Give 'Em Hell, Kid

The Genius Deduction

“The number of recorded disappearances has declined as police come closer to the culprit of a string of murders throughout New York and New Jersey.” The woman on the television said. ‘If Skylar was here, she’d know what to do.’ Mikey thought to himself.

“According to preliminary DNA testing on the dark hair found at one of the latest killings, a primary suspect would be a caucasian male, with dark brown to black hair approximately four to six inches long. The suspected age would be in the late twenties to mid thirties.” Of course, Ray couldn’t help overhearing this small tidbit of information on his way to get a glass of water. His mind went back to the year 2006, where murders stopped as he killed his best friend’s fiancée. Frank had been there, hadn’t he? Yes... he quite remembered now. Frank had taken the gun he’d used for a horrible deed. The murders had all started once again when Frank had gone out one night with Gerard and Mikey, hadn’t they? Oh, now he was just being preposterous. Mikey, Gerard, Frank... they weren’t like that cold-hearted murderer he’d gotten rid of... no, someone had just followed in the internet legacy she’d left. Plus, they were going out with Damian. No kind of person would drag a child into this madness, would they? Skylar had... but then again, she suffered from severe insanity! Oh, he must stop now. He’ll kill someone innocent... he’d be just like them! But what if he’s correct?

“Come along, Damian. We’re going out for ice cream.” Frank said robotically. He was making sure no one suspected him, for even if Gerard found out, he would certainly kill him.

“Are we really?” Damian replied, wondering which ice cream Frank meant. They certainly hadn’t had fun like they used to for a while... Damian wanted that fun once again.

“Yes. What flavor do you think you might like?” Frank grabbed Damian’s hand, leading him towards the car. He was only partially aware of Ray watching their every move from behind the small bushes in front of the house.

“I want vanilla!” Damian replied excitedly, clapping his hands together. Frank smiled at the small child, wondering how much time he would have with him, and how he might never get to see his own children grow.

“That’s very nice. Perhaps I’ll get vanilla as well.” Frank said, starting the car. Ray was still watching.

“Is it very yummy?” Ray heard Frank ask Damian. Poor small child, having to be led around by a killer. Ray was near positive it was Frank. All signs pointed to him, how could grief blind him for these years? The way his body stiffened when they’d revealed the killer’s age, race, and gender. They were too general for another person to get riled up about. Lots of people look as described. Ray knew that Frank’s DNA was already in the criminal database, from the time he was arrested for murder as a teenager. Skylar and Frank had a past together as well! How could he have not seen it sooner? It was so obvious... he just needed a conformation on the identity... the police’s results would come in soon enough... as for now, why not share his findings with his friends? Surely they would agree with his observations! Ray was such a genius... he’s figured it all out with not a single bit of help.

Oh Ray...

How does this not have more recognition? I love the way you made them all so twisted - and Mikey being so secretive. You are a great writer, and this is a great story.. but what happens afterwards? You just kind of ended it when there's so much story to go.. Either way, thank you for providing my pre-sleep horror. It's so hard to find a good horror fic.
