I Have Loved You For A Thousand Years
Reunion
I sat alone in a local bar called "The Lobo" downing my third glass of scotch. I was drinking slow--slow enough to where I had already been there about an hour and a half. The bartender, Joe, walked over to me and sighed. I kept my gaze on my glass as he spoke.
"Gerard, you can't be alone forever," He started. I shrugged. There really, truly wasn't anyone left for me. Not after Savannah. I can still smell her Givenchy perfume after 3 pain-staking years. I knew a proper, blue-blood like her couldn't love a guy like me.
"Really, you can do better," he continued. I guffawed and stood up, throwing what I had in my pocket. A one-hundred dollar bill for three glasses. Whatever.
As I turned to walk out, I heard a bright, clean, laugh. I quickly was taken back to all the kissing, the laughing, the love-making--all of it. Could it be?
I spun around quickly and there she was in the doorway, throwing her head back and laughing as a tall, handsome man in a business suit was sliding her heavy black fur coat off her shoulders. Her dark, auburn-tinted hair falling down in loose curls. She was so beautiful. I knew what I had to do.
I turned around quickly and sat down at the bar, hoping she wouldn't notice me. I pulled up my collar.
"Gerard?" I heard from behind. He voice was light and happy. "Is that you?"
I spun around on my bar stool and there she stood. She was even more beautiful than I remembered. I could smell that familiar perfume. Could she still possibly wear the same kind I had bought her all those years ago??
