The Only Exception (Lindsey and Gerard Way fan-fiction)
Chapter 1: Irish Twins
Lindsey P.O.V.
"I heard there's two new students coming!" Jennifer squealed as she ran to my locker.
"Really!? Do you know who they are!?" I asked her.
"They're two brothers. I heard Mrs. Isabel say to Mr. Ry." Jennifer said.
It's rare that we have new students in Bishop Peter high school. When we do, after a week here the whole school knows them because we are pretty small than public schools, but then again, this is a Catholic high school.
"What grade are they in?" I asked.
"Dunno. But I overheard Mr. Rocker and Sister Kate say that they are Irish twins!" Jennifer said.
"What type of Irish twins are you talking about?" I asked her.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"There's two definitions for 'Irish twins', Jen. One it can be Irish twin or it can be siblings that are born in the same year." I said.
"Dunno. I just know what I've heard." Jennifer shrugged.
"So are they coming today?" I asked her.
"Yeah. We better keep an eye out," she said.
"Jennifer our school only has two hundred students in here it's not that hard to spot a new student." I pointed out.
"True."
Jennifer went to her locker which was down the hall. I sighed and got my stuff ready for Foundation 3.
I saw Sister Mary, my theology teacher, and two guys follow her.
"And here is the Junior hallway, boys. If you need anything you can find me or Ms. Isabel." Sister Mary smiled at the two guys.
I knew these must be the new kids because one I have never seen them in the hallways and two because it is obvious because one of the dudes had shoulder length hair and that wasn't allowed in Catholic schools.
The shoulder-length-hair guy looked really shy. Well... they both did actually and I can guess why. They must not be used to the idea of going to a Catholic school, but it could be something else.
"If you need help with finding a classroom you can always ask you peer mates." She said to them.
If you are calling me an eavesdropper just know that I am in the Junior hallway and there's only nineteen of us out of thirty-six (now thirty-eight) and it was quite easy to hear a conversation if you wanted to.
"For the males it's Frank Iero and Jose Tapia and for females it's Lindsey Ballato and Cecilia Montez." Sister Mary smiled.
The other brother, the one with light brown hair, slender and tall, nodded. Sister Mary gave them their schedule and then started walking down the hallway.
I was entertain on how the brothers communicated with each other. The tall brother would say something to the brother with the long hair and long-haired brother would nod.
I wondered if he talked?
Before I realize it, I was tackled on the floor by someone.
"Lindsey!!!" Frank yelled into my ear.
Not surprised at all.
"Frank Iero why'd you do that for!?" I asked him, making the brothers turn around and see what was going on.
"For not being at the football game on Friday!" He said.
"Chill out dude. I just missed one and it's only September, dude." I said.
"But still!" He said.
"Get off of me please." I said as I saw he was still on top of me.
Frank got off me and helped me up. I dusted off my uniform skirt. Frank saw the new kids and smiled.
"Hi! You guys must be new! I'm Frank Iero and yes I am small for a Junior. Over here is my partner in crime and my bitch, Lindsey Ballato!" He said to the brothers.
"Really, Frank. Was that necessary." I said.
"No but I just wanted to say that." Frank smiled.
"Oh God." I muttered.
"Uh... I'm Mikey Way and this is my younger brother Gerard." The tall brother said.
Both of the brothers looked so different but at the same time looked the same. Well, the only thing they both had that was similar to each other was their jawlines and that was pretty much it.
I noticed right away that the other brother, Gerard, is a quiet type of guy. They both looked socially awkward by the way Mikey was standing and the way Gerard never looked up.
"Welcome to our school! We don't usually get new students and if we do then we get so happy you have no idea-" Frank began.
"Anyways, welcome. If you need help finding a class we're happy to help." I smiled at them.
"Thanks." Mikey said.
By now more of the Juniors started to head to their locker since there was a couple of minutes left before the bell rang.
"Do you guys know where your locker is?" I asked them.
"Uh... no not really..." Mikey said.
"Okay. We can help you." I smiled. Mikey handed his and his brother's schedule over to me which also has their locker number on it.
"241 and 242. That's across from mine." I smiled at them.
We walked to the tan lockers. They were pretty wide lockers and pretty old too. I'm pretty sure these are the original lockers that the school had since they opened in the early 1900's.
"Okay. Gerard has 241 and Mikey has 242." I said as I handed them their schedules.
"Thanks." Mikey murmured.
"No problem." I smiled looking at Mikey then to Gerard.
Gerard wasn't looking down for the first time. He was actually looking at me and when I saw him, he gave a really small smile and looked away while blushing.
I walked away to my locker with Frank following me like a puppy. When we were both down the other hallway where Jennifer's locker was, Frank began to talk.
"They seem quiet." Frank said.
"Yeah. I wonder why..." I asked myself.
"Looks like the Gerard kid seems to find you attractive." Frank smirked.
"Huh? Now you're just talking nonsense, Frank." I said.
