Don't let 'em Take the Light Behind Your Eyes
Chapter Three
Gerard's POV
I woke up the next day in Lex's bed with her next to me, her cheeks had dried tears on them. I know we've only known each other for a day but I already consider her one of my best friends. It killed me to hear her cry like she did last night, I took another look at her and her face looked so bad it wasn't swollen anymore but it was really bruised.
Someone knocked on the door and I dove into her closet, I heard the lock click and her sister walked in sitting beside her and eventually pulling her into a hug.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you Lex." She whispered getting teary.
"Stop crying Lace, it isn't worth it." Lex mumbled.
"I didn't realize you were awake. Mind telling me who's shoes and sweatshirt are on the floor?"
Shit I forgot to grab my stuff.
"That's my stuff."
"Sure it is, Gerard you can come out I won't hurt you, just make sure Dave doesn't see you."
I opened the closet door and came out with my head down, "I should get going Lex."
"Nonsense have you looked outside? It's raining cats and dogs your staying here."
"What about your parents?"
"They won't notice." Lex mumbled and got up from her bed and going into her bathroom.
"Is she okay?"
Lace shook her head, "She's had a rough life Gerard, she won't talk to me or Dave anymore. I guess that's our fault but I just wish I had my happy giggly little sister back. Life fucked her over."
"Life fucks us all over."
Lace sighed and laid back on her sister's bed, and just stared at the ceiling, "Does she hurt herself Gerard?"
I gulped knowing I should probably tell but I don't exactly know, "I've only known her for a day Lacey I don't know."
She nodded and looked back up at the ceiling, I noticed how Lacey had zero makeup on and I think she looked way better that way, Lex and her looked really alike except Lace was blonde and didn't have a nose ring like her younger sister. They both are super light skinned more so than me, but Lace tries to cover it up with makeup. Lex is flawless almost as if she hasn't had a stitch of acne ever, whereas Lace had scars and marks from having it really bad, but she still looks pretty without makeup.
"You should wear no makeup more often Lace." I mumbled.
She laughed and got up leaving the room, no less than a minute later Lex walked out completely dressed I chuckled at her shirt, but I noticed that she was wearing a jacket yet again. I don't know how she could not die of heat in it.
"What do you want to do today?" She asked pushing her bangs out of her eyes.
I shrugged, not really caring what we do as long as we can hang out.
"We could watch a movie or something if the guys want to come over." She offered.
I nodded, "I can text them." I picked my phone up and texted my brother, Frankie, Ray, and Bob.
To: Mikey; Frank; Ray; Bob
Hey guys Lex said if you wanted to come over to watch a movie she would love that. Please guys she's really upset and needs some cheering up.
I sent it and soon enough they all replied.
From: Frank
What happened to my Lex? Is she okay?
From: Mikey
Where did you get off to last night? I had to cover for you, did you sleepover at Lex's?
From: Ray
On my way now with everything to cheer a sad little Lex up.
From: Bob
Is she alright? Did someone hurt her?
I replied to all of them
Just get over here she needs some friends and I'm pretty sure I'm not enough to cheer the poor thing up.
Lex came up in with a cup of what I assumed was coffee, she handed it to me.
"I wasn't sure how you took it so I just did it like I do mine, two sugars, and a splash of milk?" She said in more of a question.
"That's perfect thanks Lex."
She nodded, sitting down on her bed and sipping her coffee, "listen Gerard I'm sorry about last night."
"Why are you sorry? I should be sorry, I didn't mean to upset you."
She looked down at her coffee, "Look I've just had some stuff happen to me in the past I hope one day I can open up to you but that day isn't today."
The doorbell ran and Lex got up heading downstairs, I followed and standing there was all our friends, they all stopped when they saw her face.
Frank was the first to speak, "Who fucking did this to you? I swear I'll kill them."
"Frankie stop it's nothing I fell."
"That isn't nothing, and that doesn't come from falling, who did it?"
"Kat." She whispered.
