Chapter Four: All's Sunny with a Chance of 'Screw You'

Chapter Four: All’s Sunny with a Chance of 'Screw You'

As Frank was on his journey to school, he once again came across the young Way, waiting on the school bus.

“Hey Way!” Gerard’s head instantly flicked up and his features relaxed once he realized it was Frank.
“Hi!” He waved and Frank crossed the road.
“You know, it’s better to just walk. That bus has been around since who knows when and now a days it sucks dick, so you’re better off with the little exercise.” Frank informed him. He nodded. “Noted.”

The boys turned on their heels and started walking to school. An awkward silence fell over the pair as they walked, so they just looked at any blessed thing in the opposite direction…that is until Frank’s phone rang. Wait...Frank had a phone? Damn Chippy!

Frank pulled out the device and answered it. “What.”
“Ooh looks who’s seeing their period.”
“Shuddup. Just…what do you want?”

“So, you may get called with instructions today, I’m not quite sure. But G contacted me so expect a text or something…and DON’T DESTROY MY PHONE!”

“Your phone?” Frank asked in disbelief. “If it was yours then what the heck is it doing in my freaking school bag.”

“Come on Frankie don’t be like that. Anyway, I’d let you know what’s going on.”
“Whatever. Go away.” Frank was moving to hang up the phone and he could still hear Chippy screaming fast words in a jumble.
“And please don’t throw awaymyphoneITCOSTMONEY!-“Beep.

Frank sighed and kept walking, momentarily forgetting about Gerard who was dead silent. “Come on little one you don’t want to get lost.” He teased, turning around to face him and walking backwards. Gerard just shook his head and laughed.
“Yes. You’re right. Especially since the school is like 3 steps away.” As soon as the words left Gerard’s mouth Frank tripped up on the first step that led up to the schools entrance. “…literally.” Gerard added. Frank sucked his teeth and kept walking.

“B*tch” He mumbled, making Gerard laugh.
“I heard that.”

“Hi boys!” They heard fake-flirtatious laughter and turned to their left to see Stephanie leaning against some shrubs that tried to decorate the staircase. Apparently the little greenery was supposed to look nice, honestly, it looked like someone got paid too much.
“Hi Stephanie.” They said in unison, knowing exactly where she was going with this.
“Sooo…” Frank just shook his head and Gerard laughed, attempting to change the topic.

“Where did you just appear from, I mean you just-“
“I know what you’re trying Way. It’s not going to work.”
“Hey! Hey! I tried okay?” Frank chuckled at them and kept walking when Stephanie waltzed right up to him and slung a heavy arm over his shoulder.
“Okay Steph, no need to emphasize that you’re taller than me by a few centimeters.”
“Inches.” She corrected.

“Pshh. Whatever Combat Barbie.”
“Pansy.”

Frank stuck a tongue out at her and she did the same. Gerard then clapped his hands. “Okay children. Nuff play. Time to work.” They both groaned at the mention of work then separated to their lockers, exchanging a quick ‘meet up at break’ by way of confirmation.

Gerard and Stephanie’s lockers were down the hall and around a corner, next to each others. Frank actually kind of liked that it was so far away from them. That way he got a small chance to be alone and get his thoughts organized. He double checked the time table he stuck at the back of his locker.

First period-Chemistry: Room 4.1

He grabbed the textbook and a notebook and shoved it in his bag before turning around to come face to face with a wide-eyed Stephanie. He took a short, sharp breath and held the locker for support not to shit himself.

“Steph, you scared the living shiznitz out of me!” He screamed, although she did literally take his breath away with her damn near perfect smile and face. She laughed at him.

“Oh you’re such a drama queen. Anyway, here!” She handed him a small envelope and spoke while he opened it. “I never got to thank you properly for finding my necklace..soo, it’s just something I thought you might need.” She shrugged.

“Steph you know you really didn’t have to right.” A grin plastered her face, the closer he got to opening the envelope, which was oddly stuck pretty tightly together.
“Oh hunni. It’s my pleasure.” She said and then Frank pulled out the contents. His face dropped to a sarcastic poker face.
“Really?”

She laughed.“Bye Frank! See you at 'break'!” He looked up to see her quoting the word 'break' before leaving with a wave over her shoulder. He hung his head and sighed hard, shoving the little ‘present’ in his locker. He shook his head and laughed, murmuring to himself.

“Really Steph…glow in the dark condoms.” He just shook his head and slammed the locker door shut.

……………

Frank and Stephanie sat and the cafeteria table closer to the back of the cafeteria. They liked this seat because it was far enough in a corner to not be noticed. But Frank liked the seat because he could notice everything from there. There was a huge window where you could easily see the carpark and even a little way down the street, but most of the view was obscured by trees. Also he could scan the whole cafeteria from there, and there was a window in front of him where he could catch the reflection of the table behind him, the last table to the wall actually.

