Life isn't fair

Chapter 5

They pass the day pretending they aren't afraid of everything around them. Now they know just a small bit of truth. Every move they make is carefully counted and precisely made for they fear what they might see. Fear drives everything in this castle. Strange how they flock and cling to one another now.

Pete is cuddled next Patrick as they both look nervously at the others. They seem to be afraid to leave one another. The fear makes them grow together each seconded that passes. What is this compassion that holds them together in a brotherly bond? Or is this the bond of lovers? Strange how humans work. They are so intricate yet also delicate.

I notice that some wander in threes rather than as a duo. Some are in groups of four and nothing larger than that. Hayley has found Joe and Andy to be fine company. Mike, Tre, and Billie play well together along the end of the stair case that begins the ascend to the fourth floor dormitories. Mikey, Ray, Frank, and Gerard talk but little do they stir. One may readjust a leg from time to time but they stay still in a far off corner. I can see there lips move, but hear not what they say. Dallon has made a peaceful friendship with the two known as Tyler and Josh. They seem to fit well together as they have previous knowledge of one another. Spencer and Jon reminisce of the old days from what my sensors catch.

Spencer says something about missing Jon at night when the bed was cold beside him. Strange is this what humans do to interact or is there more behind his speech patterns. I see Jon nod smiling at his counterpart. I wonder if they truly mean what they say at times or if they put up a facade to keep the conflict away.

Finally in the farthest corner of the ballroom is Ryan curled up into Brendon who seems to be humming to him. A soft wistful tune I suppose as it sounds a bit melancholy but nothing to discerning. Humans have this interesting way about them that unites them as one. Brendon some how calms Ryan though they have not been together for a long time, this devotion they have to one another never seems to fade. They hide behind thin veils of words the emotions they dare not think of.

Humans are of a strange breed. They rip and tear at one another for sport, while others are of the most caring nature. They never cease to interest my inner workings that one might simplify into being my brain. Complexity was never the humans strong suit as we can clearly see.

I then am forced to announce dinner then bed. The visitors have become fatigued with this day of thought and questioning. They must wonder as to what brings them here. How awful one must be to endure this torment of never knowing as to what may happen next. I know what will happen in all paths one may take. I am all seeing as to what fate lies ahead of them.

Dinner is not like breakfast with such merriment but it is silent. Hardly a fork scrapes along the plate. I can detect maybe a hushed whisper from the more daring but nothing of interest. As they feast again, though none seem to have much of an appetite, they gaze around at one another. They look as though they are asking 'is this real? Am I truly here?' The answer is yes to both of these questions.

As they finish dinner they begin to climb the treacherous stairs to the fourth floor. None seem interested in anything but falling asleep. The rules are far from strict here. I hold no power over what may happen to them, it is all their handy work. Some will fail in this quest to cope with the pain and anguish in there life while others shall rise from the ashes of what they once were.

The last at the table is Ryan who stares through me with piercing eyes. He whispers,
"Where shall I sleep? My room does not exist."

"Easily answered Ryan a room for you does now exist adjacent to that of Dallon and Brendon. You shall find it fitting for a man like you." My response answers his questions with an easy precise feeling.

"As you say god." Ryan has quite the attitude, but he is only hiding his real pain. He believes he has never known love, but how wrong he is.

Ryan makes a quick pace up the stairs to the new tenth room. He is cautious as he quietly opens the door. Inside is more than he could ever expect. He finds a king sized bed with four pillows and a black comforter. He has a dresser full of his clothing that was retrieved from his small apartment the night he was. Ryan changes into his boxers and an old t-shirt. Ryan never cared for theatrics. He was the guy to go along with others until it would hurt him.

Ryan slips softly into bed. He feels the tears at the corner of his eyes waiting to flood the pillow he rest on. Everything haunts him now. He has seen this; the torment it will cause, the nightmares suffered through. He cries softly into the cold dead air around him. He may wonder if this is the end. He weeps for what he misses most; a family that may love him even though he is different. He longs for unconditional love.

He lies so cold, almost dead inside, until the warmth wraps around him. He had not heard the door open as Brendon crept into his lonely room. He laid down softly beside him thinking he might be asleep until the sniffling was apparent and slight sobs were heard. Brendon softly caressed his cheek humming to him the lullaby that Brendon's mother used to sing sweetly to him when he woke up from a scary dream.

His memories seemed so distant in this place. All their memories did. They would not forget, but they seemed less important here. Things outside these walls ceased to exist at some point. Reality verses what they see are two very different things. They see what they wish and will to be real while reality lurks around the corners of this dungeon they lie in.

For tonight though Brendon and Ryan huddle close together as they feel safer. The emotions they feel are that of love yet neither will ever understand what is becoming of them. Coping with life may be difficult but both are capable. They will guide and assist each other in this quest to find sanity in a world of make believe. They live in a dream that at some point the dreamer must wake up to face the morning sun. When that day will come is a mystery, even to me.
