I Have Loved You For A Thousand Years
An Old Friend
I stood up and she squealed in excitement and threw her arms around me.
"I have missed you! How have you been??" she exclaimed. I froze.
"U-um great," I stammered, lying. She let go of me and stepped back a quizzical look on her face. "How have you been?" I asked. Wait, did she just say she missed me?
"Great!" She squealed. I couldn't help but check her out. She was wearing a bight red, tight dress that showed off her hourglass figure and her tan. Her breasts looked perfectly round and perky. She grabbed my arm and dragged me across the crowded bar and over to a table where sat the man who was taking her coat off at the door, and another woman who was blonde. She looked like a very wealthy woman, in fact, they all did.
"Gerard, this is Lily, my best friend, " she motioned to the blonde, who smiled and waved slightly. I waved back. What was Savannah doing? "Gerard," she continued, "this is Drake, my husband," she smiled and the man nodded at me. My stomach dropped. I knew I couldn't sit with them.
"I, uh.." my voice trailed as I started to feel sick. "I just remembered I have this thing," I turned around and moved past all the bodies, my shoulder knocking into someone else's every couple people.
"Watch it!!" People yelled as I walked out as fast as I could.
I made it outside and kept walking without looking back. "Gerard, wait!" I heard someone calling behind. I could hear heels on the sidewalk running after me. I spun around and there she was running toward me. I pictured her in high school briefly, running towards me for a hug.
She slowly came to a walk then a stop.
"What?" I asked sharply. "What were you trying to do back there? Show me how perfect your life is now that I'm out of the picture? Forget it." I turned around and started off. I felt her grab my arm at the elbow. I suddenly relaxed, heaving a sigh. She grabbed my shoulder and turned me to face her.
"No," she said softly. "That's not it at all, I... I've missed you and I'm hoping we can talk," she reasoned. "We have too much of a history to at least not be friends," Her words weighed heavily in my head. Friends? She smiled, revealing her pearly whites. We stood there for a second, staring at each other. She said a bruise on her left forearm, about the size of a thumb. She caught me looking and held her arms behind her back.
"So what do you say we get out of here?" she said suddenly. I chuckled.
"What?" I asked. She smiled.
"You heard me, Gee!" She half-shouted cutely, punching my shoulder.
"Won't your husband be mad you stood him up and left your friend?" I asked, worried. He was a pretty big guy. She walked up to me and wrapped her arms around my left arm.
"She will entertain him, trust me," she said confidently as she drug me down the sidewalk towards downtown. I smiled to myself. What was happening here? What was I getting myself into. I looked over at her and noticed her beaming towards me.
She was married... What, exactly, was I getting myself into?
