Chapter 2: Car Trips Are Fun
I was staring out the window at the never ending blackness that surrounded our car, the only light was from the headlights of the car. Ray was snoring from next to me and Mikey was looking ahead at the road and talking to Gee. I started listening to their conversation. "Gee we can't rely on anyone out there, remember what happened with Bob, he just handed us over."
"We got away." Gee replied.
"But we might not be so lucky next time." Mikes responded.
"You're right, but we have to at least put a little trust in someone for directions at least."
"Gerard, it's called a map."
"We don't have a map!" Gee yelled, his frustration was coming out. "Just get some sleep Mikey, we'll figure it out when we get there."
Mikey sighed and leaned his head back. "What do you think, Frank?" he asked.
"From now on we trust no one but each other." I said ending the conversation.
I leaned my head against the wall of the car and looked out at the darkness, I closed my eyes and tried to get some sleep. I was woken up by Ray when the sky was starting to lighten. We had stopped Mikey was already out, his ray gun in hand and circling around the car. I got also and held up my ray gun while Gee and Ray swapped. It was annoying having to be this guarded in the middle of no where, we were stopping for literally a minute. Mikey and I got back in the car, Ray started it up and we were off again. Gee was now in the back next to me and he had his eyes closed, a peaceful look on his face, he must be really tired, from driving all night and all. We had our masks on now, because it was light out we could be seen by anyone that happened to pass, and believe me, we had recognisable faces.

After over five more hours of driving we could see Battery City in the distance. It wasn't how you would imagine a city, there were no skyscrapers and it looked pretty run down, it had been called something else before, but now, because it was the only place in a hundred miles that was inhabited, it was classified as a city. The first place we passed was an abandoned gas station. We stopped the car to see if we could fill up, so we stood there again with our masks on and ray guns out. Mikey went over to vending machine type thing and hooked up a Vend-a-hack that Dr Death had given us, he pressed some buttons and fiddled with it for a bit before two batteries fell out of the machine. Ray walked over and hit the ray gun button and one fell out, he picked it up and high fived Mikey.
The batteries were important, we would need them for the Vend-a-hack and for a few other little machines that we had lying around, and in Battery City you could trade batteries for valuable items. But the ray guns were most important, we would need them on ourselves 24/7 and have them ready at any time, ray guns were designed to have an infinite amount of ammunition, but occasionally they would break down and you were screwed if you didn't have any more.
So after our stop at the gas station, which had been completely looted of all food, we got back in the car and drove on looking for a place to stay. We had decided to stick to the outskirts of the city where it would possibly be more deserted and where there would probably be more of a chance to find a place that hadn't been completely destroyed. Oh, and somewhere with a good garage where we could lock up the car. We would need it later, and we couldn't afford to lose it.
