Life isn't fair
Chapter 9
They continue about their daily business with little interest in anything. Every now and then one may stumble through a corridor, but most fail to adventure past the common areas. They seem to be scared of failing in their quests. Maybe they know the wrong door could scar them emotionally forever? Strange is that they seem to be lacking the need for life as though the human spirit has already died in them.
Ryan sits in a corner. He looks small as he curls into himself. The others have abandoned him to go eat. He has not eaten for two meals now. He says he feels sick, but he looks physically healthy. He has tears soaking his cheek. Every time he breaths another sob sounds clearly. He knows he will more than likely be the last one here. His burden is different than the others. He stands now to ascend the stairs solemnly. He greets his bed by falling onto it and burying his face deep in his pillow. A muffled yells signals his desperation and pain. As he finds his own agony eating him a friend enters the room. Pete has ventured into Ryan's abode.
His eyes are swollen as he lays down beside Ryan. Ryan whispers softly,
"What is it now?"
"I think Patrick left."
"How did you come to that conclusion?" Ryan has a snide tone to his voice.
"He walked into a room an hour ago and has yet to return."
"Well, that is good for him, aren't you happy?"
"I'm going to miss him."
Patrick had entered a room as Pete explained. He saw a pink door unlike the others. He starred at it for a few seconds debating to himself whether to go into the room or just leave it at rest. He finally thought if it caught his attention thus far it must be his savior room. He was correct in his thought. He walked into see himself in the beginning. He saw how he first looked. He was considered fat, ugly, and overall disgusting. He had hated himself then. He wasn't fond of himself now, but he is happier than before. He remembered looking into a mirror like his was now criticizing anything that would never be good enough. So many nights he had cried looking into that mirror, but had he not fixed this problem by losing weight? No he had only masked the underlying cause. Underneath his new exterior was still the same broken kid who could never love himself is he never looked past the flaws and saw the good. He was a nice man who never wanted to hurt others, so what if he weighed a bit more than most? He was perfect for being himself and no one else could ever be him. Patrick shattered the mirror before him. He walked through it to arrive back in his own house. Eliza was on the couch watching a movie. She looked at him laying his head on her lap. She whispered,
"Morning sleepy head." She caressed his face and kissed him gently. Everything felt right now. Patrick was finally happy with who he was.
In the castle things were winding down as it was time for bed. Pete walked to his own room with a somber expression to find Mikey already curled into bed. He was sobbing softly. Pete grazed his fingers over Mikey's soft forearm.
"Mikey, are you okay?"
"Pete, I just want to die some days."
"I know how that is, but trust me as when I say it gets better. Some days I doubt myself but I am still here proving the odds and myself wrong."
"But I can't. I'm too weak."
"You are never too weak to keep on living. I will always be here for you." Pete laid down beside Mikey softly humming and curling around him. Mikey did not argue though he normally would. He only wanted to know some one cared. They all wanted to know some one cared.
Ray's room was silent as he now lacked a roommate, Tre was quiet as he looked out the window to see nothing but a darkness that looked murderous to him. Everything was quiet in the two rooms. No one really said much that night.
Brendon saw Ryan lying face down on his bed and rolled him over. He was fast asleep. Brendon feather lightly caressed his high cheek bones and thin face. Ryan did not stir. Brendon leaned down and softly placed a chaste kiss to Ryan's lips. It was in vain as it never could be.
"Some days I wonder what life would be like if we had stayed together, others I wish we had been real and I not just your simple play toy whenever you wanted sex. How I wish you could have loved me." Brendon shed tears for only Ryan. Ryan would never know how much Brendon did and would always love him. He would go to the end of the earth for the unconditional love of Ryan Ross.
Gerard held Frank particularly close that night. He felt their days together would soon come to an end. Andy and Joe both slept in separate beds without even a word. Mike had fallen asleep long ago yet still no sign of Hayley that night. One can only wonder where she has dotted off to. Josh and Tyler never left their beds still traumatized from the abyss. All is silent in Dallon's room. He does not stir, nor speak, and hardly a breath can be heard coming from there. He passed out as soon as he hit the pillow.
Humans are very nostalgic at times. They cling to the past never thinking of the now or the future that could be. They only want to go back to when things were viewed as happy rather than make a happier tomorrow. One must look for happiness in themselves before it will fill their entire life the way they wish to.
