The Darkheart Killjoy
You Left My Heart An Open Wound
As Kyra made her way into town, she found herself holding onto Mikey’s hand, scared to let go and find out she was just dreaming. Lost in her thoughts, the next thing she knew Kyra was sat outside a small, quiet cafe on the edge of town, it was peaceful there, and with Mikey by her side, for the first time in a long time, she felt completely at ease. There were a couple of people walking around, going into the little family owned buildings that was so rare to find now a days.
There used to be tons, but after the war no-one could afford to rebuild them so better living started buying all the wreckages, to make big, modern malls. It made her sad to think that soon the entire world could be owned by better living, a world of fake smiles, and fake people. There just seemed to be no stopping them. Not that she had ever thought of trying to stop them before...
People think of them as good because with them owning everything including police and army there seems to be no wars and life is supposed to be perfect, but, Kyra thought, humans aren’t perfect so surely there is something wrong with trying to force perfection on people like this.
“You okay?” Mikey said snapping Kyra out her daydream, A long blonde haired waitress smiled at him before placing two lattes down on the table and retreating quickly.
“You seem sad” he continued, his voice layered with concern...
“Oh it’s nothing” she lied
“I’m fine”
“Don’t worry, your safe. I won’t let anything happen to you”
"I know" she replied a little too quickly. And with that Kyra shuffled up until she was as close to him as possible, she then placed her head on his shoulder letting him lace his arms around her. Right at that point all the worries Kyra had held onto for so long where forgotten. All she could think of was how safe and warm she felt in his arms.
They must have been like for at least half an hour, but to Kyra it felt like just a few seconds, when suddenly they heard a raygun fire coming from the distance. They looked up to see many shapes moving towards them. As she stayed, locked up with shock, they began to become visible to her, and she instantly recognised them as the 'Dracs' Mikey warned her about so many times in her dreams.
“Shit” was all Mikey said before he picked the terrified girl up and carried her away from the mindless creatures.
“Go home” he ordered before dropping Kyra in a small, dark, unfamiliar alley way.
“But...why...what about you” She was almost in tears at the thought of something at shooting him
“Argg...JUST GO!" he shouted as he grabbed for a gun that had been concealed in his pocket,
Kyra backed up, shocked at the venom in his voice. Quickly Mikey turned around and started running towards the Dracs, shooting bright red lazers as he went. Kyra just stood there and watched. To petrified to move. To think. They cornered him!
“Well well well” she heard a dark voice say.
Why couldn’t she see what they were doing to him? She cursed herself for not being tall enough to see into the ring of Dracs
“So much trouble, all for hiding one little girl. Who is she Kobra?” Kobra? Kyra thought, Briefly, Of course they don’t know his real name. She smiled smugly, feeling slightly honoure
“She's just a stressed college girl. She's pretty, I was bored wanted to see if I could hitch a quick ride with her. You know how I am.”
A sudden shock of pain shot threw her. In response to his reply.
Tears streaked down her face. Her fists clenched. It took all her strength not to scream. She didn’t care anymore. He never cared. Why was she so stupid? Not wanting to hear or watch the rest she turned around and legged it down the alley way, which, ended up leading her straight home.
