Remember When You Were Madman?

Give Them All That They Can Drink And It Will Never Be Enough

I lay against the wall, blood streaming down my arms and legs where the injection tubes were until my thrashing ripped them out. Another experiment was over. They had injected me with their very own torture serum, and that last time I wasn't able to hold it down, I emptied my stomach trying to free the serum from my body. The curators walked into the room, dressed in their long, white lab coats.I wanted to rip their throats out.

"Now then,Nova ." One of the curators said to me. "Lets just get you back to your cell."
The curator signaled something to the people in the booth, and suddenly my wrists were released from the cuffs the wall with a loud sigh. I rubbed my wrists, which were nowbright red and stinging. The curators helped me to my feet and, clutching my arms tightly, began to lead me to my holding cell.

My cell. My cell is the only place I can feel truly peaceful. I'm under constant video surveillance, but I'm lucky not to have any guards standing near by. The door opened. The curators threw me inside and quickly shut the door behind me. Through the door I heard one of them say something to me:
"Goodnight, Nova, have nice dreams."

I had lived in an orphanage until I was about eight years old, I dared not to take me pills or wear my headphones to sleep at night, I became rebellious and that's when the agents had come to bring me to the facility, and that's where I had lived for the past ten years.

The loud blast of the horn startled me awake. Was it morning already? I sat up and stretched just as the door opened and the curators walked in, one of them holding a big plate of mushy substance that was my food.

"Eat up, Nova." He said, sliding the plate across the floor to me.
The door slid shut once again and I was left there staring at my breakfast mush.

"A special experiment, huh?" I thought to myself. "What's that supposed to mean? Are they going to use the Sweet Cyanide this time?"

My stomach growled, so I reached into the mush and grabbed a large handful to feed myself. It tasted disgusting….but it was food. Once I had cleaned my plate, I just sat there, waiting. Finally the door opened, and there stood the curators, ready to strap my helmet to my head

I rolled my eyes as I saw as the guard stepped into view.We walked down the hallway, my arms tightly held by the curators and the guard pointing the gun at my back.

Next thing I knew, I was being thrown into the large room. Unprepared for the sudden motion, I lost my footing and fell to my knees just inside the doorway. I heard the door close behind me. My helmet that prevented me from seeing anything weighed my head down. My knees and the palms of my hands burned, and the sudden coolness of the room made my body shiver, numbing my senses.

"So, what am I supposed to do?" I asked.
"Talk to me." The other person said.

The strange noise crept into my sound sleep, growing louder as it slowly awakened me, until it finally blasted, on-again-off-again, in my ears. At first I thought it was the morning horn, but after another listen, I noticed that it wasn't. It was a sound I had never heard before, like a loud, buzzing sound that turned on and off again.

"W-What's going on?" I asked myself.
Suddenly a voice came on over the intercom:

"All staff evacuate immediately! All staff evacuate immediately! This is NOT a drill! The underground research lab has been breached! I repeat! The underground research lab has been breached!"

Just then, I head gunfire right outside of my cell. After a few short seconds, the gunfire stopped, and brief screams of agony followed…..and then, silence. Cautiously, I stood and slowly began walking towards the door, afraid of what I might find through the tiny glass window.

Almost instantly, a figure came into view of the window, moving slow and deliberately across the floor, its head incased in a solid metal helmet. I recognized her instantly.

"Gerard!" I cried, racing to the door and pinning my body against the door. "Gerard!"

He kept moving. He never once stopped or looked at me, he just kept on moving, slowly and steadily. I stood on my toes, desperately pounding on the thick glass, trying to get his attention.

"Gerard!" I cried. "Gerard, wait! What are you doing? You're going to be killed!"
She never stopped. Could he hear me? I tried again, only louder.
"Gerard!"

He stopped, proving that he could hear me. He stood there, suddenly motionless.

"Gerard?" I asked. "Hey, stop it! You're going to get yourself killed! Can you hear me? Answer me!"

I couldn't tell for sure, but it sort of looked like he shook his head, then he walked out of the view of the window. I pressed the side of my face into the window and stood on my toes, trying to catch just one more glimpse of him, but he was already gone.

Just then a metal sheet closed over the window, knocking me back in surprise. A voice came over the intercom:

"Tranquilization of test subjects now in process! Tranquilization of test subjects now in progress!"

A sudden hissing sound came from the walls, and out of their pours came a sickly green fog. Startled, I backed up until my back touched the wall as the eerie green fog loomed closer. What was this? Was this a toxic gas they were using to kill me and the others? Or maybe they wanted to kill me only, as I had been a friend of Gerard's . The fog swiftly engulfed me, surrounding me with it's foul-smelling odor. The room began to blur, I felt sick to my stomach.

My mind was suddenly erased of thought, and I felt my bare body hit the cold, hard ground before I blacked out.
****************
I stood and looked at the door. I knew that there was no turning back from what I was about to do…but I really didn't care! That was my cue to run! I sprinted through the door as fast as I could on my skinny legs.

I rounded a blind corner and into another hallway. I stopped behind the corner and waited. The intercom popped to life and said over the noise of the alarm:

"All staff evacuate immediately! All staff evacuate immediately! This is NOT a drill! The underground research lab has been breached! I repeat! The underground research lab has been breached!"

Familiar words. From a distance I heard doors slamming and voices shouting, followed by the familiar heavy footsteps and muttered screams.

In the blink of an eye another person drenched in blood ripped apart his body, letting his intestines spill out onto the floor. I took a moment to gaze down at what had just happened in front of me: the twisted, unrecognizable body at my feet.

