This Band Will Save Your Life (Frank Iero fanfic)

Chapter 21: Vampires Will Never Hurt You

Frank's POV

~~~
"Thank you Seattle! We wish you all a merry Christmas. May your dreams come true, your prayers get answered and your grandma not be run over by a reindeer!"
Gerard had given me the opportunity to say bye to our final crowd for the year and I made the most of it.
We finished our encore and left the stage. My body was shaking slightly and I could feel sweat running down my face and neck.
Yes naysayers, vampires do sweat.
I handed Pansy to a roadie and they went off to put the guitar away.
Despite playing for ages while jumping around, doing backup vocal and getting groped by Gerard I was wide awake and could easily play another gig right now.
I'd have to settle with going out for after concert pizza, not nearly as exciting.
On the bright side we got to do a signing for the fans and after the pizza I'd be telling Fallyn about us being vampires. That's if she could pay attention long enough.
Fallyn had been dancing, singing and grinning hyperactively for the whole concert, she hasn't stopped for a second and I was surprised by how much stamina she had.
It was definitely the skittles that did this to her, she'd eaten almost no sugar while being on the bus.
Now she'd gone from sugar free to practically snorting it in a couple of hours.
I'd eaten the same amount as her but I was used to the sugar and since I was a vampire things didn't effect me the same.
Almost immediately after coming off stage she began to hug and chat to the guys.
It's like she'd had her personality freed and acted a lot more like she would on rare occasions, I like it.
The only problem is she needs to speak slower, most of her words will run into a single line and its impossible to understand what she's talking about.
"OhmygodFrankiethatwasfantastic!" I'm not positive but I think I managed to understand her words this time.
She gave me a huge grin and a hug while Gerard dropped against the wall and drank a whole bottle of water in one go. I didn't get a chance to say anything else, she ran off to talk to Bob who was standing in a corner and staring at the floor.
"How could she go from her to that?" Gee gestured to Fallyn who was happily hugging a surprised looking Bob.
"I said it before, she tasted the rainbow, and uh, the rainbow beat her up with a happy princess stick." Gee snorted and picked himself up off the ground.
There were some signings we needed to do and it would be good if we did it soon.
The couple hundred people attending cleared out and we were left standing on the stage in the huge, empty hall.
Pansy and the rest of the bands equipment would be loaded onto the bus when Greg came to pick them up tomorrow morning.
I hopped off the stage and was followed by Gee, Mikey, Ray and Bob.
When Fallyn came up to the edge I picked her up by the waist and placed her on the ground next to me.
We walked out the front doors and into the front street to see over a hundred people waiting for autographs and photos. The venue we played at was small but there had been roughly eight hundred people there and a quarter of them were out here.
"Woah, there's so many people. Hi!" Fallyn, in her sugar drunk state began waving and talking to people as if they were friends.
I had to pull her away from them, the fans were starting to give her strange looks and I could understand why.
All of a sudden they were being chatted to by a girl who was mysteriously with the band.
Once all the fans were satisfied with a autograph, photo or both we made our way towards a pizza shop. We sat down at a huge table, ordered and talked while waiting for the food to arrive.
"ThosepeopleseemedsoniceacoupleofthemsaidhitomeandbIsaidhellobackyouguyshavegotsuchawesomefanshahaIjustcalledmyselfawsaomenarccisistmuch."
She still hasn't calmed down and was talking at a million miles an hour with no breaths or gaps between words.
"Fallyn, have a glass of water okay?" Gee said and she took a sip from a cup in front of her which stopped the babbling for a brief moment.
"Youknowimnotfeelingsogoodmaybeitwasntageniusideaformetoeatsomanyskittlesmystomachisfeelingabitsick." Since she was sitting next to me I rubbed her back, I'm not sure what effect it had on people experiencing nausea but it was worth a try.
Her face appeared slightly less green and she kept taking small sips of water regularly. The skittles had effected her and not in the good comedic babbling kind of way.
We made small talk about various topics like the gig, new movies and what electrical appliance Mikey has fucked with recently.
The pizza arrived at the table and the guys started eating immediately while I observed Fallyn for a moment.
"I, uh, I'll be right back." She stood up for a second and bolted in the general direction of the bathrooms. Gerard stared after her with a concerned frown on his face, he didn't do anything though and took another bite of pizza.
"Why aren't you doing anything."
"I said you'd be holding her hair back when she barfed the rainbow." He'd actually been serious? I thought he was making a really crappy joke or something.
"Yes I was being serious." He shrugged and answered my thoughts out loud and I let out a little sigh and pushed my seat back.
It was obvious why she wouldn't be in the guys bathrooms so with slight hesitation I went into the girls area and could instantly see her feet from under a door.
