The Bottom of the Bottle
Chapter 4
When I open my eyes I'm blinded by a bright white light. I'm lying in a really uncomfortable bed in a room surrounded by white walls. Everything is silenent besides the rhythmic "beep, beep, beep."
I sit up in the bed to find the source of the sound and to my left I find the screen of a heart monitor matching up with my heartbeat.
"Huh? Where am I?" I stumble out.
"Oh, hello Mr. Way good to see your awake! You're in the hospital, you were brought here 2 days ago by your brother." The woman in the purple scrubs explains.
"Wh-where is he?"
She points he finger to the left side of the room towards my brother who is curled up in a small uncomfortable looking chair.
"M-Mikey?"
He stirs in his chair and looked up at me.
"Hey Gee how are you feeling?"
"Okay I guess. How did I here?"
"I found you on the floor about 6am on Friday. I tried to wake up but you wouldn't budge. I became scared you, you weren't going to wake up. So I called Frank to help me get you to the hospital."
"Fr-frank. Oh my god. Where is he Mikey?"
"He went home early this morning. He told me to call you when you woke up."
I began to cry and Mikey came over to my side and hugged me. "I'm so sorry Mikey, I'm such a screw up. I'm just dragging everyone down. You don't deserve this. Frank doesn't deserve this."
"Gee don't you ever say that you are the best big brother ever. And the best friend to Frank. Don't start talking like this Gee please don't."
I stop crying and Mikey calls Frankie. I'm not ready to talk to him yet. He deserves better than me. I'll never understand how he still manages to hang around me after what I've put him through.
"Gee?" A little voice says from the hallway
"Frankie?" I say a tear coming from my eye.
"Gee please don't cry! Oh now I'm crying. Gee!"
"Frankie Im sorry Im such a shit friend! I tried to change really. I still try. It's just so hard! I'm sorry I let you down."
"You didn't let me down. You're the best friend I could ever have. I wouldn't trade you for the world! I love you. And you want to know why I never leave? I'll tell you tonight! Over that movie you promised! There's a whole back story!"
"Okay Frankie. As long as I can leave tonight!" I say looking over to the nurse. She nods in approval and Frankie gives me a hug.
"Alright Gee! See you tonight!"
He walks out the door and I can't wait to finally spend a day with my best friend. It's been too long so I'm glad we can finally hang out. I can't wait to here his story too.