The dark hallway was abandoned, or so it seemed. I was halfway down the hallway when a door swung open and out stepped a woman in a white coat, a familiar white coat, yet a not so familiar face, it was bluish grey and her eyes were clouded over like cataracts. This was one of my curators! She saw me immediately and yet she didn't exactly react, a sickening screech erupted from her throat.

She seemed to try run; she only slunk down to the floor on unsteady legs. The curator finally reached the back wall of the room as I stood frozen yet trying to make my body run from this creature.

"Stay where you are, Nova!" A voice demanded from behind.

With a growl, I turned my head and saw a thick group of guards barricading the doorway of the room with their guns drawn. The rest of my curator lay with a bullet in the head

The guards ordered me. "You have five seconds to comply before we shoot!"

I glanced back at the woman curator.

"Three seconds, Nova! NOW!"

My cold eyes never left the woman. They saw me smile maniacally and heard me whisper; "Looks like the tables have turned!"

I continued to stand there and watch the creatures attack the guards before my eyes until the gunfire stopped. The guards were finally dead. I could hardly see them through the mob of ugly creatures ripping them apart in front of me, I could hear them screeching to each other like animals.

I looked over the group before me with a crooked smile, up one side, then down the other. I leapt forward and attacked. The terrorized screams of those creatures were over within seconds, and when it was over
I stood there in the middle of the hall, smearing their blood under my feet. I inhaled deeply and sighed.

The curators, the people who had caused all my suffering for ten long years, now lay in bloody heaps on the floor. By my doing and the infected monsters.

Then the screams started, screams of terror from other sectors of the building, and they fed my excitement. The panicked crowd scattered in a frenzy to escape. Some foolish people ran down hallways.

The remaining majority packed into the elevator.

I didn't have much time to analyze the creatures though. As they passed me by, all I simply did was move out of the way.

A woman collapsed with a shriek as her stomach was sliced by that creature.
I looked over my shoulder, the woman lay beside a man, still alive but bleeding fast.
**************
Third person POV:
"Is that all she wrote?" one of the nurses said as she read the last sentences of Nova's story. She had been questioned about how she ended up fainting in the middle of the street and causing a four car collision ending with one driver dead and the others coming out with minimal injuries. One driver was well enough to call 911; entranced by the girl he almost ran over.

When Nova had passed the energy force field that surrounded the BL/I Facility, placed after the first time Gerard escaped, her hearing and sight were disabled by the shock of shattering the field. A defense tactic used by the facility in the event that a Prisoner were to escape so that the subject will become disoriented and confused to make it easier to capture and bring back.

"She fell back into unconsciousness Dr.", the nurse answered as she flipped through the details of her notes, "She has more to say I-"

"Dr. Ruth , the girl has woken up...She would like to speak now..." another nurse that had been watching Nova during her sleep notified Dr. Ruth and lead her to the girl's room where Nova was fiddling with the blanket on her legs. Bandages now soaked in blood covering her eyes. She flinched toward the sound of the door opening and foot steps, slightly shrinking back into the bed.

"Oh hello there Hun don't be scared. I'm Dr. Ruth" the doctor sat at the edge of the bed, " are you feeling better today? I hear you're ready to speak?"
Nova nodded slightly and disoriented one were the voice was coming from. She reached for the bandages covering her eyes "huh?"

"Oh, here lets get those bandages swapped put for fresh ones shall we, the swelling and redness is still strong for some reason. We can't find the source of the bleeding. We just figured out that whatever place you came from has blinded you with a very potent chemical we have never seen. We still don't know when you could get your sight back. A couple of days to maybe even never, we've never had a case like this. Now you do have a fracture in your leg, it could take six months at the least to heal." Dr. Ruth snaps and signals a nurse to remove the bandages. One nurse begins to untape the gauze from her eyes and the other drew the curtains and lowered the brightness of the florescent lights in the room so it would not hurt.

Nova's eyes squinted and she blinked a couple times. Something was wrong, very wrong. Nova saw nothing but black void. She was blind for the moment being."I-I" She began to panic. The nurse had to calm her down with a slight sedative.

Once calmed, Nova was then asked again what else she remembered."I don't remember anything before meeting that boy and escaping...The last thing I remember before going into the Facility" Nova lied. Dr. Ruth stared the sighed at Nova.

Dr. Ruth did not seem fazed or even surprised by her story " Listen, I know you might have hit your head in the accident but I need the truth of what happened. I can't enter my report if this is all you're telling me"The Doctor pinched the bridge of her nose.

Nova could not stop thinking that the Director of the Facility would make a sure fire way of recapturing her in a civil and orderly manor without the public known and raising questions.

She knew she had to get out of there. Even hurt, she would find a way to leave. She winced at the pain pulsing through her leg.

Several attempts and bruised elbows later, she sat in the wheelchair catching her breathe. Getting in a chair without the use of your legs and barely any arm strength left is better said than done.
The hall is empty, yet she can sense where to go. The squeak of her chair doesn't wake the security guard snoring loudly near the exit of the wing.Floor by floor she came across no one.

Over in the intensive care unit, the nurses were going haywire. Recently deceased patients were coming to live as monsters hungry for flesh.

"ALL STAFF REPORT TO YOUR STATIONS THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THERE HAS BEEN A MASS CONTAMINATION IN THE INTENSIVE CARE WING. LOCK DOWN ALL EXITS! " A man panicked over the intercom.
"Young lady! Stop right there and get back to your room!" A male nurse ordered from down the hall. Racked by murderous thoughts Nova did not stop moving down the hall. The nurse ran up to her and ordered her to return to her room, he didn't finish his sentence when the girl put a bullet in his head for the gun she swiped from that very sleeping guard she encountered on her way out of the ward.
