Blind to the truth
New in town
Gerard [P.O.V.]
Being the new guy in town is pretty bad, but to be honest maybe the move is for the best. Mikey sleeps in the passenger seat of my old truck, he seems to be down for the count his blonde bangs fall in his face. His mouth is gapping and he snores so loud that I can't control my giggles. He doesn't believe me when I say that he snores so I just quit trying to convince him of the truth.
I keep my dark eyes on the road pretending that my old life never happened. It's strange to think that my parents were dead. They were in this early fifties so to attend their funeral really killed me. As much as I loathed my mother and resented my father I loved them. They raised me and to say so myself they did a pretty awesome job.
I heard a quiet huff from Mikey that breaks me from my depressing thoughts. He rolls his head over and whispers "We there yet?"
I laugh at him "No shit face we aren't."
His eyes roll and he closes his lids again passing back out. We maybe had two miles before we hit town. I hope that maybe me and Mikey won't have the difficulty we had in our home town fitting in. Mikey is seemingly normal guy just turning 21 years old but him being my brother causes people to hate him. I ruin everything for Mikey because I can't keep my sarcastic sassy comments to myself and being gay in a highly catholic town didn't help our situation.
I drive past a large green sign announcing our arrival in the small town. I have no regard for the name on the sign because this is but a stop in my life until I find my destination. I nudged Mikey to wake him up. He looked over "What Gee?"
I whisper "We're here."
He looks up out the front windows and sighs "Well, this must be our new shithole."
I just keep driving just a little bit farther. I see the little house that I rented and pull into the drive way. I park my old truck and step out. Mikey follows still a little groggy. I look at him "Grab some boxes bro." He does and I do the same we begin to move in and finally finish with our six boxes of possessions.
Inside the house is a small living room with a bay window that needed a good cleaning. I look out it to see a man with the largest afro I have ever seen he looks in smiling. I wave and wish I hadn't now he's walking to the door. He knocks three times before Mikey answers it "Hello?"
The man smiles "Hi, I'm Ray Toro your new neighbor!"
I hiss "I'm Gerard Way this is my little brother Mikey."
He smiles and waves "Nice to meet you two!" He walks away and I smile while Mikey grabs his box and goes to his room. I grab mine as well and walk to my new bedroom. Inside is an old metal bed and it looked sad, bare, and lonely. I start to put my blue sheets onto the old withered matress. I see the blank walls staring into my soul and know I need to fix them up and throw on some posters and pictures trying to relive the bittersweet memories of my old life I was supposed to escape. The conflict of what I wanted raged in my mind as I finished unpacking and decorating my solemn and lonely room. I finally placed a happy picture of me and Mikey at a family picnic smiling in the bright sunlight. I miss the happiness...
