Can't Trust a Girl in Blue

Chapter 7 - Lowlife

The girls are all packed. And walking with what little they own towards the park that Kat promised they would visit. Even if she wasn’t planning on leaving for another two days, but what other choice did she have? Still no plan on any place of shelter for her and her sister.

“Where are we gonna stay now Kat?” Echo asks looking at her older sister.

“I’m not sure yet.” Kat replies looking at the ground in front of her as she walks.

“Then where are we heading to?”

“It’s a surprise.” Kat smirks. Knowing though that it isn’t a good thing that they are on the streets poor or that they are walking alone only in search of a park they vaguely know the location of. But she pushes the thoughts away and carries on. Walking slow, for her sister was getting distracted by their surroundings.

A man walks out of a restaurant with an umbrella, and opens it up as he walks passed them. A younger girl across the street walks around the corner wearing a hood, hands in her pockets, walking quickly. Clouds in the sky begin to look very black.

“Kat? Is that rain coming?” she looks at her older sister concerned.

“That it is. We need to hurry before we get soaked.” She says as she picks up their belongings higher off the ground and starts running down the street, looking for anywhere that looks empty enough for them to stay in for the night. Kat peeks behind making sure that Echo is still following close. She sees a smashed windowed house with what looks like a good roof. Till she peeks in and rats run all over. Nope. Keeps running and notices she only hears her own footsteps. Stops and looks behind her. Echo’s not following.

“Echo?!” Kat calls out as she begins to run the way she came. “Echo?!” she shouts again.

“I’m here!” Echo calls back in the distance. Kat looks in the direction of the voice, spotting her light blue shirt in with the trees. “There is a path here. We should follow it.”

“This is a waist. I doubt there is anything back there.”

“Just trust me this one time.” Echo says firmly looking her older sister in the eyes.

“Okay.” Kat agrees and nods at the same time. They then begin running down the tight path between the trees.

Then the path opens to a big opening. A huge abandoned school sits in the opening. Trees and other plants overgrown, hiding the school well.

“This looks perfect” Echo says smiling big, “Never been in a school before.”
