Disenchanted

How to be Less Rude

I went to go wash my mouth after the conversation ended. Party Poison’s breath smelled like dog food. I’m sure mine was worst though. Godangit, he was cute. Nope. He’s not. He’s annoying. He wouldn’t say that he knew me! I mean, he had to! I don’t even care.

I looked into the non-mirror-mirror thing like those ones from school. My hair is pastel pink and curly. Maybe a bit longer than my collar bone. I liked it, but I can’t remember the night it happened. What could have possibly happened? I wiped my nose with the white sweatshirt that I still had from 2 years ago, and walked outside.

“It’s getting dark. Maybe we should head to the camp. We don’t want any Dracs finding us here…” Jet stated, sounding like the voice of reason. I don’t know why he would say it, though. These guys would probably know to be careful. Maybe for Ab – I mean Shadow and I. We weren’t stupid. It’s a pretty simple idea: Run when people start shooting at you. Avoid it when you can. Whatever.

“Aye aye, Cap’n,” Ghoul said to Jet, not trying to hide his sarcasm as he saluted him.

I looked at Abby who sat in the back, her feet pulled to her chest and her eyes closed. She looked so peaceful. I hoped she was having a good dream. I haven’t had a good dream since 2012. All I see is Battery City burning to the ground. And then there was that one… the one with Party Poison. I know it’s him. I just need to prove it somehow…

“Hey, Jet. When do ‘spect I’ll be getting my brand new name? I’m kind of looking forward to being able to introduce myself,” I asked, still confused about why they can’t know my name.
Jet looked me over. He walked around me stroking his chin ever so lightly, “I see you already have a blaster,” he said, pulling it out of my bag and tossing it around, “You’ll need it for your name. But, uh… you and Shadow are definitely going to need some new clothes. You both look like ghosts in those white get-ups. And we don’t need any more of those around here…” he said trailing off. I looked down at my white slacks and sweatshirt. It was pretty bad wasn’t it?

I shrugged tugged my blaster from his hands, “My blaster is so ugly. It’s just like the rest of this dumb place. It’s white. Ugh, why can’t we just paint it?”

Ghoul smiled from across the room, “You will. And you’re definitely going to get your name soon.”

I smiled back, "So no one wants to know my real name?”

“No,” came the reply from Party.

“Thanks for the info Party. I wasn’t talking to you.” I said, forcing my lips to frown.

Abby mumbled a little in her sleep. You couldn’t even understand her.

Party walked over to me and stood directly in front of me, “Please. Just. Stop. I never did anything to you, and you have been a real wavehead,” Why did I feel like he just called me a drug addict or something?

“Okay, you know what. You win. Sorry.”

“Well, I thought she has been pretty nice, especially for being hit with all this buzz about Better
Living,” Jet apparently disagreed with Party and I smiled a bit at that.

“No, no. You don’t have to be nice to me. I have had a bit of an attitude,” I said, sounding apologetic.

“She’s right,” Party said, “She has had an attitude.” I was a bit turned off by his current, rude demeanor, “but that doesn’t mean we have to have an attitude back.” He said, smiling at me.

“Thanks,” I said, smiling back. I picked up my bag and repeated Jet’s words, “Guys, we really need to go.”

“What are we gonna do about Shadow?” Kobra asked. I really didn’t know. I didn’t want to wake her up.

“We could carry her,” Ghoul pitched. There were some mumbles and nods of agreement. And

Kobra picked her up with no help. I guess he would have to be pretty strong. I was still a failure at anything involving strength… I could carry Abby’s legs. He may have to hand it to someone else if the camp was very far

We walked out the Diner, and I was pretty surprised to see a car parked outside. It was an old classic-looking thing. Completely demolished, but you know… If they got here, then I’m sure it could run…

I hopped in next to Kobra and Ghoul; Shadow’s head was on my lap. This was awkward… The car started with no problems and Party took the driver’s seat with Jet next to him.

And then we were off. 0-60 in 2 seconds. How? This was fast. I felt my heart rate go through the roof, and my breath sucked out of my lungs. It took me a second to get used to the wind whipping at my face, but it was pretty fun other than that.

“One second, guys,” I said, pulling my head through the sun roof, “WHOOOOO!!! Hahaha!

This is fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! I said, my face being beat by my hair. The people in the car started laughing and Girl came up to join me. She smiled at me like she understood. Then she looked ahead, as if she expected something wonderful to happen. We screamed at the world the whole way there.

The camp was a big campground looking thing. Some old cinders were near surrounding a nice sized campfire. A few logs and sleeping bags were scattered around. I walked over to the camp and sat for a while. Kobra had tucked Abby into her bag. I hoped she was having good dreams.

After sitting on that log for almost 30 minutes, I grabbed a sleeping bag and said goodnight to everyone.

“I’m sorry, Party.” I said before closing my eyes and zipping the cover all the way up.

MWAHAHAHAHA! Sorry. I just wanted to do that. So a bit more characterization. Still a bit of ambiguity, but, you know... I think it wasn't half bad. Until Next Time, LOVE YA'LL!!