I could hear her retching from my place near the sinks.
People throwing up didn't freak me out, I'd gotten used to it from Gerard and his many near alcohol fuelled blackouts.
I've also had my fair share of drunk vomiting and I'd like to never go through it again, which I won't be now I'm a vamp. I went and stood by the door, it was locked behind her and I'd happened to leave my lock pick set at home.
"Fal's, do you need help?"
Does she need help?
What the fuck is that supposed to mean brain?
"I don't want you to hear me, please go away." I sighed, this reminded me of the bridge, her asking me to go away.
"Open the door please." I wasn't asking her, I was telling her and the door clicked open.
She was sitting on the ground next to the toilet and her skeleton makeup was smeared from one side of her face to the other. It looked like she'd finished tossing her cookies (rather skittles) and I helped her up then flushed the toilet.
I got her to sit on the bench and wet a bit op paper towel.
She looked embarrassed for and wouldn't make eye contact with me.
"What's the matter?" I asked, wiping off her black makeup, it was hardly makeup now but there wasn't a word for what it ended up looking like.
"I didn't want you to hear me puking." She closed her eyes as I wiped away the small amount of eyeliner she'd put on.
"Don't worry, I'm used to it. Gee heaved his guts up nearly every night when he was using all the drugs and alcohol." She gave me a small smile, I think what I said helped a little.
"I'm sorry for all the psycho babbling. I'm allergic to colouring and flavours, I break out in stupid. Haha." Her laugh was short and humourless but her pale cheeks went bright red.
"Don't worry about it." She hopped off the bench and adjusted her shirt before looking at me then the door.
"When we walk out of the girl bathroom together people are gonna think something's up, except for the guys." I shrugged and opened the bathroom door for her, people could think whatever they wanted.
Besause if people thought I could get a girl like her I'd be happy. We sat down at the table and the guys immediately started asking her I'd she was okay, it wouldn't have killed them to ask when she was puking into a public toilet.
I handed her a slice of pizza and she bit I to it and started eating happily with the occasional sentence thrown in.
Her speech had slowed down dramatically and everyone was now able to understand her.
She also wasn't trying to hug everyone all the time, I was enjoying the hugs but the other guys didn't, or at least not in the same way as me.
We took our time eating and it was nearly twelve thirty at night, none of us were bothered enough with walking home and Ray called up for a cab since the streets were empty.
Fallyn sat on the curb with her legs stretched out while there was an all out snowball fight between, Gee, Bob, Mikey and I.
Ray sat next to Fallyn and tried to avoid getting hit, which didn't work and he got six snowballs in his fro. Mikey's glasses got knocked off and nearly broken when Bob hit him in the face and I giggled.
Bobbert and Mikes had a love/hate relationship, one day they'd be great friends and the next one they'd refuse to talk.
No one eve knew why, we just accepted they acted like that.
Fal's (which I'd decided to nickname her 'til I came up with a better name) refused to throw a snowball at anyone, even me and stayed far out of the way.
None of us were gonna be the ass who hit her, she was too sweet and harmless for us to even want to.
The yellow van, cab thing pulled up to the curb near where Fal's sat and we all got in quickly.
It'd been a while since the group slept and they all wanted to go back to the hotel and get some much needed sleep.
This came in handy for me.
Once a vampire was tired to the point of needing sleep it was almost impossible to wake them up.
I could always wake Mikey because he slept a lot, like a human, so he was never truly tired.
But I digressed. If they're asleep the chances of them reading her thoughts or mine when I tell her about us being vampires were unlikely.
That meant they wouldn't show up and get her out of the room before I could say something.
It would be hard enough telling her with just me.
She'd said she trusted me and I was relying upon that for my explanation.
I was the same guy who gave her too much skittles, made her smile and used guilt to get her to stay on the bus.
The only thing she didn't know was I'm immortal, unkillable, super fast/strong and I have to drink blood to stay in a reasonable mental state.
Uh, and I also have fangs, but that's it.
The cab stopped in front of the hotel and Gee payed the driver before we clambered out of the van. Gee, Bobbert, Mikey and Ray went to their rooms immediately, they were tired after the concert and needed to crash in order to wake up in time to get on the bus.
Because Fallyn was staying with me for the duration of our stay at the hotel she came my room with me.
"Oh shit." She'd been looking through her duffle bag for pyjamas and only just now remembered they got covered in blood during the incident with Evangeline. I threw her a pair of shorts and a large shirt.
"We can get you some new pyjamas. It's impossible to get blood out of any kind of clothing, even with bleach." One of my favourite shirts had been wrecked because of some accidental blood spillage during feeding.
