Should I thank you for the Venom? (Redo)
All the Boys in the Band
Gee's pov.
I walked over to the door in the corner of my room and opened it.
“Holy fudge! I thought that was a closet!” Lulu’s surprised yelling caused us all to laugh.
“That’s kind of the point!” Frank laughed, still on Bob’s back.
Behind the door was a completely separate room that had sound proofing lining the walls. It was double the size of my bed room. There was a full drum set in one corner on a platform. Two guitars and a bass hung on the wall. A microphone and stand stood in the middle of the room. A sound desk complete with recording equipment sat in the left corner. There were amps and speakers sitting in a neat row along the back wall. A worn leather couch was placed next to the door.
“Welcome to heaven, Lulu!”
“What…? How…? This is truly epic!” Lulu exclaimed as she walked over to my cordless mic.
“I’m glad you like it!” By this time we were all in the room, Frank was getting off Bob’s back, and Mikey was coming down the stairs.
“Mom said to go for it, but try not to scare Lulu with our screaming and alter egos.” Typical Mom!
“Alter egos?” Lulu seemed confused as she took a seat on the couch.
“Ah, this is where we can finally be ourselves.” Frank said, taking his guitar, Pansy, off the wall. “Prepare to meet Gee the Sass Master. You’re in for quite show, Lulu.” I chuckled at that, knowing how I could get.
Bob was sitting behind his drum set, twirling a drum stick around. “What shall we start with?”
“How about ‘Thank You For the Venom’?” I suggested, looking over at Lulu for approval. She nodded and smiled. “Okay boys, on my count. One, two, one two three GO!
“Sister, I’m not much a poet, but a criminal, and you never had a chance!
Love it, or leave it, you can’t understand a pretty face, but you do so carry on, and on, and on.
I wouldn’t front the scene if you paid me!
I’m just the way that the doctor made me, on, and on, and on, and on
Love is the red the rose on your coffin door! What’s life like, bleeding on the floor, the floor, the floor?”
By the time I hit the chorus, Lulu was totally into it. She was rocking out on that couch and it gave me the perfect idea. While singing and swaying my hips, I walked over to the sound desk and grabbed another mic. I turned it on and handed it to Lulu. She looked surprised but took my hand as I pulled her off the couch. By the second verse, Lulu had started to sing with me. We sang the second verse and chorus together. She could make her voice surprisingly edgy which was perfect for singing punk rock. Ray took his solo while being backed up by Bob. My favorite part of the song was coming up, but I decided to let Lulu do it solo.
“You’ll never make me leave, I wear this on my sleeve, you wanna follow something.
Give me a better cause to lead! Just give me what I need, give me a reason to believe!”
Damn! She was good! I jumped in for the second part, and we ended the song.
Frank fell onto the floor from exhaustion. We hadn’t had a jam session in quite a while, and when Frank jams, he jams hard. Lulu and I sat down on the floor while Ray and Mikey took the couch. Bob just stayed on his seat behind the drums.
“That was awesome!” Frank yelled from the floor.
Mikey was tossing waters to everyone. Lulu took a sip from her bottle and tipped over so she was sort of lying on top of Frankie.
“Lulu, your singing is amazing! I didn’t know you could sing like that!” She was truly amazing.
“I didn’t even know. My voice is usually much softer than that. I mean, I wasn’t that good.” Lulu sat up but only seemed to shrink back from the praise.
“You’re kidding me, right?! You almost sing better than Gee!” Mikey laughed from the couch. “If we were all straight, I’m sure we would have to draw straws to keep us from fighting over you!” That was not something I was expecting to come from Mikes, but, then again, we all get a bit sassier down in the band room.
Lulu’s face had gone bright red; so did Bob’s. Mikey, Ray and I started laughing while Frank opted for a wolf whistle. The look on Bob’s face was priceless.
“See Bob, the only guys you’ll have to challenge are the ones at school.” Ray managed to choke out in-between laughs.
“No one would ever want me.” Lulu said quietly.
“Clearly you didn’t notice that half of the boys in our classes couldn’t stop staring at you. Even the cheerleaders think you’re gorgeous. That’s why they can’t stop bothering you to hang out with them.” I was starting to realize that she wasn’t kidding about what she was saying about herself.
“What’s it to Bob anyways?” Lulu asked, clearly wanting us to stop questioning her.
“Oh, well, Bob’s the only one in the group that is straight, so, yeah…” I said feeling incredibly stupid for not pointing that out. “I guess we forgot to tell you that…”
“Oh…” Lulu and Bob awkwardly looked over at each other.
“So what do you guys want to do now?” Frank asked, trying to break the awkward feeling in the room.
“Do you want to play some video games?” Mikey suggested from the couch.
“But, sweetheart, there are six of us and four controllers.” Ray pointed out again.
“Like I said, I can just watch!” Lulu piped up from next to me, her cheeks a more normal color.
Bob got up from behind the drums and walked over to the rest of us. He offered his hand to Lulu to help her up, receiving a small thanks. He then offered a hand to me and helped me up. “I don’t mind sitting out either. Then Lulu and I can get to know each other better.”
I looked at the two of them. They would look cute together.Frankie and I exchanged a knowing glance. “Then with that settled, let’s go!” I yelled excitedly. Everyone put their instruments and equipment away and made their way back into my room. Ray and Mikey went for the couch again while Bob and Lulu sat on my bed. Frankie and I dug around trying to find a good game to play.
“Hey Gee, do you still have that Star Wars game?” Frank asked after not finding anything good.
“Oo! I love that one! Mikey squealed, almost bouncing on top of Ray.
“If I’d have known you were such a nerd…”Ray joked.
“Oh, shut up! You know you love that about me!” Mikey giggled as he lightly punch ray on the arm.
“Hey love birds!” I called over to Mikey and Ray. “Knock it off with all the lovey crap!” Everyone except them was laughing. I hadn’t had that much fun with my friends in a long time. I felt genuinely happy with my life at that point.
I heard a faint buzzing and looked behind me to see Lulu pulling out her phone. She made a face and groaned.
“What happened?”
“My mom said I have to be home in an hour!” she whined.
“Well, I guess we’ll just have to hang out again tomorrow, won’t we?” I suggested with a smirk.
Lulu smiled. “I guess we will.”
