Kill me or make me feel alive
I don’t want this moment to ever end
Nothing can quite compare to the longing feeling I have for the mortal who I dared saving from myself. And this, is honestly frightening, even for a vampire like me. The first time in, oh, so long I find myself desiring something and I cannot stop thinking about it. I can’t put the thought of him out of my head for too long and this is an obstacle when it comes to hunting. I cannot concentrate and this way, my power is less and I have to put more effort in a simple feeding.
See? I’ve taken people for simple food even though I let their pathetic little lives untouched, I never kill them. Then what might possibly be so different about that human? But I will soon find out, I suppose.
Perhaps it is because of the constant thoughts in my head that I can’t push aside or I might feel him thinking about me, but the reason does not matter as I drive with my car to his house, then knock on his door and after a couple of moments see his face peering through it. I wouldn’t have a problem to talk to his parents if they have answered but it feels good to see him so I smile a little. When he realizes who I am, he opens the door all the way and smiles as well, but more awkwardly, like he doesn’t know what to do or say next. He has luck though, I always know what to say.
“Do you want me to take you out? It would be pleasure for me”, I ask, the smile on my face going big and convincing. He looks at me with wonder but I feel the darkness that surrounds him slowly stepping aside and giving room for happier thoughts.
“I…but it’s- I don’t- Sure”, he looks like he’s struggling for an answer but he finally agrees.
“Okay then. Let’s go”, he shakes his head and tells me he has to do something quickly first so I’m left standing at his door as he tiptoes down the corridor and disappears into one of the rooms.
A few minutes later, he comes to the door in a rush, looking rather excited and we’re finally ready to go. I give him my hand and he grins a little, putting his delicate hand in my own as we go to my car. Once we’re in the vehicle and I start the engine, he asks me where we’re going. Of course he has to ask.
‘I mean, it’s past midnight and all…”, he leans against the passenger seat, rolling his head in my direction.
“I know a place you would like, Gerard”, I smile knowingly without taking my eyes off the road.
“So… you just decided to take me out on a Saturday night, two weeks after…um, and you…why?”, he furrows his eyebrows. Adorable. Stop it.
“Why do you think I did it?”, I continue smiling, I love little games.
“Well, you tell me”
“Can’t you guess yourself?”, I challenge.
“U-umm…so it wasn’t random, like “Oh, why not go to that Gerard-guy I’ve met only once and take him out in the middle of the night”, huh?” ,he smiles again.
“No. Although I must confess, I don’t have a choice when it comes to when I go out, so the part with the night, it’s a necessity for me, I guess you can call it ‘random’. I didn’t exactly plan on it.”
“Oh, yes… but then what made you come to me?”, he looks thoughtfully at the passing scenery in front of us.
“And what made you answer the door?”, I asked, never failing to retort. He looks at me confused and thinks for a moment or two.
“Uh, what do you mean, I j-just…wasn’t asleep, I guess”
“Right, you weren’t. And what thoughts occupied your mind so you couldn’t sleep?”
“O-oh. I… didn’t know you could feel that”, he looks out of the window but from what I can see, his face is burning with all shades of red.
“I couldn’t be sure if I felt you thinking about me or it was just me, thinking about you that made me go to your house”, I look at him but my gaze meets the back of his head. He turns around and looks at me with wide eyes just as I turn my attention to the road again. I know he’s about to ask something, but he gives up and we drive in silence for a while.
“Where are we going?”, he asks and straightens himself, after we leave the city.
“Calm down, I’m not going to kidnap you or something. And we’re going somewhere beautiful, that’s all you need to know”, I smirk.
“Okay”, he says and visibly relaxes. I know he trusts me.
I will show him my place. All these years, had this been the only place I could go to and feel peaceful. And as much as I hate my vampire nature, I will always bow down before night, it’s like a loving mother or a soft warm blanket- they both can somehow make you feel safe. I’m its child, a creature made of darkness. It’s in me. It is me.
So, this place is really special to me. The stars are brighter than in the city and, trust me, the view is spectacular. Nothing like the night sky in the city. It has made me cry and not many things are capable of that. This is probably the only thing that has ever made me cry, apart from Ray. But that’s a different story.
