Romance Reloaded

Graduation (part 1)

Franks POV

The light of the early morning sun shone through a gap between the curtains. I groaned, stretching my arms as I woke up. I felt my right arm was restrained, Kat was fast asleep with her warm curvaceous body pressed against mine. I giggled quietly to myself and kissed the back of her neck. “Good morning angel.” I whispered, nuzzling my nose into the nook of her neck. I held her tightly and thought back appreciatively to our first night back together. Her heart beating rhythmically against mine after a heated love session. I didn’t let go of her all night, I needed her so much before, and now she was here. Nothing else mattered apart from this moment; just me and Kat, together in each other’s arms until the end of time itself. I just wanted to lay with her forever, to protect her, to love her. At that moment I felt Kat’s body begin to move in my arms as she woke up. She sat up and yawned in the most adorable fashion before turning to face me. “Morning, Frank.” She said, giggling slightly before kissing me affectionately. It was the first time Kat had stayed at my house. My parents didn’t like many visitors so I never really invited anyone over. Since I was 16, life with them became intolerable so I spent most of my time living with Gerard. Oh yeah. Gerard.

I tried not to let the guilt of hurting Gee get to me too much whilst I was with Kat. We spent the morning sat on my couch, discussing our adventures whilst we’d been away. She told me what Shiloh did to her and how she got away with it. My blood was boiling. “You should have called me and I would have come back to sort her out myself! No one hurts you and gets away with it.” I gently stroked her nose, realising it was slightly misshapen but not enough to notice it. “You should have called me.” I repeated, looking deep into her forest green eyes. Kat gazed back longingly at me. “It doesn’t matter. Let it go.” I didn’t take it any further than that. It had happened months ago, there was no chance of catching her. “If she comes near you again, I swear she won’t live to see another day!” I warned. Kat sighed and looked down at her feet. I pulled her on to my lap and kissed her forehead.

“What shall we do today, angel?” I asked, changing the subject. She sighed again and ran her index finger over my lip ring. “If there’s one thing I realised whilst you were away is there is nothing to do in this damn place!” I nodded understandingly. “Yeah. I know that. I’ve lived here all my life.” I admitted. Kat got up and walked towards the window, looking outside dreamily. “Well. Maybe it’s time we moved somewhere else then?” she asked, leaning back on the windowsill, with her elbows supporting her elevated her body. The idea of moving away from here intrigued me greatly. “Where would we go?” I asked, lifting myself from the couch and walking over to Kat. “New York. I can go to college there and you guys can still work from there.” I smiled at her enthusiasm and slipped my phone out of my pocket. “I like your thinking; I’ll call Ray and see what he thinks.”

(Kats POV)

I took to gazing out the window, watching the world go by as Frank called Ray. I couldn’t help but think it was pretty strange he hadn’t called Gerard but oh well. I’m sure things will be fine. A few moments later Frank hung up and hugged me excitedly. “We’re going to New York baby.” I laughed in astonishment. “Ray said he was already thinking about moving there because it would get us more gigs and publicity. So he’s spoken to our record label about it and they told him they have a studio in NYC. That makes it even better for us!” a squeal of excitement escaped my lips as I threw my arms around Frank and kissed him passionately. We spent the rest of the afternoon looking at flats online and eventually settled on a small apartment on Mercer Street, only a few blocks away from The City College of New York. The price was a little more than I preferred but Frank assured me his record label was going to pay for everything.
My mom didn’t exactly warm to the idea of me moving away to NYC. The sound of her voice cracking with emotion as I spoke to her on the phone was overpowering. “It’s gonna be fine mom, I’ll be going to a good college with amazing friends and I can get a job easily. There’s more for me in the city than there is here…” my voice trailed off as the true reality of leaving home hit me. Yeah, I was excited but scared too. “I know you’ll be fine honey, just take care of yourself okay?” I knew she meant it but my mom’s reply was slow and pained. We said our farewells and hung up. Frank sighed deeply and wrapped his arms around my waist. “I’ll take care of you angel, no one will ever hurt you as long as I’m here.” He said, smiling against my neck, his warm breath tickling my skin.

The weeks up to graduation passed quicker with Frank by my side, I took him to meet my mom and he spent a fortnight living with us. “Frank’s a lovely boy, Kat. Keep him close.” My mom whispered to me as Frank came in the den yielding a bunch of roses in the air. I giggled as he presented himself down on one knee and handed over the roses majestically. “Don’t worry, mom. He’s not going anywhere.” I smiled as I arose from the couch and sauntered through the hall to the kitchen with Frank trailing close behind. I began rummaging through a cupboard under the sink for a vase when the sound of Frank’s voice caught my attention. “The graduation party is tomorrow. Do you wanna go?” I contemplated the idea for a moment before answering him. “Yeah, we should probably go. I mean, we’re probably not gonna see Brie or Andy for quite a while. The least we can do is go and say good bye.” Frank nodded as I filled the vase with water and placed it on the table.

A sudden moment of realisation came over me as I gazed at the crimson red flowers in the china vase. The painting I did for Frank all those months ago. It’s still in the attic along with all my paints. “Wait here a second, I have something for you too.” With that I ran up the stairs and opened the hatch to the abandoned attic and climbed the ladder. It seemed as if time itself had stopped up there, nothing had changed since I last closed the hatch several months ago. I opened the chest containing my paints and dusted off the canvas. I smiled in accomplishment and headed back down stairs. “Here you go!” I exclaimed, holding out the canvas to Frank. He took it carefully from me and studied it in great detail. “It’s beautiful, Kat. I didn’t know you could paint.” He smiled and embraced me in an appreciative hug. “Yeah, well. Its been so long since I’ve painted, I kinda just forgot about it I guess.” Frank stepped back and studied the canvas again, miming the caption. ‘This one’s for you, Frank. I’ll love you as long as this rose is alive.’