She nodded and walked into the bathroom with the bundle of clothes and closed the door behind her.
My heart felt like it should be beating so fast right now.
I couldn't hear the guys moving around in their room, looks like they've gone to sleep.
That means I'll get to tell her the truth about everything now.
For some reason I was also excited.
If she didn't spazz at the news then I'd be able to act like I normally did on the bus.
I could openly switch between mind speak and verbal speak.
I wouldn't have to hide my fangs all the time and not every single word will be made up of a huge lie.
Plus it would be really good to have a human besides Greg who I could talk to about things.
I'll never be able to openly say I can't think straight and it feels like my heart will start again when she's around but it's starting somewhere. She came out of the bathroom in my shirt with the shorts held up by a cord around her waistband.
She looked so cute like that.
"Frankie, you all right? You're kinda staring off into the distance." I brought myself back to reality and gave her a smile.
I felt nervous on the inside and prayed I looked normal on the outside.
She plopped down on the bed and crossed her legs in front of her while looking at the tv playing in the corner.
"Fal's, can I talk to you?" She picked up the remote and turned off the tv.
"Sure, but what's up with the sudden nickname?" She flipped over and lay on her stomach, looking at me with a light smile.
"I give everyone a nickname, it's a habit. Bobbert, Fro man, Sass master and Mikey the Toaster Conqueror."
Fallyn started laughing then snorted and covered up her mouth, the band had a similar reaction when I started calling them by those names.
"Haha, I'm sorry. I made you talk about something else, but its so funny." She continued to laugh as I had a glance around the room and got a sharp knife from the cutlery draw.
It might be necessary in explaining things.
I put the knife on the nightstand then lay on the bed next to Fallyn who was still laughing slightly.
"It's okay. I want to tell you something and I'd like you to keep an open mind about it." Her laughter had stopped and she understood I was trying to be serious right now.
"I'll try my best." I took that as a go ahead and tried to explain as best as I could.
"I'm not, uh, normal, I guess that would be the best use of words. I've been like this since last year." She was frowning at my words, I'm doing a really crap intro at explaining things.
"Do you like the supernatural? Werewolves, fairies, mermaids, vampires, stuff like that."
I deserve a friggin trophy for this.
Considering how much time I had available to go over this plan I should have at least tried thinking of something.
"Yeah, I like them." I feel like I'm experiencing a heart attack right now.
"Have you ever wanted to meet one of them or know they're real?" She pursed her lips for a moment and a thinking expression crossed her face.
"Vampires are cool, but I wouldn't want to meet them if they were mean like Dracula, although the True Blood vampires seem nice, sometimes." This was going better than I'd thought, but I hadn't told her yet.
"What if you could meet one?" She giggled and stared into the distance.
"Um, I'd ask them to make me a vampire, I don't know, I've never thought about it before."
It hadn't occurred to me she'd want to be a vampire. I need to stop trying to drag this out, it'd be better if I get to the point and treat this like a bandaid.
"I don't think I'd be able to do that." Her dazzling barely there smile got wider.
"Haha, what?" She thought I was joking, fabulous.
"I'm a vampire." The look on her face made the moment completely unserious.
"Frankie, is this another prank?" This is around the point when I'll need to use the knife.
"No it isn't I promise. I asked you to keep an open mind and I'm telling you the complete truth. Feel my heart."
I took her hand gently and tried not to freak her out, then pressed it to my chest.
She's gotta notice I have no heartbeat.
"See, there's nothing there. I'm a vampire, so my heart doesn't beat and it's the full truth. You can't feel anything can you?" A frown came to her pale face and she shook her head vigorously.
Her heartbeat hadn't changed, it was still the same slow pace but the her expression said she was on the verge of believing me.
"I'm dead and alive at the same time. I'll never get old or sick, I'll never die, I am gonna be twenty two forever." Her mouth fell open, yep, I think it's working.
She didn't look scared or angry, just very surprised.
"You're a vampire?" I still hadn't let go of her hand but she didn't try to move it away and that gave me a small confidence boost.
"I'll prove it if you want me to." This is when the knife would come into play since the showing of fangs technique used by Gee didn't work.
She nodded, barely moving her head and I dropped her hand then reached for the knife I'd put on the nightstand.
I was now sitting cross legged on the bed with the knife sitting on one knee. She adjusted herself and sat up to see what I was doing.
I held the blade to my palm and she pulled my hand away before I could do anything.
"What are you doing, you'll hurt yourself!"
"It's okay, I can't feel much pain and you'll understand why I'm doing this in a minute."
Fallyn let go of my hand and I gave her a small smile before pressing the blade into my palm and pulling the knife across.
There was a small stinging sensation as a dark red gash was left on my hand.
