"If I'm going to Hell, you're coming down with me."
Chapter 11
Frank woke up several times, each barely opening his eyes to see what was happening before closing them again. After a while, Gerard woke up. He rolled over to his side and brushed back part of Frank’s hair. Slowly, he parted the hair away until Frank’s neck was bare, and then gently kissed his neck, before slowly moving up to his lips. Gerard softly kissed him, and Frank opened his eyes and they smiled at each other tiredly, and kissed again when the moment was shattered by a terrified scream.
Frank and Gerard both jumped, knocking their heads into each other. Standing at the doorway was Mikey. Mikey's eyes widened in horror, and in his eyes, Frank and Gerard could clearly see that Mikey was going to need psychological help and a damn good therapist for at least the next 5 years.
Before anyone could say anything, Mikey shouted "this isn't what I meant when I said you'd like each other!" Then he ran away.
Gerard and Frank looked at each other.
"Should we do something?" Frank asked. Gerard paused and then shook his head.
"That'd probably make everything worse."
"I feel like we just shattered his innocence."
"We probably just did." Gerard leaned closer to Frank and kissed him. "But what's done is done." He added with a grin, kissing Frank again, longer, leaving a lingering feeling on Franks lips. They kissed one more time, but midway through, Frank yawned, which made Gerard laugh.
“I’m tired.” Frank explained. Gerard looked over at the clock.
“Yeah, it’s only 7:00. Mikey deserves to be scarred for life if he thinks it’s okay to wake people up this early.” Frank laughed. They both fell back onto the bed and, just like the night before, put their arms around each other and went back to sleep.
They got up a few hours later and got changed. They stayed together the entire morning, never once leaving each others’ side. In fact, the entire morning Gerard kept his arm around Frank, refusing to let him go, but Frank didn't mind. The warmth of it felt safe, comforting.
But as soon as he got home, the horrible feeling came back. What are you, crazy?? How could you do that, Frank??" he thought. Frank moaned and pressed his hands against his head, trying to forget what had happened.
Calm down. It’s a onetime thing. Gerard will forget about it. I’m sure he already forgot. But it wasn't: on the contrary, the next day Gerard called him and asked him to come hang out. Frank tried to say "I'm busy, Gerard, I'm going out with a GIRL tonight," he added, praying Gerard would take the hint.
Gerard didn’t, "Yeah, I've got this song that I want to show you, I'll be right over, come on." He said, ignoring Frank’s requests for him to stay home. Gerard came over and Frank finally agreed to go on a walk with him. Frank was determined to tell Gerard that he was straight and that the other night was a mistake and so on, but as soon as they were together he forgot about the entire thing. They walked around the chilly neighborhood, clinging onto each other to keep warm, with Gerard leaning his head on Frank’s shoulder. After a while, Gerard locked his arms around Frank’s neck and buried his head in Frank’s hair, kissing him and, forgetting everything, Frank reached up and took one of Gerard’s hands before turning to face him and they both kissed again.
It soon became the same for the next two weeks. Gerard persisted for Frank to hang out, and they’d be together. Gerard always kept his arms around Frank and was always kissing him. But when they were together, Frank would kiss him too, without thinking. One night even, Mikey, Frank and Gerard had been watching a movie, when Mikey and Gerard both fell asleep, Gerard with his head on Frank’s shoulder. Frank kept his arms around Gerard. And after a while, he started kissing Gerard's face gently, moving to his hair, down his cheeks, and then to his lips until Gerard woke up, smiling.
Mikey seemed to have gotten over what had happened, but refused to go into Gerard's room, saying "this room is tainted for me now." In private, he told Frank that while he was ‘sickened’ and ‘disturbed’ by the ‘fucked up situation’ he wouldn’t say anything against it, because he was just happy that Gerard was happy.
One thing Mikey noticed though, almost immediately, was how Frank seemed to obviously wish that Gerard was a girl. It was the way Frank wanted Gerard to keep his hair down, the way Frank seemed very uncomfortable when someone brought into light that Gerard was actually a boy, and so on. Frank seemed almost scared of that fact. Gerard seemed to notice that too, and seemed hurt by it, but mainly ignored it. Gerard constantly wanted to impress Frank, and that was weird enough to see. Gerard washed his hair more often, so it wasn’t greasy anymore, and he started keeping a pack of cigarettes in his pocket too, and whenever he saw Frank, he'd also smoke one, letting it dangle out of his mouth, posing for him. It was obvious to everyone that Gerard just wanted to be perfect for Frank. And when they were together, Gerard would always put his arms around Frank, refusing to let go of him, just because he wanted to keep Frank close to him.
One night, Frank was getting ready for bed, when he heard a knocking on his window. He turned and there stood Gerard, grinning and waving.
"Gerard! Are you fucking insane?” But he was smiling too as he opened the window and helped Gerard in.
"It's three floors. What happened if you fell?"
"I didn't though." Gerard said. He threw his arms around Frank and kissed him. Frank laughed.
"What is this, Romeo and Juliet?"
"You're pretty enough to be Juliet." Gerard said.
"Am not." Frank objected. Gerard kissed Frank again, and then laughed, leaning against him for support.
"I am SO high right now." Gerard said. He reached into his pocket and took out a bag of some more pot. "Try some."
"I can't, Gerard! My parents are gonna be home soon!"
"So?"
Gerard turned on Frank’s radio and started dancing around. Frank kept laughing at how ridiculous Gerard looked, and Gerard went up behind Frank, sticking his head out slightly as he paused the joint.
"For me?" he asked, with a mocked pout.
"No."
Gerard switched sides.
"Please?"
"No!" Frank said, laughing
Gerard switched sides again, nuzzling his neck.
"I can keep this up all day..." He warned his eyes bright. Finally, Frank smoked some with him and the two of them started dancing around together, stumbling around, cracking up and whenever they got close enough, kissing.
The dancing didn’t last too much longer, as they were very close to the bed.
Afterwards, they got changed and the two of them fell back onto the floor. Gerard wrapped his arms around Frank, burying his face in his hair. Frank held one of Gerard's hands, running his fingers over it, and then leaned his head against Gerard's chest.
"I wish we could just lie here forever." Frank mumbled. Gerard nodded.
They stayed like that, holding onto each other, when they heard Franks parents come in. Gerard knew he had to leave. He climbed out the window, ready to jump to the tree and get down, when he stuck his head back in to see Frank.
"See you tomorrow?"
"Definitely."
Gerard leaned in and they kissed again. Frank laughed.
"Parting is such sweet sorrow." He said.
"What the fuck is that from?"
"How did you even pass English?"
Gerard laughed and reached out again and once more, they kissed, but it lingered this time, them pressing their foreheads gently against each others. Gerard kissed him one last time, and then finally broke away. He grinned. “See you tomorrow.” He said.
“Yeah, tomorrow.” Frank repeated. He stuck his head out the window and watched Gerard climb down to the ground and then leave, both of them waving one last time to each other.