Stephanie sighed as she ate the Quinoa pilaf she brought for lunch, but decided to eat it at recess.
“Where’s Gerard?” She asked. Frank shrugged.
“Dunno. Maybe he’ll pop outa nowhere and glow or something cuz he’s so happy…he tends to do that.” Stephanie smiled a suggestive smile at Frank before he caught on.

“Oh…what now Steph? What the hell!” He screeched. She just laughed at him and went back to her pilaf.
“I didn’t say a thing.” She acted all innocent.
“Really, urggg!” Frank dragged his hand over his face and banged his head on the table. “You bought me glow in the dark FREAKING CONDOMS!”

A few nearby heads turned and looked at Frank, some shocked, some disgusted, others just giggling. He hung his head to try and hide his embarrassment behind his bangs. “And you must be getting a kick out of me saying that he…uhh never mind.”

Stephanie was by now choking on the small, round seeds as she laughed up a storm. Frank watched her for a while with a slightly annoyed expression, but soon found he had to be fighting to hide the smile that was threatening his lips.
“Pshh, look at you. You’re a mess.” He tutted as she attempted to sip some water, but instead ended up slapping the table while she coughed and hit her chest with her hand, while attempting to speak.

“You j- *cough* just gon- *cough* *cough* gonna w-watch me c-cho- *cough* choke.” Frank laughed then smirked at her. “I’d much rather watch you swalloooo- heeyy Geeee buddy!” Frank greeted with a huge smile and Gerard ran up to the table and sat down next to Frank, out of breath.

“Hey, buddy?” He greeted, and then turned to watch Stephanie who was still giving small coughs here and there while raising one eyebrow at Frank, who just shook his head and flipped her off when Gee wasn’t looking.

“So Gerard, recess is almost over…where were you?” Frank asked as he picked up the bread and cheese paste sandwich he almost forgot he brought. Gerard looked up at him with a sick expression. “I was enjoying the pleasure of live gay porno in the confines of a bathroom stall I just pissed in.” This time bother Stephanie and Frank started coughing.

“What?” Frank asked. That was a bit…unexpected.

“Dude, which reminds me…I need your number. Either you or Stephanie, or both.” Frank looked at him with a tired face.
“I don’t ha-“ he cut himself off when he remembered that Chippy sneaked one into his book bag. “Sure, one sec.” While he looked for the phone to get the number, Stephanie was dialing her number into his phone while Gerard rambled on.

“Dude, I had a hot one, so naturally I just ran into any stall. And dude, just when I was finished and was about to come out, two guys just bust in. And in case you haven’t realized, I’m not a fan of awkward meet ups, ie; elevators, bathrooms, etc. So I decided I’ll wait until they get occupied, then leave…and BOY DID THEY GET OCCUPIED! You could hear the guy slamming into the other one…HAR-“

“Okaaayyy, theeeere Geraaard!” Frank cut off. “I don’t think I can eat after that.” But Gerard raised a hand to silence him.
“That’s not the worst bit…”

“Oh my,” Steph muttered from behind a spoonful of pilaf.
“The b*tch decided to do it against the bathroom doors, unfortunately ending up on the stall that I was in, and…he kina saw m-“
“He f*cking saw you! Ohh man!” Frank burst out into loud laughter, grabbing his stomach and banging the table with his hand, while Stephanie put her food down and did the same, covering her perfect smile with her hands.

“That’s not freaking funny!”
“Heck yeah it is!” Frank retorted.
“No it’s not!” Gerard’s face was becoming a light pink due to all the blood rushing to his cheeks from embarrassment.

“He’s right Frank, he’s right.” Stephanie said, suddenly becoming serious. Frank stopped laughing and looked up at her.
“It’s HILARIOUS! Ahahhaa!” She continued laughing and so did Frank and Gerard sat there sulking.

“I had to crawl under the separations to get out the bathroom, and my friends sit here and guffaw whilst I die of embarrassment?” Gerard asked and Frank and Stephanie stopped laughing and looked at each other before turning to Gerard, amusement still clear on their now rosy faces.

“Wait wait wait…You mean to tell me..” Frank paused while feigning disgust and leaning a little bit away from Gerard, “you didn’t wash your hands!” Gerard looked genuinely scared as Stephanie once again began laughing and Frank stared at Gerard wide-eyed, obviously trying to maintain his composure.

“N-not properly.” Gerard frowned.
“Dude..” Frank placed a sympathetic hand on Gerard’s shoulder and got all sentimental and serious, looking at him in the face. “Look man,” Gerard looked up at Frank and a smile broke across Frank’s face.

