Not So Bulletproof Hearts

Kat's POV


My eyes welled up with tears as I crouched down next to Frank's car. “Don’t worry.” He said as he comforted me and embraced me in a hug. “I won’t let her hurt you again. She’ll have me to deal with first.” He kissed the top of my head. Suddenly I heard the bell ring, wiping the tears away from my eyes for a moment I saw all the students racing through the front doors. After all that we’re late anyway, I thought to myself.

Frank had noticed the bustling crowd too and seemed to be deep in thought. “If we go in now we’ll have detention for sure. Why don’t we just skip school? I know somewhere we can go.” Sniffling the last of my tears away, Frank pulled me up off the floor. “I guess you’re right. I don’t fancy detention my on first week.” Frank unlocked the car and we both got in. He drove off down the street in a different direction to usual.

“Who is Shiloh?” I asked curiously. Frank sighed loudly, he seemed to be filled with regret. “After my bands first single went viral, Gerard, the lead vocalist threw a party. He’s quite a part animal you know. I had a bit too much to drink as I got caught up in the celebrations and that’s when I met Shiloh. I can’t really remember what happened next. All I recall was waking up in her apartment.” The solemn look on his face disappeared and he began laughing. “I’m not gonna lie, I was terrified to think I’d slept with her, but I don’t know for sure if I did or not. So I’m not too worried.” I giggled, secretly hoping he hadn't.

We parked up outside a small house; it was entirely red brick with a little garden in front of it. There were no flowers, just slightly over grown grass. A typical guy’s house. As simple as can be. “This is Gerard and Mikey’s place. We can crash here till schools over. Gerard won’t mind and Mikey is out anyway.” We started to walk towards the front door, I was beginning to get a little shy and walked as close to Frank as I could without tripping either of us up. He opened the door to a small hallway with a stair case at the end, the house smelled of stale cigarettes and Lynx. Frank walked over to the stairs whilst I just stood in the door awkwardly. “HEY! GET UP LAZY ASS!” Frank shouted up the stairs making me jump slightly.

I heard slow, tedious movement from above and a loud groan from the landing. I wasn’t sure what to expect, Gerard. Or maybe a zombie? “You look rough man. Hangover?” A very tired looking boy with bright red hair slumped down on the bottom step, he held his head in his hands and nodded. “Gee, this is Kat, we’re hanging out here for a bit because we were late and didn’t want detention. Is that cool with you?” Gerard tilted his head up to look at me, I smiled and extended my arm in hope for him to shake my hand. He high fived me instead and a lazy smile crept upon his face. “Yeah, you can stay here as long as you want. Do you guys want any coffee? I’m gonna go make some.”

We both refused his offer and Frank lead me down to the basement. Down there was a couch and a small makeshift stage in the corner with a microphone stand laid on it. In front of the couch was a coffee table with countless beer cans cluttering it. “Guess they had a party last, and Gee still hasn’t cleared up.” Frank threw some of the cans into a bag and put them next to the couch, clearing room for Gerard to put his coffee down.

I sat down and Frank came to join me. Gerard turned up moments later with an empty cup and an entire jug of coffee. He threw himself down next to Frank, causing him to shuffle closer to me. Frank threw his arm over my shoulder, my heart skipped a beat. He looked at me, blushing slightly. “I hope you don’t mind. It just makes it more comfortable.” I smiled and nuzzled into the nook of his neck. “angel.” I couldn’t get over that. It was so sweet.

I glanced over at Gerard to see him finishing his first cup of coffee and licking his lips. He looked a bit more alive than earlier, he now had a spark in his eyes. “So, are you doing her?” Gerard asked, nudging Frank in the arm. “No, I met her yesterday and we’re just getting to know each other. Geez, Gerard, can’t I be just friends with a girl?” he laughed and raised his eyebrows at Frank. “Well you can I guess but with you I don’t keep it up. Knowing you, you’ll end up asking her out soon.” By now Frank was bright red, I could tell that the more Gerard was talking about what a lady’s man Frank is the more embarrassed he became. I let out a loud giggle and winked at him. Gerard didn’t see, he was burying his face in yet another cup of coffee. Frank leaned over and whispered in my ear “he’s exaggerating you know. I’m not really like that. I’d be really lucky if you were my girlfriend, I’d probably have to fight off hoards of guys to get you. But there’s no harm in trying, Angel.” I giggled and pulled my sleeves over my hands, little does he know I’m crazy about him.

We fell asleep on the couch for a while, I awoke a few hours later to find Gerard had gone and Frank was still asleep, he must have pulled me up onto his lap when I was asleep, with his arms wrapped around me in a tight, safe embrace. I’d never felt so comfortable with a guy I just met. I yawned and stretched my legs, I felt his hands move up my body. I giggled and turned to look at him, his eyes fluttered open and the pulled me closer. His forehead pressed against mine. “Look at us. We’re not friends, I want to be so much more than that.” I held my breath as he brought up my hand and kissed it gently. “I can hardly control myself around, I don’t know what it is but your just so amazing, and everything about you is so perfect. I think I love you, angel…” He slipped his fingers between mine and kissed me softly, quietly whispering as he pulled away. “Be my girlfriend…?”