"Congrats, you just hurt yourself. What's this supposed to prove?" I held my uncut hand up, telling her to wait for a moment.
I wiped the dripping blood off on my black shirt then held my cleaned hand out for her to see.
The cut slowly closed up, turned into a scab then faded away to nothing.
"Oh my fucking god." Aaand here comes the delayed spazz out with the screaming, swearing and praying.
"That's so awesome." She added while inspecting my hand closely, she had a smile on her face and it was my turn to have my jaw hang open.
I'd hoped it would be good but I never thought it was gonna turn out this well.
"You're okay with it?" This was the exact opposite of her behaviour on the bus last Saturday night.
"Depends, are you gonna kill me?" Her voice didn't sound very serious considering her sentence.
"No, why on earth would I want to do that? You're my friend and stuff." The stuff part meant I thought of her as more than a friend but didn't want to say anything.
"Then there's no problem. What kind of stuff can you do other than the healing?"
She's having a better attitude towards this than when I found out Gerard was a vampire, I refused to hang out with him for a week and we had to cancel two gigs.
"I can move really fast and I'm super strong or whatever word you want to use."
"Can you show me?" I closed my eyes and tried to focus for a moment, the next second I was sitting in an armchair on the other side of the room.
"Holy shit!" I felt like I was showing off now but I did kinda enjoy it, I couldn't act like this around normal people.
"Okay what about the strength thing?" It didn't come to mind immediately on how to demonstrate that one.
My eyes went to the knife sitting on the blankets. With one hand I picked it up and bent the stainless steel knife in half with a small twist of my fingers.
"Have you got the teeth as well?" She'd be referring to my fangs, which I most definitely had.
"Promise you won't panic?" Fallyn continued to adjust herself on the bed with a huge grin while I considered the consequences of her seeing my fangs.
"Why would I panic?" She still didn't remember Saturday, might as well explain it to her now.
"Do you remember when you were telling me about Cupid and Psyche while I did that magic thing to the wound on your arm?" Her eyes shifted to where the cut had been then went back to me.
"Not really, I fell asleep talking didn't I?" If you count passing out from hyperventilating then yes, she did fall asleep.
"I was fixing your arm and you looked, there was some blood involved, you freaked and we had to tell you. Your reaction then was much worse than now. At some point you saw my fangs and hyperventilated then passed out and long story short you woke up and didn't remember anything."
Her eyebrows went up ever so slightly as I gave her a rough explanation of what happened.
"Why didn't you mention it earlier?"
"From what happened on Saturday why do you think I was hesitant in telling you?" She nodded and pulled up the shirt that fell off one shoulder.
"Fine, you have a point. Can I still see your fangs? I won't to anything crazy." If she'd been laid back up to this point then it's likely she'll be able to deal with fangs.
I dropped onto the bed next to her and she gave me an excited grin.
The only person I could compare her behaviour to right now would be Ray, he had the exact same attitude when Gee told us he was a vampire.
"Okay, watch." I'd look stupid if I showed her with my mouth open so I went for the second thought and smiled with my teeth showing. My fangs fell into place and for a brief moment my teeth felt too big for my mouth but I adapted to the familiar feeling and smiled at Fallyn who looked shocked.
"Huh, you really are a vampire." She moved forward and poked my teeth, checking if they're real probably.
I'm a bit bewildered by her laid backness.
"Are they sharp?" I didn't bother retracting them and spoke through the fangs.
"Yep, they're useless otherwise." It was hard to stop myself from laughing at the curious look on her face.
"Ow, I cut myself." She pulled her hand back and looked at her finger, there was five centimetre cut on it.
I'd actually forgotten how sharp these were.
"You wanna see the part that freaked you out on the bus?" She wiped the blood off her finger and nodded.
Using the tip of my fang I cut my hand and giggled at the look on her face, I don't think she'd expected me to do that. I retracted my fangs and held onto her hand for a moment.
"Give me a finger for a second." Fallyn moved her hand and gave me her injured finger. I pressed the cut on my palm to the cut on her finger.
"So what is it you're doing?" The blood flowed out of my hand and landed out of my leg, there was no doubt it was fixing her finger.
"I'm not sure how it works down to a science but vampire blood heals injuries." Trying to be incredibly dramatic I removed my hand from her finger and she looked at it immediately.
"That's so cool. I wish I could do something like that." Her eyes lit up while looking for the cut that had disappeared from her finger.
Maybe things will go a lot better than I thought.
I loved it. Seriously. You are a fantastic writer, and I cannot wait for the next book!
The only thing that I didn't like was the misspelling of ridiculous. Every time. xD
But otherwise, it was awesome.
