Not So Bulletproof Hearts
Famous Last Words
Kats POV
I awoke late the next morning to the sound of Mikey and Gerard arguing. “Frank.” I whispered. “Frank, wake up.” He opened one eye and groaned. “I’m going to the kitchen to see what those two are arguing about.” Frank smiled and released me from his grasp. I got up from the couch and stretched my arms, making a sound that was somewhat like a baby dinosaur. “WELL IT’S YOUR FAULT GEE!” I heard Mikey yelling as I sleepily walked into the kitchen frowning at them both. “Okay, okay. Stop the pair of you! What’s going on?” Gerard flipped his hair back put his hand on his hip in a very sassy fashion. “well someone lost all his plectrums yesterday.” He said, rolling his eyes at Mikey. “I gave you the bag with them in! You’re the one that lost them, Gerard!”
“Shut up both of you!” I screamed. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I thought for a few moments before opening my mouth again. “Have either of you checked in the car? They might have fallen under the seat.” A light of understanding broke on Gerard’s face. “Guess I never thought to look there.” Slipping on a pair of combat boots Gerard grabbed his car keys and ran out to check. I groaned and walked over to the kitchen table where I’d let my phone. I turned it on and checked for messages. “1 unread message – Mom.” I tapped the screen and opened it.
**I’m sorry we haven’t been home for a long time now but your grandfather is having trouble coping. We need to stay with him for a while. It might be a couple of months before we can return. I’m sending $200 a week to your credit card so you can pay for food and anything else you might need. Stay safe, sweetie. If you need us just call or come and visit. Don’t skip school without a good reason though! We love you. Be careful. Xx**
I sighed deeply as I scanned through the message. If anything I preferred living on my own, but somewhere deep inside me I missed them a bit. “Uhh… I found them Mikey…they were under the seat.” Gerard called as the came in the front door. Mikey was leaning against the counter looking very smug. “Told you it was your fault, Gerard.” Gee screwed his nose up at him as he took off his boots again. At that moment laughter ran through the kitchen. “You two will never grow up will you.” I turned around to see Frank standing in the door rubbing his eyes and smiling. Mikey smirked in response but Gerard just blushed and turned away from us, ashamed at his childish actions. Frank walked up behind me and hooked his arms around my waist, kissing my neck simultaneously. “So what shall we do today, angel?”
I giggled and turned to face him. “We’ll you’re going soon so shall we start taking some of my clothes back to my house.” Frank sighed and a sympathetic crept upon his face. “Yeah, okay.” I kissed his cheek, ran out of the kitchen, and went back down to the basement to get my clothes. Can’t believe after today I’ve only got a week left with Frank. What will I do when he’s gone? I mean I’ve got Brie and Andy but things will be so different without the guys. No more parties, no more crazy, dramatic scenarios. That’s gonna take some getting used to. I sighed deeply and tried to think optimistically about it. Scooping a pile of my clothes from the stage I stuffed them into my AC//DC duffle bag and threw it over my shoulder. ‘Pull yourself together Kat. Your independent, you don’t have to rely on Frank for everything.’ Once again my conscience was advising me from a far corner of my mind, she was right though. I can cope.
“I’m ready!” I said optimistically as I stepped into the kitchen pulling my hair up in a bun. Frank was stood with his elbows on the counter propping him up. Lighting up his cigarette he nodded to me and took a drag. “Okay, angel. Let’s go.” He said walking out of the kitchen, grabbing my hand as he walked past. His fingers linked between mine and we walked out to his car. I threw my bag on the back seat and jumped in the passenger seat. I looked over to see Frank staring anxiously at the wheel. “I something wrong, Frank?” I tilted my head, furrowing my eyebrows at him. “Angel. This is the first time I’ve drove since the accident.” He stared at me solemnly, biting his lip. “Don’t worry.” I said comfortingly. “You can do it. You’ve been driving for ages. I feel safe when you’re driving. You’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
Frank smiled awkwardly at me and put the key in ignition. The car roared to life, it seemed to run a lot smoother than before. Frank gripped the wheel tightly and pulled the car off the Kerb. “See your fine.” I said optimistically. Frank smiled and some of the worry lifted from his face. “My mom texted me earlier, they’re not coming home.” Frank raised his eyebrow and put one hand on my thigh, caressing me with his thumb. “Are you gonna be okay?” I sighed and looked out the window, watching the fields as we passed them, each one a slightly different shade of green. “Yep. I’ll be okay, I promise.” Frank turned on to my street and gazed out of the window optimistically. “I won’t be gone forever you know, Kat. I’ll come back for you. Even if it’s the last thing I do. I promise I’ll come back for you.”
We strolled up the path to my front door, the garden was quite overgrown now after weeks of neglect and the absence of my parents. I stepped on the cold stone porch and pressed my hand against the door. The paint was beginning to peal, flaking off beneath my nails. My dad said he was going to repaint it but that was before the whole scenario with my grandparents happened. I fumbled around in my pockets and pulled out my house key, turning it slowly in the lock pushed it open via the large brass door knob. The hall was dark and eerie. Just one patch of light from the window in the kitchen shone down on the marble floor, I quietly stepped in and Frank followed close behind. I fumbled around in the dark, rubbing my hand on the wall to find the light switch. The light flickered on. “That’s it. I can’t wait any longer.” Frank picked me up unexpectedly causing me to scream, he carried me up the stairs and kicked my bedroom door open.
