Chapter 1
Emma P.O.V
It was two months into my senior and I was already done with high school. Graduation couldn’t come fast enough. I was bored with almost all of my classes and tired of seeing the same dull people every single day.
This is the thought that was going through my head as I trudged into my first period class, early as usual, and prepared to take my favorite seat in the far right corner.
I stopped dead in my tracks. Someone I had never seen before was sitting in my usual seat.
Really? A new kid? Now? But it’s two months into senior year!
Feeling excited by the presence of a new face, but annoyed that he had taken my favorite spot; I quietly took the seat next to him.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes, but it felt awkward to ignore him since there was nobody else in the room, so I turned to face him and extended my hand.
“Hi! You must be new. My name is Emma.”
He seemed shocked that someone was talking to him and just sat there looking at my hand blankly for a few seconds. I was beginning to feel very uncomfortable when he slowly and shyly wrapped his hand around mine and shook it.
“Um, yeah. I’m Gerard”
His hand was very warm and also much bigger than mine. Holding it sent an electric shock through my whole body.
What’s going on? I don’t even know him, so why do I feel like this?
“Well, welcome to the school. I wish I could tell you that there was something special about this particular institution, but it’s pretty much just a normal boring high school.”
He laughed lightly, loosening up a little bit.
“Yeah, I kind of figured. But hopefully I’ll like it here.” He replied.
At this point other students began slowly filtering into the room. We smiled at each other and then turned toward the front of the class as the teacher began to drone on about some book that we were supposed to read.

As the bell rang signaling the end of class and everybody started to gather their things and head out, Gerard tapped me on the shoulder.
“Hey... could you uh, show me where room 326 is? This school is kind of big, and I don’t want to get lost on my way there.” He said, looking a little embarrassed.
“Oh, sure! No problem.” I said, grabbing my bag and leading the way out the door.
While we were walking together, I tried to get a good look at him. I hadn’t noticed before, but he was actually very handsome. He was about 6 inches taller than me with clear, pale skin, messy black hair, and striking hazel eyes underneath well-defined eyebrows. His build was slight, but not completely without muscle. His was dressed on the darker side, sporting a black button-down with the sleeves rolled up, skinny jeans, and black boots. As I looked closer, I could see the remnants of something written in black sharpie on his arm.
“What?” I heard him say nervously and I realized that I had been staring at him for about 5 minutes.
“Huh? Oh, um, nothing.” I said quickly, blushing, embarrassed at having been caught.
“Well, here we are!” I said cheerfully as we reached our destination.
“Thanks for showing me how to get here. I’ll see you around, Emma.” He said with a smile as he entered the classroom.
I walked to my next class, heart fluttering with excitement.
His smile is adorable.
I was so excited to have met someone new and was so engrossed in my own thoughts that I didn’t even notice how quickly the rest of the day went. Before I knew it I was walking out to my car, free.
