Us vs. Them
Your Arms Are My Castle
I took a deep breath and looked over at my brother.
My brother.
"Taylor..?" I heard him choke out.
"Ray..." I whispered.
I took off in a high run towards him, meeting him halfway. He caught me in his arms and lifted me off the ground, squeezing me. I wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my face in his long hair. He was the first to pull away, his dead eyes looking into mine. He peeled my dry hair off of my sticky face and tucked it behind my ear. His eyes glistened with tears that I know he would never want to fall. He bit his lip and kissed my face, covering every inch.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, still holding me.
"Um.. I actually don't know."
He set me back down on the ground and took my left hand. "It isn't safe for you out here, you know that, right?"
"I know, I know. But you seem to forget who my brothers are." I winked at him and we walked into the house again.
Frank and Mikey were playing some old Sega games and Chaos was cleaning my shotguns. Poison walked in from the bathroom and smiled at us.
"I see you found him," Chaos smiled at me. She nodded towards Ray and he nodded back. They've never really gotten along.
"Yeah. I guess I did." I smiled up at my brother, who kissed my hair.
"Whose retro artillery?" he asked, gesturing towards the guns.
Chaos and I laughed as she cocked one and handed it over to me.
"No fucking way!" Ray bellowed.
"There's two of 'em right there," I gestured towards Gerard and Mikey, smiling at my own joke.
"You? You can shoot?" He stared at me disbelievingly.
"Yup." I flashed a smile.
"She's pretty accurate, to be quite honest." Chaos said from behind a pair of spectacles, focusing on her RayGun, which had been damaged.
"Prove it," Gerard smirked.
We went outside and Mikey brought out 15 targets and set them up in various places around the yard. Chaos and I snickered to each other because we knew they were in for a show.
"Remember: If you miss a few, we won't judge you," Frank started. "You're still healing."
"Okay.." I sighed.
"Ready?" Chaos whispered to me. I nodded in response and cocked my gun.
"TO YOUR LEFT!" she barked and I aimed, hitting the "Drac" square in the chest.
I cleared my mind and focused on the task at hand. I pictured the poker faces of Dracs, the red of their lips, their white faces. The gun bucked back against my shoulder, leaving bruises no doubt. Chaos, of course, made it difficult for me, creating little obstacles and whatnot. She pushed a barrel down my path, making me flip over it. I landed back on the ground, my right leg out to my side as I crouched on my left.
"KORSE!" she shouted, as my gun had used up my last round of ammo.
I pushed myself back, grabbing Frank's Bowie knife and threw it at the scarecrow used as Korse, hitting him square in his forehead, knocking his head off.
I sat back on the ground, panting. Sweat trickled down my back, leaving my shirt soaked. My hair was sticking to my face and I was still breathing hard. My hands were blistered from the sweat and friction of the gun. Chaos helped me up, smiling. We looked back to see the boys' faces: fucking priceless.
"You were saying?" I asked, walking past them, picking up the shells.
"That..was..INCREDIBLE!" Frank yelled, laughing. "Holy shit!"
"Have you always been that good?" Mikey asked me, ruffling my hair.
"Sorta," I answered.
"Well, it's a good thing we have you around, yeah?" He looked over to his brother.
"We'll see.." is all he said. Typical, really.
"Ray?" I asked.
He just stared at me in disbelief, shaking his head. "I can't believe it.. My own sister.. Better than I am."
I just laughed with Chaos as we walked back inside.
My brother.