Frank pulled her into a hug, "she isn't going to come near you again, I promise."
I don't know why, but the way Frank was hugging her made my blood boil, I suddenly got really jealous, but I shook it off.
"Guys seriously it's nothing it doesn't matter, let's just go watch something." She left us all standing there and headed towards the kitchen then took a left. She turned and looked at us, "well are you coming or not?"
The guys took their shoes off and followed her towards wherever she was going, we stopped in a really large room with a gigantic tv, movie theater seats, and a bookshelf, with so many movies it was insane.
We all probably looked like idiots gawking at the room, but it was so cool. She also had a bunch of gaming systems in here, I noticed in her room that she also had a bunch of games up there.
"Are you just going to stand there and stare or are you going to sit down?" She asked with a laugh.
We all sat down and she again sat on the floor even though there's plenty of seats, "Lex why are you sitting on the floor?"
She shrugged, and got up sitting next to me. She had done that last night too, I don't know what was going on in this house but I was going to figure it out.
*
We watched a bunch of horror movies, in which Lex would just laugh at the gore and the screaming. It was a little scary to be honest, I mean when you see stuff like that it should freak you out but she laughed.
We all kinda looked at her weird, but we ignored it obviously she liked scary movies. We spent a lot of the day in the movie room, around 5 Ray and Bob had to leave, so it was just me, Frankie, and Mikey.
We decided against watching another movie so Lex turned on the lights and we sat there in silence for a little while.
"Lex, why do you always wear jackets?" Mikey asked suddenly.
She jerked her head to him and glared, "Well you see it's like none of your fucking business." She growled out, and stood up leaving the room.
"What did I say wrong?"
"She didn't mean it Mikey, I'll go talk to her." I said getting up and heading up to her room. I knocked on the door.
"If it's Mikey go away."
"It's me."
The door opened revealing Lex, "what do you want?"
"Are you okay?"
"Peachy."
I laughed, even when she's pissed off she's adorable. I mean she's really petite, she's like Mikey really lanky and skinny, she's just hard to take seriously and she really isn't all that tall either maybe the same height as Frank a little taller actually but she's still small.
"Come on don't be mad Mikes didn't mean it he's just curios."
"You know curiosity killed the cat." Just then a black streak shot past me and into Lex's arms scaring the shit out of me.
"What the fuck is that?"
Lex was holding onto a black cat with really green eyes, "This is my cat Luna, she is my cat, not my brother or sister's I bought her with my own money." She looked quite proud of herself, and I had to admit Luna was adorable.
"I didn't know you had a cat."
"She keeps to herself when people are here, my grandma didn't even know we had her until a couple months ago." She looked sad when talking about her grandma.
"Do you miss her?"
"Who?" She asked looking confused.
"Your grandma, duh." I said joking.
"Yeah I do, I used to spend all of my free time at her house, then my parents announced we were moving and I didn't want to go. I miss her a lot, I wish I could go back to her."
"You'd love my grandma, she sounds a lot like yours."
"My grandma is like my mom."
I smiled, she sounded like my grandma Elena. I'd have to take her to visit some time she would love her.
"Come on let's go back downstairs Mikey feels bad."
She bolted up holding tight to Luna, who was snuggled into her chest. It was adorable, I stretched out my hand to pet her, and Lex stopped letting me. Luna rubbed up against my hand.
"She likes you." Lex said smiling. "She hates my whole family."
"Why's that?"
"That's right you haven't met my parents yet." She mumbled sounding like she hates them more than anything. Actually to be honest I haven't even seen them yet, Lacey seems to treat Lex like her daughter instead of little sister.
Lex went downstairs with me trailing behind holding onto Luna who was purring the whole time. She went into the room and I shut the door behind her, Lex climbed into the same seat she had been sitting in earlier.
"You have a cat?" Frank asked staring at the animal.
"This is Luna and she is my cat and only my cat, I bought her." She again looked really proud of herself, she let Luna down who crawled over to me and meowed at me standing on her hind legs trying to get me to pick her up, so I did.
