The Paramour Sessions

Fast

"Whoa,'' Mikey thought as he slid across the kitchen floor. He was soaked from
the pool and was doing his best not wipe out as he made his way to the fridge. A cool breeze rushed out as he opened it, causing him to shiver and pull his towel tighter around his burnt shoulders. He had never really been much of an outdoor person and the painful sunburn was now reminding him why. Weren't Italians supposed to be tan?

Some turkey in the meat keeper caught his eye, momentarily distracting him fromhis apparently useless heritage. He grabbed it along with a couple slices of bread from the cabinet. Putting the bread in the toaster, he glanced back at the fridge searching for some mayo. He didn't care how much work a turkey club was going to be, he was starving. He vaguely heard footsteps down the hall, barely even registering in his mind. Finding the mayo, he turned back towards the toaster. The toast was done, but it seemed to be stuck. Mikey sighed and unplugged the toaster before reaching for a fork. He leaned over the machine, the stench of burnt toast making his eyes water. He reached forward, sticking the fork inside. He nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw a hand clamp down on his own and wrench it away from the toaster.

"Mikey! What the fuck, dude?" Gerard exclaimed, his eyes wide and mildly panicked.

"Jesus, Gerard, you scared the shit outta me!"

"I could say the same to you, what are you thinking?"

"I unplugged it," Mikey rolled his eyes.

"Uh, no actually, you unplugged the coffee maker," Gerard said, holding up the plug, which did indeed go to the coffee maker. "Not cool, by the way."

Mikey's face reddened, as he yanked out the remaining plug. Gerard rolled his eyes as
Mikey grabbed his fork once again and stabbed the toast, perhaps a bit more violently than was necessary. He plopped the two slices down on a plate and grabbed the jar of mayonnaise. Gerard smirked and handed him a butter knife before plugging the coffee maker back in.

"Man, you gotta see my room, you'd love it, it's terrifying."

"I saw your room, it looked like all the other ones," Gerard said, puzzled.

"No, with the light on. It's got like this blue light, it's totally freaky," Mikey insisted,
smearing the knife across the toast.

"Really? Well then, let's check it out. Sounds pretty cool," Gerard chirped, grabbing his half empty mug of coffee.

"Come on!" He shouted, walking out of the kitchen.

"Wha- now? But I'm..." Mikey sighed, tossing the unmade sandwich back on the plate, "hungry." He ran after Gerard, trying to keep up.

"Wait, where's the switch?" Gerard asked once they had reached Mikey's room.

"It's inside the room, Gerard," Mikey muttered, "as it should be," he added, brushing past him into the room.

"Well, I don't know. Sometimes the switch is on the outside, I don't know," he repeated. Mikey snickered and flicked on the light.

"Oh shit! That's awesome," Mikey turned to find Frank in the doorway, next to Gerard, looking slightly amazed by the blue glow. Gerard just laughed, his eyebrows raised.

"I shoulda let you have that first room," he murmured. Mikey smiled and walked over to the window.

"It's more intense when you pull down the-" Mikey jumped as he heard a crash behind him. He whirled around to find that the door was shut, separating him from Gerard and Frank. He ran over to it.

"Guys? What the hell are you doing?" He demanded, slamming his fist against the door.

"This isn't funny, let me out!"

Total silence was returned from the other side of the door. Mikey gave up banging on the
door, he knew if Frank and Gerard were trying to mess with him, it was pointless to do anything but wait for it to be over. He sighed and let his eyes wander around the room. Suddenly, the floor began to shake beneath him. The walls began to quiver, they even appeared to be getting... smaller. Mikey tried to relax, knowing a panic attack would be less than helpful at the moment. This was unusual, though. He often had trouble breathing or standing during an attack, and sometimes the room would spin or his vision would go black, but he had never hallucinated.

This didn't feel right. Something was different this time, he had never had an attack like
this. The floor rumbled again, louder this time. It wouldn't stop. Mikey tried to cover his ears, the roar was getting deafening. His hands distorted the sound badly, it seemed like the room was laughing at him, a deep rolling laughter. He started to shake, there was no way this was a panic attack, this was real. Just as the thought crossed his mind, a crack split up the top of the wall onto the ceiling. The room was caving in around him.

"NO!" He shouted, putting his arms around his head as debris rained down on him. Then, nothing. Silence. Broken only by the sound of the door being kicked in. Gerard ran in, followed by Frank.

"Mikey! What the hell?" Gerard shouted. Mikey looked up, slowly removing his hands
from his head. The room was fine, no shaking walls or laughing floor. The crack in the ceiling was still there, Mikey hadn't imagined that. Gerard was looking back at the door, skeptically.

"Mikey, were you ...holding the door?"

"What? No, I thought you were. I was banging on it and yelling for you to cut the shit,"

"No you weren't, we were yelling. We were right on the other side of the door, we would've heard you-"

"Well, you couldn't have heard me over all that noise," Mikey thought aloud.

"What noise?" Mikey turned to stare at him.

"You didn't hear that?" He asked incredulously. "The noise, the-the floor was rumbling and the friggen walls were closing in-"

"Mikey, we didn't hear anything," Frank mumbled, looking at him like he was mental.

"Are you sure it wasn't just a panic attack?" Gerard asked.

"A panic attack wouldn't really explain that, now would it?" Mikey spat, pointing at the large crack running up into the ceiling.
