Another Way

Chapter 2

Alicia’s POV
“Where the hell is she?” Chris asked angrily. “She’s ten minutes late.”
“Relax, man. She’ll be here in a minute,” Travis said, trying to diffuse the situation somewhat.
Chris sighed in frustration – he was in no way patient enough for this.
“I’m so sorry I’m late, you guys,” I apologized, running in. Yes, I heard Chris having his little fit and I was trying to appease the hothead. It was never a good idea to get him worked up – let alone before you even showed up to work. “I seriously slept in and then the traffic…”
“It’s alright,” Sonny assured me with a small smile and I smiled back gratefully. Of all the guys in the band, I liked Sonny best. He was a really nice guy and he always had my back. We understood each other and that’s what made us such good friends.
“Can we start now?” Chris asked irritably. It was probably gonna take a while for the pole to be removed from his ass.
“Yeah, yeah,” Matt grumbled. “Keep your pants on.”
Sonny shrugged and moved aside so I could take in my usual spot and tune my bass before we started practicing.
Chris wasn’t satisfied with anything though. After changing the bridge to Losing You about six times – the last ending up the same as the original – he was finally satisfied with that, but the rest of us were kind of pissed off. That’s why the tension was running pretty high when we finally finished around two thirty. During practice he kept yelling at me over nothing I seemed to be doing wrong, but that was nothing new. I was seriously fed up with his shit and demanded an explanation.
“What’s your damn problem?” I was maybe a little proud of how strong and fierce my voice sounded. Good. I was standing my ground. I wasn’t gonna let this diva get to me.
You’re my problem. First you show up late, and then you keep making mistakes through the entire session. You better pull your act together, otherwise we’ll have to replace you,” Chris retorted. What a dick!
“Fuck you!” I shouted in response. I was doing them a favor by filling in for their original bass player. I didn’t have to put up with his crap.
He opened his mouth to say something, but Sonny chipped in. “Chris, shut up! You’re the one who has to get his act together, not Alicia. And no one is getting replaced.”
“I’m just saying that she is ruining this for all of us,” Chris continued regardless of his chewing out. Seriously. What the fuck is the dude’s problem?
“I’m out of here,” I stated leaving. Clearly he was having an off day and not helping my not so great day either. “Call me when you decide to grow the fuck up!”
“See you tomorrow,” Sonny called after me.
“What crawled up your ass and died?” I heard Matt ask Chris angrily. “You can’t take your issues out on Alicia.”
“I’m not taking my issues out on her. She was at fault…” he retorted.
“Bullshit!” Derek piped in. “You’re just in a terrible mood, and now she had to take the brunt of it.”
“Whatever!” It was Sonny’s turn to add into the conversation. “Let’s just forget about it, okay?”
I had to remember to buy them chocolate for sticking up for me like that.

*
I got home and slammed the door behind me. I practically stormed into the bedroom, falling down on the bed in disgust.
Asshole! Who the hell did he think he was?
I groaned in frustration. Maybe I would’ve reacted differently if I hadn’t been playing completely hung-over almost all day long. For all I knew, I probably did screw up a lot and he was right to be upset. That did not lighten up my mood at all. Besides, I couldn’t have been that bad – Sonny Matt and Derek would have said something then too. Granted, they would’ve had a bit more finesse.
I’m so tired! I barely got any sleep last night, I had too much to drink and a long day to top it all off. Those three were definitely a bad combination.
After a minute or two I pulled out my cell phone and scanned through the long list of numbers. I wasn’t exactly sure who I was looking for until I saw it. My thumb lingered over the name as I contemplated calling him. Why was I going to call him? What was I going to say to him when he got here if he even came? Was I just randomly going to invite him over? I didn’t even really know the guy.
I decided to ignore everything telling me not to do it and called Gerard to invite him over. Again.
It wasn’t long before there was a knock on the door, and I almost immediately opened it. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t waiting at the door for him to arrive. Gerard stood there with a questioning look on his face, clearly wondering what he was doing at my apartment once again.
I didn’t have the time or the will to explain and figured that actions spoke a lot louder than words. I grabbed his collar and pulled him inside. I pushed him against the door and kissed him. I expected him to push me away or show even the least bit of resistance, but instead he kissed me back. The kiss deepened until we were making out fiercely in my living room. Soon we ended up back in the bedroom – in bed. At least this time I was sober.
I was just so glad he knew not to ask me whether I was sure I wanted to do this. It was painfully obvious that we both desperately wanted it. It doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a gentleman, though. We took our time discarding my clothes, along with his own, and he proceeded to caress and worship every inch of my body thoroughly – to the point where I was begging him to stop being such a tease. He complied. By that point, he wasn’t much of a gentleman anymore. At all. And that I was extremely grateful for.

