The Only Hope For Me Is You

I'd Trade All My Tomorrows For Just One Yesterday

Patrick’s P.O.V
I stepped out of the kitchen to see my younger brother standing next to a shorter boy. Their fingers were interlocked and the boy’s face was battered. I looked at Pete knowingly and disappointed, having he explained it to me a few hours before. I told Frank the way upstairs and waited until he exited the room to lecture my baby brother. I heard the shower turn on and looked at Pete with anger in my eyes.
“Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz, what the fucking hell was going through your head?” I scolded him.
“Patrick don’t fucking start. Okay. I don’t need your lectures right now. I need to figure out what I’m going to do about this mess. I feel like shit already and I definitely don’t need you adding to my miserableness.” Pete looked at me with pain in his eyes, and I knew that he felt bad about what he had done.
I walked over to Pete and hugged him. It had been a few months since I’d seen my brother. We both were kind of confused as to how to act around each other after we both confirmed to our parents, on the same night, that we were both bisexual. It wouldn’t have been so awkward if our parents didn’t question if we did anything together. That kind of built a wall between Pete and I. But he was my baby brother and I would do anything for him.
“Are you hungry?” I asked Pete walking back into the kitchen.
“A little bit, yeah. But I don’t want to eat without Frank.” Pete said quietly taking a seat at my dining room table.
As if he had heard his cue, Frank walked into the kitchen with my old t-shirt and shorts on. They seemed to swallow his small frail body whole. He managed a small smile and sat down next to Pete. Pete looked at Frank and smiled apologetically. He felt bad for what he had done.
"Kellin doesn’t know where Patrick lives so he won’t find us here.” Pete said looking into Frank’s eyes.
Frank gave a small nod and looked to me. I smiled and broke the small silence that seemed to be going on for a decade.
“Grilled cheese okay frank? If I had known more than an hour in advance that you were coming I would have made an actual dinner.” I explained to Frank.
“That sounds amazing, thank you Patrick.” Frank said smiling through the obvious pain.
I sat two small plates on the table, one in front of Frank and the other in front of Pete. They ate in silence and after their plates were empty I took them from the table. Pete stood, causing both Frank and I to look at him with confusion painted on our faces.
“I forgot my cigs at the house; I was going to go to the store to get some. Patrick can I drive your car so Kellin doesn’t recognize the van?” Pete asked relieving the confusion of Frank and I.
“Um, sure. The keys are on the table by the door.” I said looking at Pete. “Are you taking Frank?” I asked glancing at the boy next to me.
“If you don’t mind staying with Patrick for a few minutes, Frank, I have some things to think about.” Pete said looking from me to Frank.
“Sure Pete.” Frank said. Pain still evident in his shaky voice.
Pete smiled and made his way out of the house, closing the door behind him as he left. I looked at Frank and smiled making the awkward situation more awkward. I was good at that. I was never confident in my words or movements. Especially around good looking people. Frank was, no doubt, adorable. His eyes were a color of hazel and his black bangs swept over them so perfectly. The nearest drug store was a good ten minutes away so I knew Pete wouldn’t be here for at least a half hour. I looked back over at Frank and asked him if he wanted to watch a movie.
“I’m actually really tired. Do you mind if I go to bed?” He asked innocently.
“Of course not. You can sleep in my room. There’s a TV in there and a wide collection of movies on the book shelf if you can’t sleep.” I told him.
“Patrick, you’ve done so much already. I don’t want to take your bed too. I’ll just sleep on the couch or on the floor.” Frank said.
“Of course not. You’ve been through a lot and you need a good night’s sleep. You’re sleeping in my room and I’m sleeping on the couch. No arguments.” I said smiling at Frank.
“And what about Pete? I mean, I don’t know if he said we were together or not but I have a boyfriend and it would be a little weird to sleep in the same room as Pete...” Frank asked curiously.
“We’ll make him sleep on the floor. My room is the second to your right. Goodnight Frank.” I said to the boy waiting for him to exit before I went to the bathroom to change my clothes.
Instead of walking up the stairs and into my bedroom, Frank made his was over to me slowly. He stopped, leaving only an inch between our bodies. Frank hugged me and mumbled a ‘thank you’ under his breath. I hugged him back and whispered ‘you’re welcome.’ Frank released me from the hug and made his way up the stairs. I could feel my stomach doing cartwheels and I suddenly lost track of everything.
I went upstairs to change and then made my way to the couch laying my head on one of the small pillows and thinking about the boy in my room. Frank was only a few years younger than I so it wasn’t at all odd, but it felt wrong in a way. Maybe it was because my brother had made it quite obvious that he had feeling for Frank or maybe that fact that Frank already had a boyfriend. Either way, the feeling was wrong. But no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get the boy out of my head. I laid awake and thought of him for a few more minutes until I heard the car door of my Fiesta shutting and Pete’s quiet footsteps making their way to my front door. Pete walked in and looked at me.
“Where’s Frankie?” Pete asked a little alarmed. I smiled at the nickname that he had given Frank.
“He’s in my room.” I said. Afraid of what Pete would think.
“Oh. So you’re sleeping in here and I’m sleeping in your room with Frank, right?” Pete asked, already making his way up the stairs to my bedroom.
I didn’t want to disappoint him with what Frank had told me but I also felt a little jealousy coming on.
“Um, actually, Frank told me that it would be weird for you two to sleep in the same room. I have some blankets for you so you can make a pile on the floor...” I said looking into my baby brothers now saddened eyes.
“Oh… Wanna watch a movie then?” Pete asked making his way to the closet by the front door that held the extra blankets. I was a little flattered that he remembered where they were.
“Sure, The Nightmare before Christmas?” I asked. I don’t even really know why I asked, I knew the answer would be yes. The Nightmare before Christmas had been Pete’s favorite movie since the day it came out. He had Jack and Sally tattooed on his arm right after he saw it for the first time.
“You know it.” Pete said smiling at me. He threw the blankets on the floor and made his way to the book shelf full of movies by the couch. He took the DVD from the shelf and put it in the DVD player. I finally had my baby brother back.
“Pete...” I said a little hesitantly, I wanted nothing more than to tell him how I felt about Frank. But I wasn't ready to lose him yet again.
“Yeah?” Pete asked looking at me with worry in his eyes. I couldn’t tell him how I felt about Frank. That would take away everything that I just got back.
“I’m glad you’re here.” I said replacing what I was thinking for what I had wanted to say all night.
“I’m glad I’m here too.” Pete said pushing the play button on the remote
