Tumbleweed just nodded and looked down at her hands, Cola stared out the window and Exploder, who was obviously extremely uncomfortable, got up and left, we heard a door close down the hall, so he must have gone to his room. The silence continued and I couldn't take it anymore, I left and climbed up to the roof, I don't know what it was about up here, but it just seemed easier to clear my head up here and think. I sat down near one of the corners and lay down so that I was looking up at the sky. There were few clouds, but I knew that some would be starting to show over the horizon, the sky was a lighter blue on one side and starting to darken on the other, it felt like this gradient sky was the only beautiful thing left in this messed up world controlled by evil people. I sighed.
I briefly thought about my recently failed mission and now I was reminded of the real objective, to get on the Getaway Mile and get the hell out of here. But how would we get past the wall? I groaned in frustration and got up, I needed to talk to Gerard and Ray. I made my way back down and opened the door to mine and Gee's room. He was sitting on my bed with his head in his hands and he looked up when I entered. I beckoned for him to follow me and he obliged and followed me next door to Ray's. I opened the door and saw Ray strumming quiet chords on his guitar. He looked up at Gee and I and watched as we sat down with him.
"I need to talk to you both." I started. Neither of them said anything so I continued. "Part of the reason that I went after Korse was for revenge, but there was another reason too, and that was to try and throw off BL/ind and create some kind of distraction for them so that we could ride on the Getaway Mile and the hell out of here. Obviously that failed, now we're probably wanted dead or alive and they already have one of us." I said, looking from Gee to Ray as I spoke.
"Okay." Gerard said. "This time though can Ray and I help with the plan, because this time its much more dangerous than last time and I think we all need to be on the same page."
I nodded and looked to Ray to see if he had any input. "We need to find the location of the Getaway Mile first, and then we have to figure out how to get over the wall."
"Sounds about right." Gee said, looking at the floor.
"So how do we find it?" I asked Ray. He thought for a moment before replying.
"How about we get in contact with Dr Death, he was the one that told us about it, so someone might have told him the location."
Gee got up and Ray and I followed suit, he walked into our room and pulled the communicator out from under the bunk. We headed up to the roof where we would be sure to get the best reception and got in contact with Dr Death.
"What's up Killjoys, this is Dr Death Defying."Came Dr Death's from the other end of the connection.
"This is Party Poison, Jet Star and Fun Ghoul, we were wondering if you had any information about the location of the Getaway Mile." Said Gerard.
Dr Death ignored the question and instead asked another. "Wasn't there another kid with you? Kobra or something?"
"Yea." Gerard barely got out. "Kobra Kid, he was dusted a few days ago when we were in Battery City."
"Well about the Getaway Mile, I don't know its exact location, but I do know that's in the north-east sector of the zones." Dr Death replied to the earlier question.
"Thanks Dr Death." Gerard said.
"Anytime Killjoys." And then the line went to static.
Gee turned the communicator off and we sat in silence for a few seconds.
"This means that we're going to have to search the north-east sector." I said. That was going to be hard, we were currently in the south-east sector and the only road that went into the north-east sector was a road that looped right around the perimeter of Battery City, and Battery City was not a safe place for us to be right now, and the desert was no place to drive cars, you stuck to the road or you were basically writing your own death sentence. We could take the outside roads. They were few miles out from Battery City, but even thought they were miles long, they were easy to get lost on because of all the forks in the road. But right now I think that was our only option.
"We'll have to take the outside roads." I said slowly, still in thought.
"What if we don't find it?" Gee asked.
"If it's where Dr Death said it was, then we'll find it." Ray said.
"What about Cola and Tumbleweed and Exploder?" I asked.
"We'll leave them, I don't entirely trust them. From now on it should just be us three." Ray said.
I looked at Gerard. "Agreed?"
He nodded.