Gerard’s POV I lay back and Alicia cuddled up to me. It was crazy. Twice now I’ve slept with her, despite the fact that I don’t really know her. She was pretty – long black hair and a pair of brown eyes. She was actually quite beautiful, but that still didn’t explain any of this. It didn’t explain why she called me, or why we simply jumped in bed together. What were we doing?
I rolled onto my side and supported my head with my hand.
“Why did you call me?” I asked, looking down at her curiously. She looked good with her hair all disheveled and her eyes sparkling the way they did right now. I didn’t see that this morning or a few moments ago. I couldn’t resist pulling my fingers gently through her hair.
“I thought it was pretty obvious,” she replied, looking at me shyly.
“Yeah, but why me? And why this?” My hand motioned between the two of us – as if that would explain everything.
Alicia sighed quietly before answering. “I’ve had the worst possible day, and I needed something, or someone, to cheer me up. For some unexplainable reason your name came into my head. Maybe I thought you would understand and not ask any questions.”
I lay back and chuckled lightly. “So, you just used me.”
“What?” she gasped in surprise. “No, I didn’t… I didn’t mean to… I just…”
I laughed at the mortified expression on her face. “I’m just messing with you. Chillax.”
It seemed to take her a few seconds to process what I said and then finally, she sighed relieved. “You know, I didn’t even think of it that way, but now that you mention it – I am actually using you.”
“Who says that I’m not the one using you?”
She frowned, causing me to burst out laughing again. “You should see the look on your face.”
She shook her head also laughing now.
“So, tell me about this horrible day of yours.”
“Oh,” she said, rolling her eyes. “Don’t even get me started. First, I wake up next to a stranger, which is terrible, but it turned out not to be so terrible, after all. Then I’m late for band practice, and this asshole, Chris, nearly bites my head off over it. The entire day he kept yelling at me, and just got on my nerves. He even threatened to kick me out of the band. The jerk forgot that I’m only helping them fill the gap in their band anyway. He should thank his lucky damn stars that I stick around after the hell he gave me today. Anyway, I got fed up and left. That’s when I called you, and the rest of my day just brightened up. You, Gerard, have a talent.”
That definitely sounded like quite a day. No wonder she needed something to unwind all her nerves. I could have been an asshole, and fixate on the “talent” remark, but I decided to take more interest in her shitty day.
“You’re in a band?” I asked, remembering that she mentioned band practice or something of the sort.
“Yeah, From First To Last, but I’m just filling in for their original bass player. He’s off… somewhere, I’m not even sure.”
“I’ve heard of them. That’s cool.”
She nodded, “What do you do?”
I smiled, “You wouldn’t believe me. I’m also in a band…”
She thought for a second, and then her eyes grew wide, “Now I know where I know you from. You’re Gerard Way, from My Chemical Romance.”
I smiled and nodded.
She smiled, “Wow. I’ve actually heard some of your music from my roommate. She’s actually a huge fan, and even got me singing along to most of it. I can’t believe I didn’t recognize you sooner.”
“Please don’t go all fan girl on me now.”
She laughed, “Don’t worry. I’m not that crazy.”
“Good.”
We grinned at each other. I decided that I pretty much love seeing her grin like that, for some reason.
“So, can I interest you in round two? Or would you prefer a cup of coffee?”
“I thought we just finished round two?” I smirked – not declining the offer, though.
Her mouth opened, but nothing came out. I had her speechless once again. I flashed her a sultry smile, reaching out a hand to pull her face closer to mine and brushing my lips against hers. I felt her relax into the kiss, leaning into my touch ever so slightly. It was just amazing how we seemed to fit so comfortably with each other – like we’ve been friends or lovers all our lives.
“I take it round three is a go?”
“Oh, fuck, yeah,” I breathed, before properly closing the gap between our lips.
Not even a single complaint there.