I haven’t showed this place to anyone and I’m somewhat excited, yet nervous. But I strongly believe he’ll appreciate it as much as I do. I need it to have the same effects on him- I need him to have a place where he’d feel in peace and safe.
It’s basically a huge cliff where the whole city can be seen from, with all its lights, illuminating everything down there. And the gorgeous night sky, as I already mentioned. It makes you feel big, like you’re standing on top of the world. It makes you feel special
After we park the car between some trees in front of the place, I quickly tell him to close his eyes and to wait. I step out of the car, going to his side and open the door for him.
“*Aprés vous” ,I say, hoping he would get it by the hand gesture. He giggles a little and hides his face behind his raven black hair a little as he takes my outstretched hand once again and closes his eyes. This time, though, we don’t let go of each other, for he can’t even see. I lead him to the cliff. I love the astonished look on his face when I tell him to open his eyes and the scenery shows in front of him.
“Wow”, he breathes after a few seconds of just standing close to me, lost in admiration and still holding my hand.
“Indeed”, I answer, smiling and looking in the same direction as him. He turns around to face me and I look at him as well. He’s grinning infectiously from ear to ear and it’s melting.
I stare at him for too long, so long that I didn’t even realize he was getting closer and now he’s hugging me, his hands tightly wrapped around my neck.
“Thank you, Frank. This is the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen”, he whispers, his lips lightly touching my shoulder with every word that’s spoken.
“I’m glad you like it”, I smile but I suddenly realize I’m too close to his neck. So close, I’m deafened by the sound of his pulse. I quickly pull away, afraid I might do something unpleasant. As soon as I pull away, I see his confused eyes and try to explain.
“No, I didn’t… I was too close, you know”
“O-oh… but you can control yourself, can’t you?”, he asks me, looking almost sympathetic.
How do I explain this? Yes, I can, but you’re just too much. For some reason, everything seems too much to me- the scent of your pure pale skin, your innocence, your sorrow, your movements and the way you actually chose to believe me. How do I explain it?
I slowly shake my head with somewhat sad eyes.
“Oh, come oon. You did stop before you killed me. So you can do it again. Come here and don’t worry, if you bite me, you can just pull away, okay? “, he wraps me in his warm arms and I feel like a damn child.
Only I know how much effort I put that night to stop before it was too late. To stop draining the thick sweet blood off his veins. It’s even harder now, since for my vampire instincts, he’s even more attractive victim because I know him and I want him in every way possible, but at the same time, I’m so determined to control my want and need.
I wrap my hands around his waist and pull him close dominantly, trailing my hands up and down his back. Just as the wind becomes colder and the trees’ branches create some eerie melody, I lower my head and I feel him shiver once again, just like the first time. This time, though, I gather all my self-control and don’t pierce his skin, nor do I bury my fangs in his pulsating vein. Instead, I put a gentle kiss on his neck and let my lips ghost over the spot longer, breathing icy cold air and making him shiver more. I slowly pull away and he hides in my neck and in his hair so I can’t see him. But oh, I can definitely feel him.
“See? You did it”, he whispers. I only smile and nod, then he lifts his head to look at me.
“I’m cold”, he says “It’s windy up here”
“Ah, I completely forgot you’d be cold. I should’ve told you to dress with something warmer. I would’ve hugged you if I could give you any warmth…”, I say “But would you like to get in the car, I can turn the heating on”, I suggest, cursing myself for being so damn foolish. Of course he’d be cold, humans can actually suffer from the cold.
“Yes, it’d be nice”, he smiles, breathing out a visible breath. We both climb in the vehicle and I switch on the heating.
After a couple of minutes, he leans into me and wraps his hands around my torso, laying his head on my chest.
“Still cold?”, I half-ask, half-state. He nods and says something incomprehensible which sounds mostly like ‘mmyamm’.
“But I cannot warm you, Gerard, I already told you. I’m always cold”, I sigh sadly and put my chin on top of his head, running my cold long fingers through his silky hair and playing with a small strand of it.
“Yeah, well I’m sure that both of us will be warmer than ever very soon”, he smiles sweetly at me and we stay like this for the night; cuddled in each other, watching the dark sky, adorned with countless bright stars. Having not a single care in the world. For now.
See? I’ve taken people for simple food even though I let their pathetic little lives untouched, I never kill them. Then what might possibly be so different about that human? But I will soon find out, I suppose.