"What, you don't think you're attractive!?" Frank asked.
"What. No, I mean that why are you saying the guy finds me attractive?" I asked him.
"Because he was looking at you." Frank said.
"Uh... everyone looks at me, dude." I pointed out.
"Yeah, but not everyone blushes like he did." Frank said.
"Maybe he just blushed because I smiled at him." I said.
Frank groanded. "Fine whatever you win. This is why you haven't dated yet." Frank muttered.
"Fuck you, Frank." I said.
"Please." Frank smiled.
"Horny bastard." I punched his arm.
"You said it not me." Frank laughed.
Before we both knew it the bell rang.
"Fuck and we didn't have time to visit Jennifer and Simon!" Frank said.
"Oh well guess we'll see them at first lunch. Bye Frankie." I said.
"Later my bitch."
"Frank."
"Sorry."
I headed to Foundation 3 on the end of a hallway that you have to turn in order to get there. When I came in I saw my good friend Rena and Robie.
"Hey, Lindsey!" Robie said.
"Hey Robs. How's your foot? I heard you broke it." I asked him.
Robie and Rena Spangler are twins. Robie plays football and Rena plays varsity volleyball with me.
Robie handed me a Sharpie. "Yes I did beak it, Lindsey. Want to sign it?" Robie smiled. I drew a quick sketch of Dracula saying "get well soon."
"Where were you on Friday? We missed you at the game." Rena said.
"Oh. I forgot to tell you that I had a concert to go to." I said.
"Really? Which band did you see?" Rena asked.
"Green Day!" I smiled.
"No way! Dude they didn't come to Jersey..." Robie said.
"I went to New York with my step-brother." I said.
"Vlad or Turtle?" Rena asked.
"Turtle. Vlad had a soccer game." I said.
My biological father left my mother when she was pregnant with me and in the whole journey my mom's best friend, Benjamin, but he goes by Chico, was there for her unlike my real 'father'. Chico had two sons before mom and him got married: Thomas but goes by Turtle, and Vladimir but goes by Vlad. Their mother died of cancer after Vlad was born. Some time after I was born mom and Chico started dating and then they married.
Turtle and Vlad are Irish Twins like Mikey and Gerard are. Turtle is older though.
Even though I know Chico isn't my biological dad, I call him my dad. At least he did step up unlike the bastard who left us.
"Did we win?" Rena asked.
"Yeah by two points." I said.
"That's good."
In came Gerard. Mr. Hathaway, our teacher, saw him and smile. He pull Gerard over to the side and I assume they talked about where he is going to sit.
"Is he the new kid we've been waiting for?" Rena whispered to me.
"Yeah."
"Why did I think we were having two new students." Rena asked.
"Beacause we do." I said.
"Who's the other one?" Robie asked.
"His brother." I said.
Everyone started to come in. And by everyone I mean two more students.
"Good morning class, we have a new student today. Mind telling us who you are." Mr. Hathaway asked Gerard.
He nodded and stood in the middle of the class.
"Uh... my name is G-Gerard Way." Gerard muttered. He closed his eyes, waiting for something. He opened his eyes and looked around the room.
"Y-you guys aren't going to laugh?" Gerard asked. He is very quiet when it comes to talking.
"No, why would we do that?" Robie asked.
"B-because I-I can't speak r-right...," he muttered.
"Mr. Way, all of these kids were really shy when they introduce themselves. Lindsey didn't even talk on the first day." Mr. Hathaway said.
"Actually Mr. Hathaway I puked." I said.
"And I was the one who didn't talk." Ruby Struzzo said.
"So Mr. Way, no need to fear in this school. We're all nice here." Mr. Hathaway said.
For the first time since Gerard came in here he didn't look... scared. Well, he was probably a little bit scared, but not as much when he came in.
Mr. Hathaway pointed to the empty chair next to me. "That will be your seat." He said.
Gerard came and sat down next to me. I didn't know if he was scared of me or if he was scared of the whole world. But I don't like the person who made him be like that. No one should be scared to talk.
"Hi." I smiled.
"H-hey." He muttered.
"Let me introduce myself. I'm Lindsey Ballato but I'm pretty sure Sister Mary mentioned me." I said.
"Yeah... s-she said you're something b-bout peer?"
"It's a group of people in each grade that you can basically trust them. Like if you're going through a tough time and you want to talk to someone we're the ones, and we won't say it to anyone." I said.
Gerard nodded. Mr. Hathaway began to teach the class. Halfway into the class I got really hot. I raised my hand up.
"Yes Lindsey?"
"May I take my sweater off." I asked him.
The reason why I ask him is because I have an arm-sleeve tattoo and we were suppose to cover our tattoos if we did have them.
"Yes you may," he said and resume his teaching.
I took my sweater off. Feeling the cool air of the window AC hit my arms.
When Mr. Hathaway finished teaching the lesson, he told us to draw what we liked to. He headed to his desk and started playing Nirvana.
