I Lost My Fear of Falling
Chapter 2
“It should have been me,” he ran his hands through his hair in frustration. My ears ached from the amount of times I’ve heard the frantic tap tap tapping of his shoes as he paced the small hallway. “It was my fucking fault.”
I slumped into a plastic chair, shifted and stretched a bit “It’s not your fault, Frank. She’ll be okay. You know she’ll fight. She’ll pull through.” I got out a pack of cigarettes and stuck one in my mouth.
“She’s in a fucking coma, Gerard!” I stood up sat beside him as he crumbled on the floor “A coma, oh my god.”
“C’mon, let’s go for a smoke.”
He shrugged and I led him outside.
“Mikey and Ray will be here soon. Mikey’s finishing school for the day and Ray had a biology quiz, so he couldn’t bail.”
“Why aren’t you at school?”
I chuckled wryly “I ditched, duh.”
He looked at me. I exhaled a thin stream of smoke and stamped out the remnants of my cigarette with the heel of my boot “You’re one of my best friends. Your sister’s in the hospital. You were just in an accident.” I shrugged “It all added up to me not going to school.”
He managed a small smile while he punched him lightly in the arm “You’d use your mother’s pms as an excuse to not go to school, dickwad.”
“If I could get away with it, yeah.”
“C’mon, let’s see if she’s okay. I feel bad being away from her.”
Just as Frank and I made our way back to the room, we saw that there was a commotion.
“What the fuck is going on?” He sprinted towards her room with me not far behind, but a nurse stopped us.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Iero, but you can’t go in there yet.” She says softly, her eyes kind. Normally I know Frank would be polite to this woman but he was freaking out.
“She’s my fucking sister, of course I can go in there!”
“I’m sorry, but you can’t right now. Dr. Johnson is doing everything he can and as soon as she stabilizes, we can get you to come in.” she put a hand on Frank’s shoulder but he just shrugged it away.
The nurse left and Frank was pacing back and forth muttering things under his breath. I knew there was nothing I could do or say to make him feel better, so I just took a seat and waited it out.
After what felt like an eternity, the same nurse approached us and said we could go in and see her now. Frank all but ran to the room. He breathed out a huge sigh of relief when we saw that she still pretty much looked the same as she did before.
“What happened?” tears threatened to fall from Frank’s eyes as the nurse checked her chart.
“She had some mild convulsions, but she’s fine now. We don’t know what caused it yet, so we scheduled an MRI for tomorrow.”
“Shit,” I say before I could stop myself.
“It’s just precautionary, it could mean nothing at all.” The nurse tried to comfort us, but we were too riddled with worry to be comforted.
“Okay, I’ll leave you boys to it.”
“Frank, she’ll be okay.” I say with not as much conviction as before “Mikey and Ray will be here in like 10 minutes. You and I can go home for a bit and eat and you can shower or something.”
“No.” he sat on the chair next to her bed “I’m not leaving her.”
“Come on, Frank. Your mum will come visit her later as well.”
“NO!” he roared “I’m not fucking leaving her, okay?”
I held up my hands in defeat and he buried his head on the space next to her arm.
I couldn’t bring myself to look at Sarah. She looked so fragile tucked between the hospital sheets. Her skin had lost all its glow and I sorely missed the red in her cheeks. I begged her internally to open her eyes because I don’t know what I’d do if I never got to see her green eyes ever again. Her breathing was shallow and almost labored and it makes me think back to all the times her and I chain smoked on her front porch and watched the sun set.
“Sarah, please wake up.” I mumbled to myself “We need you.”
I looked over at Frank who fell asleep with his head on the side of her bed.
“I need you.” I said a little louder this time.

Notes
Short chapter, I know! I've decided that each chapter would have a different narrator. It'll alternate between Cara and Gerard.Anyway, thanks for reading! Comments, subscribers and ratings would be wonderful!
:)
I really love the story you've got going here! I can't wait to see how this all works out