He threw me on to the bed, I bounced and flopped down on the duvet, laughing to myself. Frank pinned himself down on top of me and kissed me passionately, crashing his lips on to mine. He detached his lips from mine and whispered in my ear “Let’s make the most of it, yeah?” I giggled and agreed with him. Biting gently on the weak spot on my neck he pulled off my tee shirt and then his. He kissed me passionately again, my hands were trembling as I slipped them down his body and went to work unfastening his belt. I raised my arm to throw it across the room. Moving his lips from my mouth his kiss travelled down my neck as he unhooked my bra and slipped it off. “Lift your arms up.” He ordered seductively. I did as he said and he used my bra to tie my arms to the bed head, looping the straps around my hands. His kiss carried on moving further down my body, I was quivering at each kiss. His touch felt amazing but it was even more enticing since I couldn’t touch him.
Franks POV
After not one but two rounds of hot passionate sex I collapsed my body on the bed next to Jade and proceeded to catch my breath. “Wow, I’m gonna miss you.” I said between heavy breaths. Kat smiled at me and shuffled into my arms. I held her tightly and closed my eyes. “Don’t go…” she said. Kats voice was so quiet I barely heard her. I opened my eyes, gulping back the tears I held her closer, my heart beating rhythmically with hers. “I Have to. I need to.” Kat looked longingly into my eyes. That look made my heart melt. I pulled her head closer to mine and kissed her forehead, the first of my heart broken tears pricked the corners of my eyes. Kat closed her eyes and slipped into a peaceful sleep in my arms. I stayed awake, just watching her, protecting her, appreciating every second she was laying in my arms. “I love you.” I whispered in her ear as she slept.
The week passed a lot faster than I wanted it too. I decided I’d stay with Kat at her house, we just spent every day together. The days passed like hours, there wasn’t enough time. I didn’t want to leave her but then I had no choice, I couldn’t turn down a once in a life time possibility. I wished every day I could take her with me, to travel the country performing with my girl watching me in the crowd. But alas, I can’t.
Kats POV
The alarm sounded on the bedside table. ‘7:00am’. It was Friday morning. I turned to face Frank and watched as he laid next to me, his chest rising and falling with each breath. It was the last time I’d wake up to his gorgeous face for a long time. “Frank. It’s Friday. Wake up.” The words trembled as they fell from my lips. Already I was trying not to cry. Frank’s eyes fluttered open and he gazed at me silently, he leaned forward and kissed my lips passionately, gratefully I kissed him back. “This is it.” He whispered as the pulled back. I sighed and pulled myself out of bed. My hands were shaking as I opened my wardrobe, I pulled out a panic! At the disco top and my black skinny jeans. Frank fled to the bathroom to change. After pulling up my jeans I sat down on the edge of my bed and sighed. Tears began to fill my eyes but I fought them back and took to putting on my converse. Frank soon came back in holding his leather jacket. “I want you to keep this angel. Keep it till I get back yeah?” I nodded and took it from him, biting my lip to stop me from bursting into tears.
The drive to Gerard’s house seemed to fly by, time had almost run out, this was it. I’m losing my saviour, my love, my soul mate. I breathed in deeply, holding back the tears still. We pulled up to Gerard’s house seconds later, the guys were already outside with bags and instruments at hand. I got out of the car and stood awkwardly in front of them as Frank got his bags out of the trunk. I forced a smile at Gerard who threw his arms around me. “I’m gonna miss not having you around, Kat.” I pulled back and nodded in response. Next was Mikey, he pushed his glasses back over his eyes which were welling with tears and hugged me awkwardly. Then Ray, who put on a brave face and embraced me and a tight but rough hug “Take care of yourself, Kat.” I sniffled back the tears once again. “I will.” I said in a shaky voice. “That’s the last of it.” Frank said from over my shoulder. Gerard walked over to him and helped him load all the bags into Gerard’s car. Ray pushed Frank aside and offered to help, gestured his head towards me and a light of understanding broke on Franks Face.
Frank walked over to me and gripped my hands, glazing longingly into my eyes. “I love you angel, never forget that. I promise I’ll be back as soon as I can.” finally the tears began to stream down my face. He took a shaky breath and continued. “I want you to take my car, keep her in check while I’m gone. Okay?” I nodded and took the keys from his hand. Franks eyes grew red and tears pricked the corners of his eyes too. He stepped forward and ran his hand through my hair and his other hand around my waist. His lips crashed on to mine for the last time. That same shot of electricity ran through my body, but this time it was stronger than ever, his love was coursing through my veins making my entire body shake. “C’mon Frank. We need to get going if were gonna make it to Cali on time.” Gerard’s voice echoed through my head as Frank detached his lips from mine. His final words fell from his lips as beautifully as ever. “Wait for me, angel.”
