The Getaway Mile
Chapter 18: Lost and Found
Frank's POV
I looked up at the sky, it looked like the sun was setting, or was it rising? How long had I been in there for? I kicked at the gravel under my feet and looked each way, I shrugged and started walking left, assuming the sun was setting, that was were I would be heading. I pulled off the Scarecrow mask and stuffed it into my bag, I might need it later. I reached the end of the street and looked around. Okay, I was definitely lost. I started to just make my was towards the sun and hope that I wasn't on the other side of the city where I would have to walk through the centre. The city was pretty deserted today, normally a place like this would have people wandering around everywhere, I couldn't help wondering what wrong, and then I walked past a notification board. "City wide lock down. Rogues on the loose. Make sure to stay inside, this message is for your safety." Huh, so I was so dangerous that they had to have a city wide lockdown, how ridiculous. At least it would be easier to find the car, and get away, there would be no one to report me to Siren.
Mikey's POV
I walked behind Gee and Ray as they talked quietly about what we should do. Occasionally Ray would turn around and give me a reassuring smile, and it made me feel a little better. But I couldn't help the feeling in my stomach that maybe Frank wasn't alive. I had lied to Gee before when I had told him that I was sure that Frank was alive, I wasn't even sure myself. But the images in my head of Frank being burned alive, or shot down by Korse, just wouldn't leave my head. The four of us were really close and we had been through a lot together, to lose one of us was like losing an arm or a leg.
"You okay, Mikes." Ray asked, turning towards me.
"Yea." I said. He touched the back of hand and I linked our fingers together. "So what's the plan?" I asked him.
"We're going to go into the city until we get close to the old headquarters, then we'll head south from there where the new replacement headquarters should be. We'll figure out how to get to Frankie from there." Ray explained to me.
I nodded and we continued in silence until we came to a habited area of Battery City. The sun had nearly set and shadow's were falling across the ground, the short buildings casting long shadows, which we stayed hidden in as we carefully made out way towards the city centre. I had unconsciously pulled my ray gun from my belt and my hand was on the trigger.
The old headquarters were in sight now and Gerard turned and nodded at both Ray and I and gestured to an open alleyway between two buildings on the other side of the road. We quickly checked around us and when the coast looked clear we darted out from the shadows and crossed the street to the alleyway, we paused for a second listening for any signs of alarm, indicating that someone had seen us. We were clear. We quietly crept to the end of the alleyway and peered out, there was a Bat walking up the street towards us, Bats were Battery City citizen, Bat was short for Batteries because they were they reason for BL/ind's power and control. We ducked back into the alley and waited for them to pass, they walked by and we remained unnoticed as we darted across the street again. In this area there were lots of gaps between buildings that we could pass through to the next street. We continued like this until we reached an area with hardly any buildings, a large lit up building was down the road about a hundred metres from us and I could see a familiar figure silhouetted against he light. Frankie. We all looked at each other and in the dim light I could see both Ray and Gee smiling, we had found him. We came out of the shadows and started to casually walk down the road towards him. He looked up and spotted us, he immediately brought his hand up and aimed the ray gun at us.
"Frankie, don't shoot!" Gee nearly yelled.
Frank stopped short and his hand lowered. "G-Gee?" he stuttered, shock filling his voice. Gee ran forward and hugged Frank tightly, I ran forward too and Ray followed. We were so happy that we had finally found each other that our guard went down and we all jumped when we heard the mechanical "You're under arrest". Not again.
