In The Dark, I See You
Chapter 8: Attack
Gerard P.O.V.
I put on my black shirt that is now has a painted neon blue line. I still couldn't get off my mind on what Lindsey told me. And the fact she was willing to take me to the creek. I guess she really does care about me.
I went to the kitchen to see if there was anything to eat. I look through my fridge and only found old beer cans, orange juice, lime, an apple, a couple of eggs, and milk. I bet the milk has gone bad already. I sighed. I really wasn't hungry.
As I made my way to the couch, I hear my phone ring. I quickly go to my room and pick up my phone. It was Lindsey.
"Hey Lindsey." I said.
"G-Gerard, p-please come quickly!" She stuttered.
"What's going on?" I asked alarmed.
"I-I'm h-having an attack," Lindsey said.
"Okay, where are you," I asked getting my shoes on.
"M-my apartment." She said.
"I'll be there." I said and ran out.
"Don't hang up, Lindsey," I said running down the street.
"I w-won't," Lindsey said.
"What kind of attack are you having?" I asked.
"J-Jennifer calls it a p-panic attack," Lindsey said.
"Okay. Just breathe in and breathe out. I'll be there." I said. I was running out of breath. I'm not in shape.
"A-are you running?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said breathless. "Don't worry I'm almost there."
"O-okay," Lindsey said.
I kept running. I don't care if I'm running out of breath, I'm going to help Lindsey.
Keep running. I said to myself.
From my apartment to Lindsey's was about five miles. In about three miles, there was a man riding a bike.
"Excuse me sir. Let me borrow your bike." I said to the man.
"Why for?" He asked stopping.
I took a deep breath. "My, uh, girlfriend is having a panic attack and I need to be with her right now." I said. I hope Lindsey didn't hear that over the phone.
"Oh, yeah, I'll let you borrow it." He said getting off. He handed me the bike and I rode off. The bike was a cruiser. For the rest of the miles, I rode with the bike.
----------------------
"Lindsey, open the door," I said knocking on the door. She wouldn't open it up.
"G-get the key. I-it's next to t-that plant." Lindsey said.
I dug around the dirt and looked for a key. I found the silver key buried under the dirt and next to the plant. I brush the dirt off and unlocked the door.
"Lindsey, where are you?" I asked.
"In m-my room," Lindsey said through the phone.
I closed the door and ran to her room. Lindsey was sitting on her bed, she was shaking violently. Tears running down her face.
"Lindsey." I said and ran to her. "Calm down. Breathe in and breathe out. Focus on breathing."
She nods. I pull Lindsey for a hug. She rests her head on my shoulder. She was still shaking. "Just breathe." I cooed in her ear.
"Do you take any meds," I asked. She nodded. "Is it for the attacks?"
"Y-yeah." Lindsey said.
"Where are they?"
"T-that's the thing. They're b-back at J-Jennifer's- I mean K-Kitty's place," Lindsey said.
"Did you call her?" I asked.
"I did. Then I-I called Jimmy, t-then Steve b-but no one answered. S-so I called you." Lindsey said.
"Oh." I mumbled. "So what do the medicine do to you when you take it?"
"T-they put me to sleep," Lindsey said.
"And are you calm by then?" I asked.
"Yeah. B-but that's b-because the medicine does s-something to me while I'm s-sleeping," Lindsey said.
"Alright. How about I sing you to sleep? While you're sleeping, I'll call Kitty," I said.
"O-okay." Lindsey said.
I lay her down on the bed. "What song are you going to sing to me?" She asked.
"Well I'm just going to wing it. See what comes up." I said. Really, I don't know a single lullaby.
"So give me all you've got,
I can take it
We walked alone in your city lights
Did you make it?
We lit the fire and it's burning bright
Did you take it?
Kissed all the boys in your city lights
Did you make it?
Left all the stars in your city nights
Can you fake it?
I lost my way in your city lights
Clutching me,
We stole the fire
And it's burning bright
So give me all you've got,
I can take it
We walked around in your city lights
'Cause it makes me who I am
We lit the fire
And it's burning bright
Not ashamed of what I am
I took the pills
For these empty nights
'Cause it makes me who I am"
I didn't know where that came from. Like really, I just winged it! But, somehow, it worked. Lindsey was fast asleep. She looked peaceful.
I quickly grabbed her phone and dial Kitty. She doesn't pick up after I call her five times.
"Hey Lindsey. You called?" Kitty said. I left Lindsey's room and into the mini hallway.
"Uh, this is Gerard. Listen, Lindsey left her medicine at your place. She needs them, now," I said.
"Did she have her attack!" Kitty said.
"Yeah. She's asleep right now," I said.
"Good. I'll be there in like five minutes. Thanks Gerard." Kitty said.
-----------
I heard a knock on the door. It must be Kitty.
"Here's the medicine. Wake her up gently, give her a glass of water. Not juice or anything like that, just water. She'll go back to sleep. Since she took it around one, she'll wake up around five PM. Be with her at all times, even when Lindsey's asleep." Kitty said.
"Okay, I will. Hey Kitty," I said.
"Yeah?"
"Why did she get this attack?" I asked.
She sighs. "She doesn't know this, so don't tell her! In one of our shows, she hit her head hard backstage. She was convince she was fine, she played that show and hit her head again. We took her to the hospital after the show. On the way there, she passes out.
"The doctor said -since she hit her head really hard and two times- that she was going to be under watch by a nurse. We said it was alright.
"When she woke up that same night, she didn't remember anything that day, which was okay. They let her out of the hospital but was still being watched by the nurse.
"After a week being watched by the nurse, the nurse thought she was fine, but when she was packing up, Lindsey started to shake so badly. She then started to stop breathing and started to say things so quickly.
"The nurse panic, she didn't know what to do with Lindsey, quickly we took her back to the hospital. The doctor calls it a panic attack. He said that the medicine Lindsey has was made for people who have the so called 'panic attack'.
"At first, it happened once a week. As time went, once a month. I was worried about her this summer because she hasn't gotten the attack. Now that I wasn't available, she had it.
"I'm glad she called you. Thank you for taking care of Lindsey," Kitty said.
"No problem."
"See you later, bye," Kitty said and left.
I went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, then I read how many she's suppose to take. Two. I went back to the room. I walked up to sleeping Lindsey and gently shook her. "Lindsey," I whispered.
"Huh?" Lindsey mumbled sitting up.
I handed her the pills and the glass of water. "Will I be okay?" She mumbled as she lay back down.
I gave a small smile. "You'll be alright." She smiled. She then closed her eyes and soon was asleep. I kissed her forehead.