“Ahahahahaa!!!” Frank once again began laughing and Gerard huffed and stood up.
“You guys are the worst.” He said turning and walking away.
“Maybe next time you’d get lucky!” Stephanie screamed as he left, and Gerard just turned and flashed them the ‘bird’ before disappearing behind the walls.

Frank and Stephanie sat there laughing their guts up for who knows how long. And every time they began to calm down, they’d share this look and start laughing again. Frank honestly thought that they were laughing way too much for that situation. As much as it was hilarious, it wasn’t all that funny. But he didn’t care. He hasn’t laughed like this since..well for a while now.
This thought ‘sobered’ him up a little and he suddenly found himself staring at the girl in front of him.

She was…well, beautiful, was all Frank could think of to describe her. It always came right back around to that. The way she’d wear jeans and a t-shirt like if it was the latest fashion trend, how her hair was always moisturized and flowed like a calm river, down her back and shoulders, with the perfect waves and curls in the perfect place. The way she covered her mouth when she laughed because she claimed she had ‘big teeth’, and how her cheeks always got pink when she laughed and then she’d break out into a coughing fit.

Frank found himself smiling dopily like an idiot as she laughed, but eventually she realized that he wasn’t laughing too and calmed down and watched him.

“Hmm What?” She asked, and he blinked a little before replying.
“I’m lucky to have you as my friend.” She smiled and blushed a little bit, then stood.
“C’mon bells already gone. Let’s get to Algebra.” Frank’s eyes opened wide as he surveyed the almost empty cafeteria.

“So you sat there laughing like a goat while everyone’s already in their classes?!” She hit his side and giggled.
“Suddup Pansy, I do NOT laugh like a goat.” She tried to give a warning glare, but ended up making both of them laugh.
“Riiight,” Frank replied laughing. “Let’s go Steph.”

They literally ran to their lockers to collect their stuff and stood outside the door of the classroom bracing themselves to be chewed out for arriving late. Frank turned and gave Stephanie a worried yet playful glance and she nodded at him and opened the door to be met with a flying paper ball , smack, right in the center of her face. Frank, because of his training, was quick and managed to dodge about four.

“What the- “ Franks words were cut off when Gerard dropped a paper ball on his head and stood next to him with a childish grin.
“Teacher’s not here..c’mon have some fun Pansy!”
“Shut up Little Red Riding Hood.” Gerard paused and stared at him wide-eyed and nervous. By now Stephanie had already joined in the game and was ducking behind a desk from the ‘flying balls of death.’

Frank gave Gerard a huge cheeky grin and held up the boy’s smartphone to display a picture of Gerard with fiery red hair.
“Wha-“ Gerard immediately began patting down his shirt and pants pocket only to look up at Frank’s amused face and take the phone. “How did you get this?” Gerard was by now blushing as red as his bad mistake.
“Pshh, you left it on the cafeteria table when you got up and left.” He giggled and watched as Gerard came closer to him,
“Not a word about any of this to ANYone…Pansy.”

Gerard shoved Frank on the ‘Pansy’ for special emphasis, but Frank just laughed.
“Whatever you say Little Red.” Frank was too caught up laughing to notice Gerard had picked up a paper ball and launched it at him. “Heyy! That’s not fair!” Frank grabbed a nearby one and just like that, it was on. The whole class went up in white, messy paper balls, and not one of them cared.

...............

Frank was at his locker putting away his books form English A class, which was right before lunch. This was the best day ever. Frank found it hard to believe he was having such a good time. He was sure something would ruin it. He shook the thought from his head and decided to relish every smile or laugh he could have for himself. He was going to enjoy all the good times he could possibly have. He slammed the locker door shut and walked to the café, crossing paths with Gerard and Steph, so they all made their way to ‘their’ table together.

“Man this day is going so good.” Stephanie exclaimed.
“Yeah.” Frank and Gerard agreed. Frank was seated next to Stephanie and directly opposite Gerard. They engaged themselves in pointless rambling, laughing and stale jokes, when Frank got a text.

Chippy:
Slap to the face, punch to the tummy. Warned ya! =)

Frank furrowed his eye brows in confusion, and mere seconds later, a huge, strapping, muscular man came up behind Frank and grabbed his shirt collar, yanking him to his feet before slapping him in the face and punching him in the stomach.

Frank doubled over in pain from the impact and almost fell to his knees, but instead he jumped a good distance backwards and then hunched trying to regulate his breathing.
“Oh my god!” Stephanie screamed, but she was glued to the spot, and her face was a pale white. Gerard too was shocked, but he responded and ran up to Frank and stood in front of him protectively.

Slap to the face, punch to the tummy. Warned ya! =)

Dammit Chippy!
Frank slowly raised his head and took in the tall blonde guy in front of him. Q4!

“Hey man! You gonna stay huddled over like some kind of weakling or what?” Q4 yelled at him, putting on a bit of a show for the rest of the cafeteria who had silenced and watched.

