The Getaway Mile

Chapter 17: Back To Battery City

Gerard's POV
Ray, Mikey and I walked out into the front room, where Tumbleweed was sitting reading a book. She looked up when we sat down on one of the lounges.
"Hi guys." she said.
"Uh, Tumbleweed, can we ask you for a favour?" I asked nervously. What if she said no?
"Yea, I guess." she said, putting her book down.
"We were wondering if we could borrow one of the cars to take into Battery City to find Ghoul." I said carefully, I had a feeling she would say no.
"Yea, sure. I understand that you want to find your friend. Oh and I won't be mad if you don't bring it back, just make sure that you come back alive please." She said looking at all of us.
"Thank you, so much." I said to her.
She nodded. "So when do you leave?"
"Tonight." Mikey and I said at the same time. We looked at each other and I smiled.
"Well, good luck." Tumbleweed said as she picked her book back up.
We got up and walked down the hallway. I went into my room and Mikey and Ray followed. I started to pull out our bags of supplies that Frank had left us. We took them out to one of the cars and started to load it up with our stuff, we couldn't leave it here, there was some valuable stuff in those bags, and some food that we would definitely need.
Once we had loaded up the car, we went back inside to say goodbye to Tumbleweed, Cola and Exploder. They wished us good luck and it was awkward for a few seconds before we just said bye and walked out. Even though we had been here a few days, we hadn't really become good friends with them or anything. And just like that, we were on the road again, heading straight towards Battery City. We talked on the way there about we should do, we had assumed that Frank would go straight there and then park the car somewhere in the outskirts, if we could locate the car, we would have a better idea of which direction he might have taken. Actually getting into the heart of Battery City would be difficult, considering that the place would probably be crawling with Scarecrows while they rebuilt their headquarters. Going out at night was our best option, but while we still had daylight, we would be looking for the car. We still had a few hours left, so we got out of the car and starting searching.
Frank would have hidden it somewhere out of sight, were it couldn't be easily spotted, so we checked in bits of bush and scrub where it could be concealed. About three streets down from where we had parked we found it. Well, that was easy. Ray opened up the boot to see if he had left anything behind and I looked over his shoulder. Empty, except for the spare tyre and the replacement tools. Ray slammed the boot and turned back to us.
"So what now?" Mikey asked.
"We'll park the trans am with the other car, so that we can take both of them if we need to make a quick getaway." Ray replied, as he got in the car. Mikes and I followed and he started the car and drove back to the other car.
"And now to Battery City." Mikey said quietly.
I would like to say that we walked off into the sunset to meet our destiny, but that crap, doesn't exist in real life, because we were actually walking off towards the short buildings of Battery City to meet our impending doom.

Notes

Short chapter, and not my best, but I'm building up to something.
