Ray just looked at me horrified. "You know I can't."
"You can and I'm sure that it's the only thing that will bring his memory back." I argued.
"But what if he rejects me like before?"
"Please Ray. I know that it may be difficult but I'm sure that it will work, you're the only person that can help him." I pleaded.
"What about Gerard? They grew up together, maybe he could tell him a story from when they were little or something." Ray argued back.
"It's not just about memory Ray, feelings are a part someone's memory too and you would have brought him the strongest feelings so god dammit, just kiss him." I said.
He hesitated for a second but then he climbed into the back. I sat where he had been sitting and turned to watch.
"Some privacy please." Ray said.
I turned away and waited. I heard a shout of protest and then a silence that lasted for a few seconds and then I heard someone gasping and someone got out of the car. I turned around and saw Mikey sitting in the back looking confused and a little horrified. I saw movement in the corner of my eye and turned to see Ray running past the car, he ran about a hundred metres down the road and then stopped and turned around, looking at the car, then he turned back and looked out at the desert before just sitting down in the middle road with his back to us.
"You keep an eye on Mikey." I said to Gerard as I got out of the car. I just started walking towards Ray, I knew that I would startle him if I ran and I really didn't want him to run away because I'm pretty sure Ray was faster than me and I knew that I wouldn't catch him unless I got the car and by that stage he probably would've run off into the desert. At this stage I don't think he cared what happened to him, he was just upset about Mikey.
Even though he hadn't run very far, the walk down the road felt like it was going to take ten years. But eventually I got there and I sat down next to Ray without saying a word. He was silent as well. I leaned over and hugged him. He didn't hug back.
"It didn't work." he said.
"I know. It wasn't going to work the first time anyway, you just have to keep trying and one day-" I was cut off and Ray leaned away from me.
"Keep trying? You think I can just continue to do that until one day he doesn't protest and kiss me back? You think I can just have my heart shattered everyday and walk away fine?" He asked me. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears, and once again it was my fault.
"I'm sorry." I said quietly. "For all of this shit that I have dragged all of you into. That wasn't what I meant, I guess I just want at least part of Mikey back. I just… sorry. We'll try something else."
"Thanks Frank. But maybe occasionally I could try and y'know." Ray said.
"Only if you want to." I said to him. I stood up and held out my hand to Ray, he took and I helped him up. We walked back to the car and when we got there we could here Gee talking, he sounded really sad.
"- you were really cute. I only vaguely remember it, because I was still really young, but you were and I used to let you play with my toys. When you were older we used get in some stupid arguments, but it was always okay in the end. You were a great brother and I hope that whatever they did to you can be undone, because I miss you and when I thought that you were dead it was the worst day of my life." Gerard finished and looked up from his hands that were in his lap, to me and Ray. He smiled slightly, but I could tell that it wasn't completely genuine. "I want him to remember." Gee said quietly to the both of us.
