Only The Lonely

"What do you normally get?" Gerard rubbed his frozen hands together and shivered violently "V..Vanilla latte. Thank god it doesn't snow here." Kat wrapped her arms around her waist tighter to catch any escaping warmth that might escape "I'll pay." "No, not letting a guy I just met and only know his name pay for me." Kat was stubborn, dangerously almost. It wasn't a virtue, but a vice. "Fine. I'm getting a caramel latte with an extra shot of espresso. I'll spike it myself." he patted his jacket pocket with a smirk and got in line to order "What have you gotten yourself into, Katrin Elsa Lang?" she thought. He was interesting her more and more... "Hi. I'll have a vanilla latte, whole milk." she finished ordering and found the table where her new friend sat. "Alright, tell me about yourself." he grinned "You don't want to know." she hissed "Yeah I do, actually." he playfully tugged on a piece of her hair "Fine! I was born and raised for the first few years of my life in a poor suburb of Los Angeles. I went to kindergarten there and got bullied. We moved up to where the mine country is and I got away from the bullying there." she blurted "Bullied? When you were five? That's batshit crazy. Fucking batshit crazy." he frowned "Yeah. Then we moved back and I was homeschooled. After first grade, we moved to Denver for two years then back to Cali, this time the capitol. My sister was only two." "You have a sister? I have a brother, Mikey." Gerard interrupted, getting up for their drinks. Kat nodded and prepared to tell the worst. "One vanilla latte, whole milk for the sexy ass lady." "I told you I don't date." "Go back to the goddamn story." "Well, I was still homeschooled, and friendless. It kinda sucked...then along came seventh grade. Oh, I used to be a church kid too." "Ha! Yeah right. You're too...different." Gerard raised an eyebrow at her serious face. "Wait, you're serious?" "Duh, Sherlock." "Sorry. Go on." Kat spun the tale of how she had actually made friends in her youth group in seventh grade, falling in love with her friends older brother. The fun lasted until the end of eighth grade, when her best friend Rochelle had become a cheerleader and began bullying her. "I met Susan and Andy and everything seemed better. The youth pastor made fun of us as fucking terribly as that shit head Rochelle did." By the time she was a junior, she had one friend she could trust, due to the others leaving or becoming part of Rochelle's clique. There was another clique after Rochelle left, started by Betty, a new girl. Kat's first love, Nolan ended up fucking another girl and getting her pregnant, marrying her to cover it up. "I was heartbroken. Then he found me online and we started talking again. Then he started flirting. I had to end our new friendship because he wasn't being faithful and I didn't want to be the other woman. Now tell me about you." Kat took a long sip of her coffee as she organized her thoughts. She was a wreck inside, having told a total stranger her deepest secrets. "Well, I'm from Jersey. I'm in a band. We aren't successful, so we have separate jobs. I work at the Hot Topic down the street, the only place that would hire me. I was bullied as well in school. I was overweight and a loner. I hated myself, still do. No one wanted to be friends with the fat comic book geek that makes his own comics." Gerard shrugged "Not much after your life, I guess." "We both had it hard. Those bullies can suck it." Kat flipped the finger out the window and laughed "You know, I think we could be good friends." she smiled "Yeah, you're right. If there are any other assholes who hurt you, I'll beat those asses." "Well...there is a Jared Holden that deserves it. He studies at the art college and works at a juice bar."
