Chapter 8
*Mikey's POV*
I hear my name being screamed, as I walk toward my house, getting louder the closer I got. It sounds like Bandit, like, a lot like Bandit.
Then I see her running, I look behind her and don't see anything. What the hell?
She falls and I walk up behind her and put my hand on her shoulder. She looks up at me, startled and out of breath.
She looks almost as confused as I am.
We walk inside and go in the kitchen. She tells me what happened and although I keep my poker face, I'm relieved she's okay.
"Where were you?!" She demands, putting her hands on her hips.
"Somewhere..." I answer, fiddling with stuff on the counter.
"Fuck you Mikey, I'm going to bed," she says, flashing me the finger.
"I love you too," I call after her. What a daughter Gerard's raised.
A little while later I get a call from Gerard, I answer and can't but be a little taken back by what I hear.
"Hey baby brother," Gerard slurs.
"Gerard are you drunk??" I quietly yell so Bandit won't hear me.
"Maybe," he says, "look, how's Bandit?"
Probably better off than you, I think.
"She's fine,"
"Put her on, I wanna talk to her," he slurs, sounding like he's about to pass out.
"No, I'm gonna put her on the phone," I tell him.
"Why the fuck not? I'm her father!"
"Because you're drunk, Gerard! I'm not gonna let her know that her father-who's been clean since before she was even born-is drunk!"
Theres silence on the other end for a while, and I assume he's passed out when he finally says something that makes my stomach twist.
"I'm coming to get her,"
"Gerard no!"
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I am," he keeps slurring, he's really drunk.
Before I can say anything he hangs up, and I'm left sitting there like an idiot. Every thought has been ripped out of my head and I can't think. Gerard can't drive like that and I can't let him take Bandit back. I know he's her dad and all, but I think it's pretty obvious why I can't let him do that. I hope he's not coming now, I don't have time, and it's dark, and he's drunk.
"Mikey, what's wrong?" I look up and see Bandit looking at me with no expression at all.
What do I tell her? 'Oh your dad's just drunk and he's gonna kill himself trying to drive in the dark while intoxicated because of you' of course I can't say that.
"Nothing," I say getting up and walking past her.
"But you look worried?" She follows me into the living room.
"Uh. I. Just go to bed okay? Isn't it past your bedtime?"
She gives me a look.
"Seriously?"
"Yes, seriously just go!" I say, pointing towards the stairs.
She sighs and walks up the stairs with her arms crossed over her chest.
I sit down and hold my head in my hands. I'm not sure how much time has passed when I hear the doorbell ring. I see Bandit at the top of the stairs giving me a look saying she's thinking the same thing I am.
Who's gonna visit this late?
I hope it's not Gerard, I think as I walk to the front door. I take a big breath in before opening the door.
