What If They Find Out

When I walked into the room he was standing in the front talking to a few girls. Silently I slid into a desk in the back of the room. I was really hoping that he wouldn't notice me. I didn't want this to be any more awkward than it needed to be.

"Alright everyone, I'm going to collect your homework so please have it out on your desk," Mr. Way told everyone as he ushered the girls to their seats.

He walked down the aisles tantalizingly slow. He would go to each person, look at their drawing, and pick it up. By the time he got to my desk I was practically shaking with anticipation.

Mr. Way stopped at my desk, looked down, grinned, and then looked up at me. Then he said exactly what I thought he was going to say when I had come up with the idea, "So what book is this from, Frank?" he questioned. With as much confidence as I had, I answered him, "A yearbook." A few kids in the class started laughing. "Very creative," he said and then smirked as he walked away.

The bell rang and everyone ran out of the room. I was going to head to French but Mr. Way called me. I walked to the front of the room, almost trembling with anxiety.

"Yes?" I said carefully. "Do you really think of me as your inspiration?" he asked seemingly hopeful. I thought for a second about what would be the best response to this. After what must have seemed like an eternity to him I answered with, "Something like that." and grinned.

Then I grabbed my books and headed to French.

I took my seat in Math. The teacher, Mrs. Brannon, otherwise known as Mrs. Bitch by the students, wrote today's assignment on the board. "Now this should be review by now"

More Algebra

Thank god Mr. Way had helped me with this last night.

When she handed me the paper she gave me the evil eye. Surprisingly I understood everything on the paper. I handed in the work and headed back to my seat for the last two minutes of class. As I sat down I looked back at her. Her face was a look of sheer astonishment.

When the end of the day bell rang she called me to the back of the room. A lot of people smirked thinking that I had failed once again. "I don't know what you did but keep it up," she said as I reached the back of the room. " Now go home, and just know that you have improved greatly. If this continues you might be able to get a B- by the end of the year," she finished.

I went to my locker to be surprised by Mr. Way standing there. "Uh, Mr.Way?" I said obviously confused. "Call me Gerard," he told me and then continued, "Can you come to the my classroom when you are all packed up?" "I don't really have time, I have to be home by 3:15," I answered truthfully. "I'll drive you home. I just really need to speak with you," he said desperately.

I thought for a second. If I go with him he might want to talk about yesterday. Plus he might get in trouble for driving me home. Yet if I don't go with him it will hurt him and I don't want to see him upset. "Alright, I'll be there in a second," I answered finally. "Thank you," was all he said before he left.

I'd finished packing my bag so I started sprinting down the hall. I was the only student left in the building so the blank white hall were dead silent.

I entered the room to find him siting at his desk with his head on a stack of papers. "Mr... uh Gerard" I said to get his attention. "Oh Frank. I'm just gonna get right to this I guess. Uh, when you kissed me yesterday, and today, when you showed me that I was your inspiration, I kind of assumed, uh... Do you like me... more than you should?"
