”G-GERArd?” I couldn’t swallow. No, no this can’t be happening. He was passed out on the floor outside the door. “Frank, come help me get him to the guest bedroom please.”
Frank looked as stunned as I did. We picked him up and brought him to the bedroom, carefully laying him on the bed. Frank shook his head an left. I went into the bathroom and got a damp towel. When I returned to the room I placed it on his forehead and leaned up against the wall. Before I knew it I was crying.
I silently slid down the wall, trying not to wake him. Why was he doing this? I sat there for however long when Frank came back in.
“I’m going to bed Sky, it’s 11:30.” He came over and gave me a hug. “G’nite”
“Night Frank, I’m going to stay here in case he comes to.” I said, not looking up at him. I didn’t want him to know I had been crying.
“You shouldn’t be so nice to him, Skylar. I can see you’re pretty torn up about this. But I’m here for you.” He got up and left the room, quietly closing the door behind him.
I sat there for a while longer, and then got up and went into the kitchen. I got a glass of water and the aspirin out to the cabinet; know Gerard was going to need it. I also grabbed my laptop, to kill time until he got up.
I quietly went back into his room, grabbing the blanket off the couch. I put the pills and water on the bedside table and wrapped myself up in the blanket, curling up in the chair. I opened my laptop and web surfed for an hour or so. Near 2 in the morning, Gerard began to stir.
I took my head phones off and looked over at him. His eyes were open, and staring at the ceiling.
“Gerard?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
He looked over at me. “I fucked up, Sky. I got kicked out of my apartment. I got drunk. I don’t know what to do. I guess I just came here out of habit.”
“It’s okay, Gee.” I said, getting up. I went over to the water, and handed it to him, along with the pills. He sat up, wincing. I sat next to him. “You can stay here, with Frank and I. We’d love you to.”
