I Have Loved You For A Thousand Years
My Way Home is Through You
My brother Mikey drove Frank and I into town. I sat in the passenger seat thinking about last night with Savannah the whole way. I couldn't have been happier. After all these years, and even through being married, she still loved me! What was there not to be happy about?
"Gerard," I heard Mikey say. I turned my gaze toward him and he smiled. "Why are you so chipper today? Did you get laid?" I felt my expression drop. He laughed.
"No," I said slowly, and turned to look back out the window. "I didn't. I just had a good time."
"He saw Savannah last night," Frank piped from the back seat. I slapped behind the seat blindly and got his knee. "Ya bitch," he laughed. I laughed and turned to Mikey, who had the most serious expression on his face. He almost looked mad.
"What?" I asked lightly. "It's not like we fucked," I assured. Mikey shook his head and looked back out the windshield as we pulled up at Starbucks for breakfast.
"I'm just warning you, I wouldn't mess with Drake Andrews if I were you. He's the most powerful attorney in the state." he warned.
"Mikey, there's nothing to worry about," I lied.
Mikey parked the car in front of the store and we all got out. Frank slapped my shoulder to get back at me for slapping his knee and I slapped his head. We both burst into laughed as we walked in. We stood in line and I couldn't help but notice these two hot women from behind. They looked really high maintenance. One was clad in pink, the other in black.
Frank nudged me with his elbow. "Man," he whistled, "Just look at those pieces of--"
"Excuse me!" The dark-haired one spun around. It was Savannah. "Frank?!" She squealed. "Mikey?? Gerard!" she walked over and embraced Frank, then Mikey, and finally me. Her friend rolled her eyes and Frank cat-called her.
"Savannah, I'm going to go shopping. Are you coming or not?" she asked. My mind flashed back to Lily on the counter last night and Savannah's husband's ass. She was a bitch. Savannah looked at me and I couldn't help but notice something was a little off about her face. Her complexion looked.. Different.
"I think I'm going to hang out with them today," she said, not turning her gaze away from me and biting her lip. I smiled back at her.
Lily sighed, "Whatever. See you later," she said as she pushed past Mikey and Frank, both of which turned around to check out her ass.
"She is hot," Frank said with a sigh. Savannah laughed loudly. Her laugh made me feel at home. She was exactly what I wanted. I missed her so much. I still couldn't believe she was here with me after all these years.
"Well?" she started. "Let's sit down," she said.
"Actually," Mikey started, nudging Frank. "Me and Frank have to do... stuff." he continued. "Gee, why don't you stay here? We can handle the shopping," I nodded and sat across from Savannah at a table.
"See you two later, call me!" I shouted after them. Frank held up his middle finger at me and Mikey promptly punched him. They walked out the door laughing.
"I miss them," Savannah said. "They were a good time. How are they?"
"They're great," I said. "They both live with me in a house downtown. We are actually having a small thing tonight if you wanna come," I studied her face as she looked down at the table. She definitely had swelling on her cheek and I thought I noticed a bruise. Without thinking, I reached across the table and brushed her hair back. She instinctively winced and flinched as if I were going to smack her. My heart broke right then. "No..." I whispered, my voice almost broken.
"It's nothing," she said quietly, "I said some mean things to him today, it was my fault. I sort of said something about Lily..." her words trailed off and she looked up at me, her beautiful eyes filling with tears. "It's been going on for about a year," she confessed. I held her face in my hands.
"Don't make excuses for that fucking asshole," I said. "He shouldn't be slapping you, no matter what you did. I'm gonna fucking--"
"No," she cut me off. "You can't say anything," she whispered, looking around as though somebody was watching us. I looked around the coffee shop, too, then back at her beautiful face. "He said he would kill me before I could divorce him... I would get half of his money," she whimpered. "He is going to kill me," I shook my head. The though of him hurting her again made my blood boil. She started crying and I stood up and helped her up.
""Let's get you out of here," I said softly.
We walked out to her car, which was a white Range Rover. Nice. I thought to myself. She really was doing well for herself. We got in the car and I gave her directions back to the house. I didn't say a word on the way there and neither did she. She reached over and grabbed my hand on my lap and held it, squeezing tightly. I looked over at her and she was smiling at me. That beautiful smile... How on earth could she be smiling after all of this?
