Not So Bulletproof Hearts

Keeping it casual.

Kats POV

After hours of procrastinating in front of the television I decided to head into the kitchen to get some lunch. Frank showed no signs of returning any time soon so I took to making myself a sandwich from what food was left. I opened the fridge door and stood motionless in front of it, scanning the shelves for something remotely tasty. Uhh… milk, lettuce, bacon, butter, tomato… think I’ll make a bacon sandwich.

I was frying the bacon in a pan as I heard the latch on the door click open. I froze and listened as footsteps slowly echoed around my house, first to the stairs, followed by a long pause. Then to the living room, again followed by a long pause and finally to the kitchen. The door creaked open and I averted my eyes in its direction. “Hey, angel. Sorry I’m so late. Gerard called me for an emergency band meeting about a gig that’s coming up.” Frank smiled sheepishly at me and held his behind his back.

“Okay.” I replied bluntly and went back to turn over my slices of bacon which were hissing violently in the pan. I breathed in deeply, essentially feeling pieces of my broken heart falling, sighing loudly I turned off the gas and removed the pan. “What’s wrong angel?” Franks words whipped around my heart almost holding it together. “Nothing. I was just worried about you.” There was silence as I finished making my sandwich. I turned away from the counter to see Frank standing before me holding a bunch of roses with a pleading look on this face.

My heart melted. “Aww, Frank.” Putting my sandwich, on its plate onto table I threw my arms around him, nuzzling my nose into his scorpion tattoo. “Don’t worry about me, Kat. I’m here to protect you. I can protect both of us.” I squeezed him tighter, appreciating the moment before pulling back to take the flowers from him. I began to scour the cupboards for a vase, luckily there was the crystal vase my Grandmother gave us just before she died. I sighed as I took it out but tried to remember the good times instead. I filled it with water and placed in the roses before placing it in the center of the table and sitting down to eat my sandwich.

Frank grabbed an apple and sat down to join me. “so.” I said, swallowing a bite of my sandwich. “I didn’t know you had any gigs planned?” Frank thought for a moment, chewing on his lip ring and finally answered me. “Well, it’s not planned as such we just want to do one and we needed to discuss how we could get a gig and where it was gonna be. There’s nothing planned for definite yet.” With that he smirked and took a bite of his apple. After a while of eating in silence, I got up to wash my empty plate. Frank followed swiftly and gripped his arms around my waist as I loaded the dish washer.

He nibbled and pulled gently at the edge of my gauged ear making me giggle. “So, what do you wanna do tonight, angel?” I giggled as I pulled his hands off my body which were starting to wonder up my tee shirt. “It’s school tomorrow and after sleeping in the hall I think we both should have an early night.” Frank agreed and took my hand, leading me out of the kitchen. We went upstairs and cuddled for a while, eventually I fell asleep in his arms as his fingers lightly ran down my arm. “Good night, angel.” He kissed my forehead gently and my eyes fluttered closed.

The morning soon came around and I woke up feeling refreshed and happy to be by Frank’s side once again. I sat up and groaned, stretching my arms out. “hey, watch it” I looked down beside me to see Frank, guessing I’d almost hit him in the face I giggled before planting a kiss on his cheek. “Good morning, Frank.” I said through a smile. He smiled back and closed his eyes again. I got up and pulled my uniform out of the wardrobe, slipping my shirt on and buttoning it up I turned to look at Frank again, he’d fallen back to sleep.

“Aren’t you getting up?” I tilted my head, puzzled. Frank slowly turned over and groaned. “The accident, remember? I’m on recovery leave a month. It’s only been 2 weeks.” He put his hand up and rubbed over the stitch on his forehead. “well then, if you’re not going, neither am I. “ I said, throwing off my shirt and diving back into bed. Frank giggled and put his arms around me once again.

Franks POV

We got up later that day and same as usual spent it cuddling and procrastinating. It annoyed me so much that I had to keep the Fall rock festival gig a secret from her, but I knew she’d love it all the more if she didn’t know. Kat told me of how she’s going with Brie to watch Andy perform, I had no idea Andy was in a band. I wonder what his music is like. Kat told me how he’s the lead singer of ‘Black Veil Brides’ can’t say I’ve heard of them but maybe we could hook up sometimes, Me on guitar and Andy on vocals. I don’t really sing, I guess I could if I wanted to but I prefer to scream and play my guitar.

The week passed awfully quick. Kat stayed at home with me Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday she took me to Gerard’s to pick up some clothes and return Mikey’s jacket. Wednesday afternoon she went back to school and continued to attend for the rest of the week. Saturday was soon upon us. The festival is tonight.

I called Gee at lunch and arranged to start to set up around 4:30pm, half an hour before we were due to perform. “Why do you look so happy?” Kat questioned as I walked into the kitchen. I tried to think of an excuse but I couldn’t. “Ah, nothing. You just look so cute today!” Kat smiled over her cup of tea. Yes! I’d gotten away with it. I sat down and joined her at the table, blowing the steam off my tea as gazed across the table to her.

“Brie is coming to pick me up in a few hours. What are you gonna be doing tonight?” I took a sip of my tea and told her the truth. “Oh I’m gonna go hang with Gee.” Kat smiled at me again before getting up from the chair. “Okay, I’m gonna go get ready now.” I listened as her petite footsteps danced up the stair case. Not long now, the anticipation was killing me.

Around an hour later Kat came back down stairs, I was in the living room now, reading a magazine since it was the only thing to do really. “what do you think?” she said, spinning around in front of me, showing off her outfit. She was wearing my old Pencey Prep tee shirt I'd let her cut up, high waisted Red skinny jeans and a pair of checked vans. “You look gorgeous, angel” I admitted, standing from the couch and kissing her passionately. “You always look gorgeous.”
We stood hugging for a few moments before I heard a car horn sounding from outside the front of the house. “That must be Brie. See you later Frank.” She kissed me on the cheek and flounced out of the house. I immediately got my phone out and called Gerard.

“She’s gone, come pick me up.”

“Okay, I’ll be over in 5 minutes.”

I giggled to myself as I hung up. I really couldn’t wait for us to play for her but our first gig, I’m so nervous.