When I was drawing my willow tree, I noticed Gerard looking at my arm.
"You like tattoos?" I asked him.
"Huh? Uh.. yeah... I-I haven't seen an arm sleeve before." He muttered and looked down at his paper. "Sorry..."
"It's fine, Gerard. You can trace it if you want. Sometimes when I get bored I trace it with my finger." I said.
"Thanks." He murmured.
I smiled and continued to work on my drawing.
"W-why are you guys nice to me?" Gerard asked in his quiet voice.
"Why wouldn't we?" I asked and he shrugged. "In your other school. Did they really treat you that badly?" I asked him.
Gerard looking into my eyes for the first time. "H-how'd you know?" He asked me.
"That happened to me too when I was a freshman. They beat me up everyday and one day they really went too far and now I'm in a Catholic school." I said.
"Oh... I guess we have a lot of things in common... so far..." Gerard whispered.
"Hey. Want to come to my volleyball game Wednesday? It's after school and it's a home game." I said.
"Uh... S-sure." He said.
"You can bing your brother." I said.
"Okay. I'm sure he'll want to come." Gerard murmured.
"So Gerard, are you a man of sports?" Robie asked him.
"Uh... no." Gerard murmured. He hesitated a lot with the answer, as if he was scared to say something wrong.
"Are you an art type of guy then?" Robie asked.
"Y-yes?" Gerard answered.
"Don't be afraid to be who you are, Gerard. We won't judge." Robie said.
"Yeah. We're all pretty nice. Sure you're going to have your typical assholes but there's just one in the whole school." Rena said.
"Mainly because we're one small school." Robie said.
"But yeah. In the end we're pretty nice." I said.
The bell rang.
"Aw I don't want to go to Spanish." Robie complained.
"Why didn't you take it during Freshman year then." Rena said.
"Because I didn't Rena." Robie said and they both started complaining as they left the room.
"Are they siblings?" Gerard asked me.
"Yeah. Twins." I said.
"Uh, can you help me find this class." Gerard said as he showed me his schedule.
"Pre-calculus with Sister Kate. That's my next class." I said.
"R-really!?" Gerard asked.
"Yep. We can walk over there together if you want. I just have to get my book from my locker." I said.
Gerard and I walked to the Junior hallway, side by side.
As we did, I noticed Gerard glancing at me a few times, but I could be wrong. For all I know he could just be looking at the random drawings and posters of upcoming events. Mostly about bullying awareness week, which was exactly two weeks from today away.
Gerard went to his locker and I went to mine and we quietly started to walk to Sister Kate's class.
"So Gerard, do you remember who you were shadowing?" I asked him.
If you were new to this school, you had were shadowing a student from here.

Shadowing a student means that you are here a whole school day with a student here and that you are following the student everywhere. I'm not good at explaining these sort of things but the whole point of Shadowing is to see if you like the school or not.

"My Ray Ray shadowed you. Sorry, I call him Ray Ray but his name is Ray Toro." I said.

"I think I've might of seen you too... did you have a bruised eye when you Shadowed?" I asked him.
"Yeah..."
"Yeah I've seen you. Mind asking how you got it?" I asked.
"N-no. I got beat up." He said.
"I'm sorry that happened." I said, not wanting to ask him anymore of the beat up because by the look he had on, it must've been one massive beat up and who knows what might of happen.
"I-it's not your fault that-, i-it just wasn't your fault." Gerard stuttered.
"Hey, if those guys ever come and beat you up like that then call me so I can hunt them down and hit 'em where it hurts." I said.
Gerard gave a small laugh. "I will. And thanks, too." He said.
"Why thank me?" I asked him as we turned the corner to the stairs.
"F-for being my f-friend?" Gerard said, turning it to a question in the end as if not sure that I wanted to be his friend at all.
I smiled. "Yes I am your friend and I will always be your friend." I said.
"I heard there's two new students coming!" Jennifer squealed as she ran to my locker.

"F-for being my f-friend?" Gerard said, turning it to a question in the end as if not sure that I wanted to be his friend at all.
I smiled. "Yes I am your friend and I will always be your friend." I said.
Notes
So there isn't a lot if fan fictions of Lindsey and Gerard Way, so I am making one myself. In this story Gerard and Mikey are Irish twins which are siblings that are nine months apart. I made Mikey be the older brother and his birth month in March while Gerard's in December.
Not sure if there is a Catholic high school call Bishop Peter but if there is there is, this is all made up and has nothing to do with the real school.
I don't know Lindsey had played any sports in high school but here she plays varsity volleyball and is in band along with Gerard.
Gerard in this story is really shy and this has effected his speech, making him stutter a lot and have a really quiet voice when he talks.
So the thing about Gerard almost dying because of a beat-up in this other school that'll come later on in the story.
Anyways this is my third (does it count if it's a sequel with two books) book I've written about Lindsey and Gerard and this is all fake not real. But you already know that.
You need to update! This is amazing!!!
