I raised an eyebrow, “Frank don’t fuck around.”

“Gerard?” He spoke in a raised voice. I froze, the realization of what could be trouble was sinking in.

“Wrong.” A boy’s voice spoke, and footsteps walked toward us.

I could barely make the figure out from the dark but as it neared closer Frank and I cursed our luck.

“God dammit I’ve had it up to here with your family today, what could you possibly want?” I glared at the boy I once knew as a classmate.

“I see you can still keep yourself occupied in the midst of trouble Lana. Is it a turn on to you sluts? The danger? Surely your boyfriend should have known better. What is it, a death wish? Why couldn’t you just turn the other cheek, as did we?” He began to laugh, almost maniacally.

“Lucas what are you doing here?” My voice grew serious as I struggled to put my clothes back on without flashing him any more body parts. Frank was already fully clothed. How did guys get dressed so quickly?

“I came to finish business, the right way.” He sneered.

“And I came to avenge my Father!” He screamed, tears running down his cheeks.

“You need to leave Lucas, now, turn away before you do something you regret. You can be better than your Father, he was a dangerous man. Bad things happen to people in this kind of work field.”

“Don’t lecture me you god damn son of a bitch! You’re going to die. Today. And there’s no talking yourself out of this one.” Lucas pulled a heavy gun out of his jacket pointing it directly at Frank.

My breath hitched, “Lucas, back the fuck up, don’t you do this.”

“You don’t get a say sweetheart, because you’re going to die too.” He switched the gun to position on me.

“Lana, get behind me.” Frank murmured.

“No.” I snapped at him.
“Do it!” He barked.

Almost simultaneously, a bullet flew right past my face, not even an inch away. Had Lucas’s hands not been shaking I’d be toast.

I froze, my body seemingly going into the infamous flight or fight mode.

Before I could act Lucas staggered back screaming. I saw an arm wrap around his neck putting him into a head lock. My hand shot up to my mouth in complete shock and before I knew it Frank had yanked me by the arm and pushed me behind him, a death grip on me.

I looked over his shoulder to see Lucas struggling, choking for air. I attempted to push past Frank but his grip was too tight.

“You’re going to kill him!” I screamed.

“Don’t you fucking move Lana.” Frank growled.

“NO! He’s going to die!”
“Better him than you!” He yelled.

“LET ME GO FRANK!” I kicked and screamed shoving my way past him. I slapped him hard and his grip loosened enough for me to run free.

“LANA!” He screamed, running after me.

I could see the fear in Lucas’ eye, the blood rushing to his face as he struggled for air. Tears were streaming down his face. Behind Lucas stood Gerard, an expression blank of emotion.

“STOP! YOU’LL KILL HIM!” I almost reached them when Frank’s strong arms wrapped around me, lifting me off the ground and pulling me back. I could see Lucas searching his pockets, pulling out a small pistol. Gerard spotted it almost immediately and with a seemingly deafening snap, Lucas was gone, his neck broken and his body limp.

Gerard loosened his arms and Lucas fell to the floor, a look of horror stuck on his face for an eternity.

“Why… why would you..?” I fell to my knees, tears filling my eyes.