"Since when do you like cats?" Mikey asked.
"Since I met Luna who's the coolest cat I've ever met."
Lex laughed, "I'm sorry about being rude earlier Mikes, I just I don't want to talk about it yet. Please respect that guys."
We all nodded knowing that she would talk to us about it in her own time, I didn't want to push her and neither did Mikey or Frankie.
"I can respect that." We all said at once.
"Hey guys, oh you have the demon cat in here." Dave said referring to Luna.
"Fuck off Dave, your the one that stepped on her tail." Lex said glaring at her older brother.
"Whatever."
"What do you even want?"
"Oh right, we're having dinner soon your welcome to stay if you want guys."
"I would love to." Frankie said.
"Yeah us too." Mikey said smiling.
"Cool mom is making burgers."
"I'm a vegetarian." Lex and Frankie said at the same time.
"I know Lex, I'm making you some veggie burgers."
She nodded relaxing, Luna started hissing at Dave and scratching her claws at him. "I'm leaving you stupid cat." He walked out and shut the door and Luna relaxed.
"Geez you weren't kidding when you said Luna hates your family." I laughed.
Lex shrugged and we were called for dinner, Luna jumped from my arms into Lex's.
"You can walk you silly kitty." Lex said setting her down. Who followed us into the kitchen and sat by what I assumed was her food bowl. Lex filled it with food and Luna meowed her appreciation and started eating.
We sat at a rather large dinner table where Lex sat away from everyone else and I sat next to her, the rest of us filled in. Her parents were already eating and didn't seem to pay much attention to the four people who had just sat down.
"So Lacey honey, how are things going at school?" Her mother asked.
"Great mom I loved the first day."
"That's great honey are you trying out for cheerleading again?"
"Of course and I thought I would give track a try."
"What about you David?"
"Great mom, I made the football team. First practice is tomorrow."
"Oh honey I'm so proud of you, isn't that great Robert?"
"Wonderful son, I'm so proud of you."
The conversation ended after that, they didn't even look in Lex's direction. She was looking down and picking at her food not really eating it. I was shocked actually, her parents like completely ignored her. Frank and Mikey kept looking from Lex's parents to her, they didn't even acknowledge her sitting here or us for that matter. Her parents didn't even say anything about their daughter's face which was still pretty swollen, but turning black and blue. I looked over at her and she looked a little upset about it, but didn't say anything.
Lace and Dave looked at her with sympathy, okay I definitely need to talk to them about whatever the fuck is going on here. Her parents, brother, and sister finished eating and got up leaving her there without even saying anything.
"Lex what's going on with your parents?" Frankie asked glaring at their retreating bodies.
"What? Nothing." She had tears in the corner of her eyes.
I pulled her towards me hugging her. "Don't cry it'll be okay. I promise."
She pushed off my body and stood up taking our plates to the kitchen, "you guys should probably get going it's late and there's school tomorrow." She mumbled not looking up at us.
We nodded getting up and she walked up to the front door, I gave her a hug and she clung to me not seeming to want to let go but did. Mikey and Frank both hugged her but she let go fast.
"Bye guys."
"Bye Lex." We chorused and she shut the door locking it behind her.
Frankie started walking the opposite direction from us waving, "see you guys tomorrow."
Me and Mikey waved back and started towards our house. "That was weird." Mikey said, "I mean it was like she wasn't even there."
"I know, she looked pretty hurt by it too."
He nodded, we reached our house and I unlocked the door walking inside and locking it behind me. I headed downstairs to my room in the basement and Mikey went upstairs.
I changed out of my clothes and into my pajamas, I climbed into bed and fell asleep thinking about how weird it was the way her parents treat her. I guess she really was serious when she said her parents wouldn't notice.
I woke up the next day in Lex's bed with her next to me, her cheeks had dried tears on them. I know we've only known each other for a day but I already consider her one of my best friends.
