went back to teaching and I went back to not paying attention. As soon as the bell rang I was out the door. I really needed to see Summer. Mae said she was okay and I can trust Mae. I ran out the front doors and sprinted to my house. When I opened the door Summer was still asleep on the couch and Mae was standing in the kitchen taking to Gee.

"Is she okay?" I really wanted to talk to her but I didn't want to wake her up.
"Yeah. She needs to talk to you though." Mae walked over to he and shook her arm. Within seconds she was awake. I walked over to where she was and sat on the floor next to her.

"Mikey?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm...I'm sick."
"What do you mean?"
"I..." She looked up at Mae as if seeking help, "I have leukemia."
"What?"
"That's why I didn't want you to fall in love with me. I'm afraid that something is gonna happen to me and then you'll be alone. I don't want that to happen." She started to cry and I wrapped my arms around her.
"Shh, Summer it's okay. I'm here now. Shhh."
"I...I love you Mikey."
"I love you too."
