Aww Pickles, My Neighbor is A Hottie

***Karie's POV***

As he stormed off, I followed closely behind him. What kind of person would ask someone out when they know the other person is in pain? Did that make sense? Truthfully I couldn't care less. People didn't make sense. Gerard didn't make sense. I decided to tune everything out with music. I put my ear buds in and put on We The Kings. Gerard turned over his shoulder to check on us. Or maybe he was going to run. I shook my head and walked slower so he could get out of sight. He turned the corner and I followed. I saw the front of the Hospital. I jogged past Gerard into the ER and saw someone maintaining the desk.

"Yes Miss." She kept shuffling through her papers and didn't look up. Rude.

"My boy passed out." I tried to get her to look up at me.

"How are you related?" I was not ready for that question. I had to lie.

"He is my son." I was old enough to have a son.

"Who is the father?" She asked. An arm went around my waist and I looked up to see Gerard.

"Me." He looked straight at the lady. Gerard would never be the father of Bryan. Not if I could help it. The lady finally looked up and smiled at Gerard. Fuck her. I looked down at Bryan who was hanging in my arms. The lady pointed the way we were supposed to go. We went through the doors.

"Why did you say you were the dad?" I grumbled. Gerard walked straight without answering.

"Because I am a father figure to Bryan so grow up." He finally answered. Ouch. That hit in the heart. The rest of the walk was in silence. We went into the waiting room, which was completely empty.

"Gerard and Karie?" A doctor walked in. We both nodded. The man ushered us to follow him into his office.

"You're not the parents of Bryan. Trust me, I know." I flinched at the man's comment.

"I delivered him. Where are Bryan's real parents?" He slammed his fist on the table. Gerard moved himself in front of me.

"We don't know. Bryan was found on the streets. He claimed to be homeless so Karie took him in. He told us his mom was dead." Gerard pointed at the doctor. The doctor took some notes and sighed.

"Bryan only has one lung. We don't know how he is alive, but this happened a lot when he was a kid. His mom was going to give him the other lung, but as you said, she is dead. Or that's how it seems." The doctor frowned. I pushed Gerard away.

"I'll donate a lung to him." I offered. The doctor and Gerard both eyed me.

"Are you crazy? Someone of your age needs both lungs. The reason his mom offered was because...she was dying. And she knew it." The doctor looked down. He seemed to know a little to much about Bryan and his parent.

"How about his dad? Where is he?" I asked.

"Unknown." He answered almost immediately.

"What can we do?" I looked up at Gerard, who was looking at me.

"Medicine. His mom couldn't afford medicine so this happened a lot. The soup kitchen started offering money which helped pay. I guess that helped since this is the first time in years that this has happened." The doctor handed me a check and notice that told me what medicine to buy.

"Why the check?" I asked.

"It's a gift. I owe it to the little bugger. Can we keep him for the night? I need to study his breathing and blood." The doctor stuck his arms out to take Bryan. I reluctantly gave Bryan to him.

"Can we stay in the room?" The doctor nodded to my request. We followed him to an empty room. I sat on the chair and Gerard sat on the opposite one. We sat in silence both studying Bryan who was snoring softly. I got up and laid on the edge on window. Gerard got up and came over. He laid down as well and pulled me into his chest.

I fell asleep to his singing.