“Don’t talk to him like that!” By now Stephanie had come back to reality and ran straight up to Q4 and bitch slapped him straight across the face so hard his head snapped to the side and the sound resonated throughout the cafeteria. Gasps could be heard and Frank himself was shocked. If glares could kill then Q4 would have been shredded to pieces by now. The look Stephanie was giving him even made Frank shiver.

“S-steph *cough* it’s okay.” Frank mumbled, standing up straight and patting Gerard on the shoulder.
“What’s up man? You can’t just go for the ol’ high-five?” Frank asked and smiled. Q4 caught on and continued the ‘act’.
“Nah. I prefer to resurrect our greeting for old time’s sake.”

Frank walked calmly up to his subordinate and hid the pissed off glare that was threatening his face the best he could.
“What’s up…buddy.” Frank asked and gave him the best smile he could. All of a sudden he got serious and looked Frank dead in the eyes.
“We need to talk.” Frank’s whole demeanor changed and a slight uneasiness flooded through him as Q4’s words reverberated through his brain mixing with his phone call with Chippy.

“We need to talk.”
“G contacted me so expect…” “We need to talk…we need to talk.” “G contacted me so expect a text or something…”

“G…” Frank whispered.
“Yeah?” Gerard asked, bringing Frank back to reality. Q4’s face remained the same.
“G..Oh yeah Gee umm, I’ll…I’ll be right back” Frank said, more like a question.

“Whoa whoa whoa whoa wait. Who the hell is this?!” Gerard looked somewhat upset, but you could tell he genuinely was in a ‘mood to understand’.
“Oh uhh, t-this…this is, is…umm this is-“
“Bob.” Q4 cut in. “My name’s Bob.”

“Oh..” was all Gerard said. Frank was about to turn and go with him but Stephanie stopped him. “Frank…” He slowly turned around. She still had that death look on her face. “You’re not going anywhere until this douche apologizes.” She said calmly, almost scaring the living daylight out of Frank.
“Umm..what?”
“I said… You’re not going ANYwhere, until this douche apologizes.”

Bob had this amused look on his face. “Not gonna happen sweetie.” He stated simply, before turning and walking off. “C’mon Fran-“ Stephanie grabbed his hand and stopped his movement. “Fine… I’ll make yo-“
“Okay Steph. It’s fine really.”

Her face softened and she watched him.

“Steph he’s, he’s an old friend. It’s really fine.” He gave her a warm smile and she relaxed.

“Fine.” With that she let go of Bob’s hand and let him and Frank go.

Once they reached the school’s front steps, Frank turned abruptly and elbowed Bob, square in the nose before chopping the nape of his neck and grabbing his wrist, spinning behind Bob and placing one hand at the base of Bob’s head and yanking his hair back and pushing up his hand, forcing him to his knees.

“Good,” Frank spoke slowly and threateningly. “now that we’re in a… position to talk, Q4, how the f*ck do you know who I really am!” Frank whisper-shouted. One could easily tell that Bob feared and respected Frank.

“G let me in. He said that because you more less trained me, and that I worked so hard, I earned a right to know who you are.” Bob said.
“Bullsh*t” Frank quickly changed positions, loosening his grip on Bob’s wrist, only to spin him the other way so he was on his back and placed on foot on his chest while bending his wrist forward painfully.

“G will never do that-“
“He did…okay he did! Just…lemme at least explain.” Frank contemplated for a minute before letting him go.

“You got 30 seconds…make it count.”

Bob stood up and rearranged himself then began to talk quickly but efficiently.
“You have another job. Commander found out about a drug trade somewhere around west of New Jersey. There’s dealers scattered all about the state and we need to eliminate all of them and find the source.”

Frank listened and sighed. “When do we start.” Bob looked at his watch.
“We all assemble…well now actually.”
“And why did he give you my identity. Chippy could’ve easily sent me a text.”
Bob shrugged, “Guess so, but I know who you are now anyway eh? Frank Iero?”
Frank’s expression was cold and he clenched his knuckles so hard his fists turned white. “Not for long.”

Bob stopped in his tracks and looked at Frank, trying to hide his nervousness as best he could. “As much as I trained you, you’re not ready to take me on. And no one…I mean, NO. ONE. that ever knew my identity, other than G and a particular someone has lived to tell the tale. And that only happened once. So I’ll spare your life, but you keep your word. Never let anyone know, even in the organization, or you’re a dead man. Got it?”

Bob swallowed. “Got it.”

Frank turned to walk back into the school. “Wait, where are you going?”
“I’m gonna go get my things.” And with that, Frank was walking into the school, but not before he looked up at a huge window and saw Gerard and Stephanie looking at him with worried and curious gazes.
